Why Noam, why?

“I don’t usually admire Sarah Palin,” Chomsky said, “but when she was making fun of this ‘hopey changey stuff,’ she was right, there was nothing there.” Noam Chomsky

God do I hate it when people start giving Sarah Palin legitimacy.

There are so many other ways to voice your displeasure with the President other than evoking a quote from the Wasilla Wendigo.

Besides I personally believe that if the Republicans had not gathered on the NIGHT OF OBAMA'S INAUGURATION, and decide to sabotage every single policy they he put forth, that we might very well have seen and incredibly hopeful change in this county. There was no way that Obama could institute change all by himself, though he did a pretty damn good job without their support.

As for hope, well I have rarely been more hopeful than I have been since Obama has been in office. Perhaps those who thought he would walk on water and then turn it into wine were disappointed but not I.

I am usually singing the same tune as Chomsky, but this time he definitely hit a sour note and in my opinion committed an unpardonable sin.

"See? I told you so!"
And that is giving THIS lunatic any credibility whatsoever.

That's ok, we have our bad days and he can be wrong once in a while, beside Wasilla Wendigo has no idea who he is anyway.

What a candidate knows and promises and what the reality of being president is are WAY THE FUCK apart.
Any idiot who thought the USA could possibly be cleaned out of all the crap the GOP admins shit down it's neck in four or even sixteen years, is too stupid to live let alone comment or be thought as a some elder progressive statesmen.

Progessives are, at times, their worst enemies. In Obama's first term, liberal minded people bashed his efforts right along with the right (albeit often for different reasons). Now you have them praising Palin?! First it was "death panels" and now "hope and change". Don't they realize that any crumb they give to this woman and her supporters will miraculously turn into a three layer cake?

I still believe in Hope and Change and I believe that the President has done a lot to further that cause. However, when you have a Congress that blocks every effort, achieving much of anything is impossible. In many cases, both the left and the right of the political spectrum in the US have acted like spoiled children. When they don't get absolutely everything they want they stamp their feet and threaten to take their marbles home.

Noam Chomsky and the rest of the far left are part of the problem, just as the far right is the the much larger part of the problem. Chomsky must have put his head in the sand along about January 2009. The reason we have not progressed more than we have is because of GOP obstructionism, pure and simple. And, people like Noam Chomsky who will not come out and address the seditious obstructionism in Congress and the Koch control of too many states are aiding and abetting them.

Besides, the "hopey-changey" thing that Sarah Palin has used so frequently was a misrepresentation of every word that President Obama said during the 2008 campaign and beyond. If Noam Chomsky wants to be Sarah's best buddy, fine. She can have him. I don't think he's done much for real intellectual or political discourse in this country anyway.

I think that Noam is like many on the Dreamer Fringe of the left: expecting that the skies would part on Obama's Inauguration Day and all the world's problems would be solved. Instead, they can't accept reality that the president is doing the best job he can in spite of tremendous opposition from the right.

When I was a teenager, I thought that JFK would perform the same miracle when he was elected. I became very disappointed that he didn't change the world overnight. I was a teenager. Since then, I have learned a lot about how government works and have acquired patience and insight. Usually when people mature, they gain this insight. Some on the left need to calm down.

Aw, come on, Gryphen, cheer up. Go over to Sarah's Facebook and get a good laugh. It's Sarah and Duck Dynasty. And, she is echoing Bristol's post from yesterday about the value of hard work. It's a good gig that Bristol has. She trademarked her name, so she is a business entity. Someone writes a post for her blog, and then Sarah mentions it on her Facebook, as if.....it's just like the days when Sarah wrote letters to the editor praising herself, using different names like Lou Sarah and Louise Heath. It's an echo chamber, and something is going on if Palin needs publicity and attention that badly. Donations must be down, and we don't see much of her on Fox. Thank goodness Greta filmed Sarah's arrival to greet wounded warriors or we might forget what Sarah looked like.

As for Bristol's four year job at a dermatologist's office, with time off for TV shows, I would like to know more that. Why would Bristol invest in a big beautiful house on the shores of the lake in order to drive into Anchorage every day, for years? I don't believe it for a second. No doctor's office can answer the question, "Does Bristol Palin work for you?" because of HIPPA, so that's a safe claim. Bristol wouldn't swap jobs with Melissa, and most doctors would have allowed Melissa to come into their waiting room, just for the publicity and good will. I would like to suggest that someone keep an eye on Bristol's place for just one week to see what time she leaves in the morning and returns at night, Monday through Friday. And, who looks after Tripp while Bristol is at work?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Anonymous8:09 AM

Do the Doctor's patients sign a "confidentiality agreement" that they will not reveal that Bristol works for their dermatologist? Is she hidden away in a remote office where is manages whatever while wearing a surgical mask so no one will recognize her?

Has anyone ever said Bristol was a great barista and made a wonderful cappuccino or latte. Or that she couldn't pull a decent espresso shot? Most coffee places have their regular customers and wouldn't someone say she fixed their caffeine at such and such Brew Shop?

Why is there a code of silence about the Palins?

At the very least, they could have shown Melissa going to work at the Dermatologists office, blanked out the name of the clinic, and only shown her arriving or going in the door. I truly doubt Bristol has a full time job at the Dermatologists. I'm married to a Dr., and know that having steady employees who show up to work every single day is a MUST. You can't run an office with staff that doesn't come to work. I don't know one Dr. who would keep an employee who asked for months off at a time. Bristol has been away multiple times from her "job" for months at a time times. No professional who runs a business would keep someone on who required so much time off. Other employees would want the same treatment. Can you imagine trying to run a medical office with employees who were always telling you they needed time off for personal reasons? Any regular person would be let go. Is the Dermatologist that Bristol claims to work for a family friend who is willing to cover for Bristol and say she works there?

Must be a Palin "friend" who'll lie to the public and present false witness in order to provide a beard for Bristol.

The IRS would know whether Bristol ever received a regular paycheck, and what kind of income she's claimed over these years.

It would take a day's worth of reporting for a loyal IMer to go to all the Anchorage dermatologists' offices and ask if they could speak with Mr. Palin. If she's not available, when will she be?
If they won't divulge the names of their employees, then it would take a week of sitting in the waiting rooms of these dermotologists, to see when Bristol arrived for work.

If, in the course of a week, there was no Bristol, she'd have to explain what it was that kept her out of work for a week.

We seem to be forgetting another huge reason, apart from obsructionism, as to why change has not occurred with scope and rapidity we would have liked: the Great Recession. Bush-Cheney and the big banks left our nation on the verge of collapse. That Obama has been able too not only pull us back from the edge of the cliff but has also has helped usher in years of steady job growth is miraculous, considering the mess Bush-Cheney left us in before Obama took office.

If the GOP would have allowed variouis jobs bills, including those crucial infrastructure bills, we would be well beyond where we are now. But the GOP could not let that happen, nor would they allow reasonable gun control regulations, et cetera. But the economy was the biggest obstacle and President Obama hasmade a positive difference.

So Norm can go suck an egg in the corner, and a nurse can wipe his chin if he dribbles. He is dribbbling nonsense if he thinks Obama did not give us hope and help change the mess Bush-Cheney left. I spent eight years dismayed by Bush-Cheney. President Obama has indeed helped my outlook as he has helped the country at large.

There was no way that Obama could institute change all by himself, though he did a pretty damn good job without their support."

I am an old Liberal. The FDR & RFK variety. What I wouldn't give to see a majority of Democrats like them. With few exceptions we don't have Dems like that anymore.

We can't expect the President to work miracles when there are multitudes of obstacles in his way. I don't doubt that many of those obstacles are and will continue to be unknown to us - and even unknown to Obama, himself.

Remember before the Bush* administration left office, Dick Cheney converted appointed people in various agencies and departments into permanent Federal employees. This way these partisan people could not be replaced with Obama's choices; and would also be left in place to do .... obstruct? sabotage? report back to Cheney or his ilk?

I stopped paying attention to Chomsky years ago. I don't remember why, but whatever it was it deeply disturbed me. I'm a forgiving soul, so whatever he said must have been pretty bad.

When I was a girl, I said something about LBJ right after JFK died. My dad taught me that whatever negative feelings I may have about LBJ, never, ever say them in mixed company. You never give your enemies ammunition that they can use against your side. You can voice concerns on an issue, but you never disrespect the man/woman.

    Yeah, really!

Dissecting his quote here.... it says, "I don't usually admire Sarah Palin, but when she was making fun of this 'hopey changey stuff,' she was right, there was nothing there."

OK, so Mr. C. says he doesn't usually ADMIRE SP, but when she making fun of the hopey-changey stuff, does this mean he now admires her? So, it appears he likes women who have no substance but can only do one thing and that is make fun of their opponents? Hasn't he seen there is nothing there about her now?

From my perspective, hope and change is always something people strive for. When people can know they'll be able to afford treatment at a hospital for their sickness, disease and injuries and them and their families, because they've been offered affordable health care, then that his a hopeful thing. When families with special needs children can now be eligible for health care regardless of their child's condition, that's a hopeful thing.

When a President cares enough for the forgotten people who had no way out and now can at least put their attention on education and affordable homes, through an economy that has been improving, that's a hopeful thing. Change isn't something that pops out of the air, it takes courage and determination, even when carnival barkers accuse and snort and hiss at the one who carries the banner of change.

Anyone who admires a woman who would sneer and mock a working administration who has clearly made many improvements for change, needs to admit they just admire what's under those hooker clothes.

If anyone really cares about hope and change, they work towards that goal, they don't throw rocks at those who are trying.

Sarah doesn't want to find the families who've been blessed with the hope and change campaign/effort of the Obama Administration, because she's too afraid and lazy to find out for herself. She wouldn't go to that hospital ward and ask the patients who are receiving life-saving treatment if they are happy with the new ACA. I think she's so afraid, because she knows she'd hear hope in their voices. Sarah doesn't want to hear of any hope in anyone's voice. She would rather the whole world go to hell in a handbasket so she could parrot, "I was right, I was right, I was right". The dark soul of Sarah has no joy, but a dark hatred toward the light.

Neither she nor her mother seem to understand that hundreds of millions of Americans, and billions of people around the world, work long, hard hours in order to feed their families and put a roof over their heads. The Palins are nothing special.

Bristol's experiences are the same as just about any other First World teenager, working hourly jobs to earn extra money -- for fancy jeans, or, in my case, to pay for my college tuition.
Take the work life of a neurosurgeon, a social worker, a bus driver, a mailman, a high school teacher, a janitor, a car mechanic, a nurse: all of them work extremely hard, plus have had some sort of training to qualify them for their jobs. Working as a barrista is great when you're a teen. Getting an education and training is what you should work toward, Bristol, to make a real impact with your hard work.

Your father, though seemingly fit, quit his BP job and no longer fishes his spot on Bristol Bay. Your sister went to "Hair School" but hasn't opened up a shop (her parents could set one up for her, with a loan). You've demonstrated your total lack of work ethic on tv, in various venues, most especially as a lazy, unimaginative, cross and clueless mother -- the most important job you'll ever have.

So -- let's not hear about your worth ethic. Talk to real people who really work. You'll be surprised.

"Unlawfully" implies that criminal penalties will be handed out. And such penalties are only meaningful when applied to individuals. It's completely pointless to hold "the NSA" accountable if the individuals who made the decision to authorize or commit unlawful acts face no penalty.

You may want to consider that Snowden and Manning were very low level people who were able to get incredible information out of the sloppy security system NSA runs. If they can get this stuff, then what can other unscrupulous people working with the Agency get on you?

How deep into your life and home and family can someone affiliated with the system go? Say this person might be a bit perverted or ambitious or say for instance you are dating a former girlfriend of his. What if you hold a position in a job that a friend of his wants and they need to get you fired and out of the way for his freind to get that job.

The scenarios of this system are endless. You should read The Gulag Archipelago by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn. It all started the same way, with National Security as the main concern in Russia at that time.

You think it will be different because you don't know the human mind and how it works. It is fear that led us to this place. It is fear that will take it further.

You use the word "Unlawfully" now. People make things unlawful as they see fit. The NSA may someday make it "Unlawful" for you to not have a camera in your living room so they can monitor you. If you've nothing to hide, then you have nothing to worry about; so its a good law right?

The NSA is necessary but it is running amock. It needs a leash and we need strong people to step up to the task.

I wrote the same thing before I bothered to scroll down and read the public replies. You got it. Someone ordered that action. Some craven types did the deed. The story suggests it happened in some mysterious way that was "discovered" years later.

Is anyone surprised? Orwell and Huxley warned us ...

It is a fundamental tryptic of the counter-intelligence community to abide three basic rules: Admit nothing, deny everything, make counter-accusations.

If you don't have free speech you have to be afraid, you lack a vital part of what it is to be a human being. Your own growth as a person will in time be constricted, because we come to know ourselves by our thoughts. Broad and intrusive surveillance will, definitively, put government in charge. "The people we elect are not your bosses, they are responsible to us." They must answer to us. But if they increasingly control our privacy, "suddenly they're in charge if they know what you're thinking." That kind of power is ultimate. Why would we just give away that power to be used over us?

At Nuremberg, the Nazis’ defense was that they were following orders. But they were held to the moral imperative of conscience. They knew what they were doing was wrong and not even orders made it right. This is a core tenet of American liberty, that despite any mandate to the contrary, moral code and law must be upheld and defended even from those who write and enforce the laws. The dawning of Stalinism in America?

Yes and from the comments to the above:

Wow. that was a mature response. Not.

The commenter pretty muchs sums it up for me, though. I would never vote for Nader because I do believe he’s an insane egomaniac. However, that negates none of the truth of what the commenter wrote. The Dems have licked Bush’s ass for seven years, enabling him almost every step of the way. They are simply one arm of the Corporate Government, put out there so that we Libs can pretend we have someone on “our” side. Please. Fuck them.

The fuck of it is, the commenter’s basically right. But I’ve learned that being right is not always good enough, and doing the wrong thing for the right reason (”taking a stand on principle”) is really only morally satisfying if it doesn’t mean the difference between life and death for people who had no choices at all. You’re not just voting for you–you’re voting for all the folks McCain may end up getting killed. It’s worth asking yourself if they’d prefer you be a bit pragmatic or if they’re delighted you’re sticking by your principles.

I say this as a longtime Nader fan and defender though not voter. I’ve got several of his books, autographed in a couple cases. But I don’t believe anything Nader is doing will accomplish goals that I share with him, so I don’t vote for him.
