Maine politician who posted a picture of the President labeled with "shoot the ni**er" quits.

Courtesy of Portland Press Herald:

The Sabattus man who posted a Facebook message calling for President Obama to be shot and referring to him with a racial slur stepped down from three town committees Thursday rather than face removal by the town's selectmen.

The selectmen were scheduled to meet Thursday night to consider removing David Marsters from the committees, but Marsters emailed his resignations Thursday morning .

"I deeply regret what I posted and do apologize for my actions," he said in the email.

Although he resigned from the committees, Marsters said he plans to continue his campaign for election as a selectman this fall.

After town officials canceled Thursday's meeting, Town Manager Andrew Gilmore issued a statement thanking Marsters for "sparing the town and community further spectacle."

Marsters' post drew widespread attention to the small town outside Lewiston, and was expected to draw angry residents to the meeting Thursday. The chairman of the selectmen had asked the police chief to attend to make sure the meeting did not get out of hand.

Yeah I think this guy is done.

Don't you?

  1. I think he’s done. Will he change? No, but he’s been shouted down. That works as well.

For stepping down. Gilmore was correct in his wording.

They should vote on a public condemnation of racism at next regular meeting though.

  3. Time will tell. This is a small town and everyone probably knows this fool and what he stands for or against. And they still voted him in! Don't be surprised if he wins!

  4. It seems the meeting was not because of what he said - but because of the notoriety he brought to the town. Hopefully that will keep enough folks upset with him to avoid him being elected.

As for the apology - only because he was caught - and it ruined his plans for the immediate future.

At least it wasn't a non-apology conservatives are so good at.

Yes, that was a non-apology. He "deeply regrets" his actions - not what he said about the President, nor how he said it. What he regrets is that his actions caused him to loose his job. THAT is what he is regretting now!

His guy is the face for the Tea Party. Old, White and Bitter. The T's are fighting because they do NOT want to become a minority in the US.

It's inevitable that they are a minority. They just want to be the oligarcic minority in charge, and screw democracy.

Thank goodness for the 'old' part. They are slowly but steadily dying off and very few of the the younger generation are replacing them.

Someday they will be nothing but a sad, embarrassing footnote in the history books.

    3. Google John Birch Society and you might make the assumption that the JBS simply morphed into The Tea Party. Same extreme ideas.

    OT:
Maybe this makes me a partisan hack, but...the shear intensity of Rand Paul's opposition to the Syrian strike makes me think that it's probably the right thing to do.

MY knee-jerk reaction to this is is that he should be deported - maybe parachuted into Iran.

  10. You know, I wish someone who really knows the ins and outs of ObamaCare would sit down with his wife and him and go through how the new law will affect them, personally. Then, maybe, he'd change his tune.

I keep saying that the Obama administration did a lousy job in talking about ObamaCare from the very beginning. I have read that when RomneyCare was passed in Massachusetts that there was an incredible media campaign to explain the details of the plan. Government officials blanketed local TV and radio. This is what the Obama administration should have done, from the git go.
Instead they allowed the Repbulicans/TeaBaggers to set the agenda. Bad, bad planning on our side.

For an administration that ran two winning presidential campaigns, they dropped the ball on ACA.

    2. Problem is that in the campaign, they have a smaller group and they control everything, including what gets disseminated, when and how.

Once, elected, they're stuck with the way things are run in the gov't as far as how messages are sent out; it takes a long time to change that.

They've been putting out lots of info about the ACA over the years, but it's not getting to the people who ignore it because of where it's posted. Sad.

This racist stuff against our POTUS is really getting old. Time to do something to these like folks! We on the one side are being way too nice!

7:38 President Clinton is going to be explaining Obamacare to these folks IF they'll listen. President Obama has asked him to do so.

I think this will be a great setup for Hillary Clinton to win the next presidency. Remember, when her husband was POTUS she tried to work on the health insurance issue and had no success.

This time it is different due to it already being law and having the approval of Congress.

I see 8 more years of the Dems in the White House and I couldn't be happier!!

Another story where justice is served. These guys feel so safe in their domain, where they can say whatever they want and express their bigotry and racism on their sleeve, because they believe they have community back-up. But, they're finally seeing that they're not in the majority anymore. These guys are in denial, they can't accept that the world is changing and the nation's attitudes are changing, for the better.

Crazy man, do you think the 97.4% white residents want to be referred to as "ni@@rs" or even used that word? Don't think so.

Nothing like the Feds knocking on one's door to cause them to change their tune, but he's not done yet, not by any stretch. The liar's not sorry for any of it. He's planning to run again next fall.

You know, like Bristol and Levi "planned on getting married at a later date" and "The couple will have their wedding when the less than idill weather clears up and those in the lower 48 can attend"
