“Does anybody remember Charlie Sheen, when he was kind of going crazy last year. And he was going around, jumping around saying ‘Winning, winning, we’re winning,’” Paul told the crowd, referring to Sheen’s very public breakdown back in early 2011. “Well I kind of feel like that, I think we are winning.” Just in case any was getting the wrong idea, he added, “And I’m not on any drugs.”
Seriously?
Okay let's all remember back to when Sheen was fired from the highest rated sitcom on network television after appearing on the Alex Jones show and raged incoherently about the producers, culminating with this line about show creator Chuck Lorre:
“Clearly, I have defeated earthworm [show creator Chuck Lorre] with my words – imagine what I would have done with my fire breathing fists.”
Sheen then went on a very public binge of self destruction, which included surrounding himself with a bevy of porn stars (Who he called "Goddesses."), calling himself a "Warlock," and claiming that "Tiger Blood" ran through his veins.
After that he made a truly horrendous, self indulgent movie that nobody bothered to see, before returning to television to make a craptastic sitcom now showing on the FX channel, that recently lost one of its only well known co-stars, Selma Blair, after she was fired for complaining that Sheen has a terrible work ethic.
So is the comparison of the current Republican party to Charlie Sheen fair?
No. At least not to Charlie Sheen it isn't.
After all he is just a somewhat talented runaway train of self destruction. On the other hand the Republican party is....well they're the Republican party, and NOTHING is as bad as they are these days!
“Does anybody remember the Tea Partization of the Republican Party, when it was kind of going crazy last year. And we were going around, jumping around saying ‘Winning, winning, we’re winning,’” Referring to the Party’s very public breakdown starting in 2008. “Well I kind of feel like that, I think we are winning.” - Fixed
ReplyDeleteI'm seeing lots of Facebook postings, blaming "congress" and even the President for what is happening now.
ReplyDeleteHow is it that Republicans get out of jail free, all the time?
To blame "congress" for something, when its no secret that it is SOLELY the nutfringe right voting to starve children and veterans, and to ruin the nation's economy, is just as criminal, as the members of the House doing that ugly deed.
The Democrats all voted with honor!
Gryph, you gave Paul the perfect smack down to his idiotic remark. What's left of the GOP is in full self destruct mode.
ReplyDeleteRand Paul, the little runt w/the floppy mop, is NOT winning and nor is the Republican party. I expect to see many Republicans across the nation demoted in the next election cycle!
ReplyDeleteAt least Charlie Sheen has talent and has made a comeback minus the drugs. HE has something to brag about!!
Remember, the Republicans always state they are winning and who won as President for a second term? Yep, President Obama! And, they have had a horrid time accepting it - still to this day!
ReplyDeleteThey are NOT winners - they are obstructionists and failures!
Hillary Clinton would beat the shit out of the little runt! He'd be nasty as hell and she'd be spectacular! (She's far, far more experienced in government than he ever thought of being!) Would love seeing her clean his clock in a debate!
o/t -- Stephen Colbert reported that Michelle Obama is encouraging Americans to drink more water.
ReplyDeleteWaiting for Sarah Palin's totally, predictably sarcastic comeback in 3,2, 1 ---
Also, Rand Paul's father Ron now suggests that more women should stop working so they can homeschool their children. This is the end-product of the regressive misogynistic tea party -- take away the freedom that a separate income gives to a woman, who then can take charge of her own life if she needs to. Plus, it adds fuel to their argument to defund public education and public health.
With only one income per family, it also establishes and maintains a permanent underclass, who cannot afford more than the essentials -- while the GOP wants to remove food assistance, unemployment pay and keep a substandard minimum wage.
Of course, taking women out of the workforce will reduce consumer demand and thus ruin the economy. But their first and most important goal is to subjugate and control women.
The GOP still has room to fall farther. Right now they just need more Sarah, Cruz and Paul, and a little more Tiger Blood. Maybe throw in a few hookers. Todd? You been hanging out with prostitution rings again? (***Crickets***)
ReplyDeleteI intend to sit in my lawn chair on this side of the fence *outside* the institution and watch these crazies self-immolate. I will be sipping on my Big Gulp Coke and eating my large bowl of popcorn with Tabasco and Parmesan cheese on it.
There's even a couple of former RINOs I'll piss on after the flames die down. But the shit-flinging Palin and her crew of monkeys will just have to smolder. That's just their way of winning--- flaming out before the Barbeque even gets started.
I wonder which of the Fox personalities will get the honors of showing Sarah doing the perp walk? Megyn Kelly? Shep Smith? Lizzy Hasslebeck? That 10-second clip will be must-see TV!
Thanks for the laughs, Sarah. See you in court. Soon.
I haven't been much of a fan of Charlie Sheen for the past 20+ years, but he had a good run in the late 80's where he played a few good parts (IMO) in movies that I enjoyed like Platoon, Major League, Wall Street, and Eight Men Out. Sheen played opposite Michael Douglass in Wall Street, back during (appropriately) Reagan's 2nd term (IIRC).
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of which, it's no surprise that the acceleration of the gap in real earnings growth took off right when Reagan came into office, and the middle class has actually gone backwards ever since, while the richest enjoyed an ever-increasing slice of the earnings pie through LBO's, Tax Code "Enhancements", and other corporate entitlements (like incentives to offshore mfg and service-sector jobs)--- stuff that no one seems to remember when analyzing "How we got where we are" as a country, with a structurally weakened economy and a more volatile environment politically--- domestically and throughout the world. The Teabaggers could learn a little lesson from that old movie that might give them a clue who they're working for today, if they weren't so obstinate in fighting for their god-given right to be ignorant while being so goddam proud of it.
"Greed is Good."--- Gordon Gekko might have said it first, but the Koch Brothers have been living with that as their mantra all their lives. Willing patsies and useful idiots, Teabaggers all. But those who won't listen to the truth will either have to learn the hard way eventually, or they will simply add to their own struggle until the day they finally die, still bitter to the end and still ignorant of the fact that they wasted their time and energy chasing bogeymen who didn't even exist, all the while enabling the plutocrats to rob them and everyone else outside the .001% in this country. I'm not giving up on speaking out, just because I live a comfortable life financially and have helped my kids through college and graduate schools in order to live the lives they choose to live. But I will say this: if I ever heard one of my kids speak the kind of nonsense towards any of their fellow Americans that I've heard from the bigots, racists and idiots in general from the fringes of either end of the political spectrum, I'd consider myself a failure as a parent as well as a human being. And they've been taught that just because "they have theirs", that's not the end of their "personal responsibility". I won't say that would never happen, but I should say that I am also fortunate that they make me proud of how they live their lives in taking care of their families, and teaching their own kids to be quick to help someone else out when they can. If we all did that everyday instead of ignoring the plight of others or sometimes even being pleased with ourselves as compared to the "others", we could move this country forward. That's not a progressive or liberal philosophy any more than a conservative or libertarian ideology, but call it what you want. It's just common sense and love for our fellow human beings. It should be the common value that brings us together, regardless of personal politics.
Rant over. Sorry no advance warning, but it happens sometimes.
I remember seeing Michael Douglas interviewed after that movie, and how he was dumbfounded over how so many people thought he was supposed to be the HERO of the story.
DeleteHe said his character went to JAIL, for crissakes...how dumb do you have to BE to not realize that Gekko was a rotten, twisted sociopath?
That so many idolize the creep, and want to be LIKE him, is a truly sad picture of American society.
The delusional quoting the delusional......sounds about right.....
ReplyDeleteHow can anyone see that ad and not think of all the invasive medical procedures the GOP/teabaggers are trying to force on everyone?
ReplyDeleteI just looked at that photo again..was the (00) there from CNN? Because it reads "Road to 16(00), which is an excellent description of where Rand Paul and Cruz would take this nation.
