As vote is tallied to keep the government open, House stenographer loses it and starts yelling about Freemasons and God.

Courtesy of ABC News:

A House stenographer was pulled out of the House chamber while shouting into the microphone during Wednesday’s vote on a compromise bill to end the government shutdown and raise the debt limit.

The woman was Dianne Reidy, an official reporter with the Office of the Clerk, two sources told ABC News. She was heard shouting “the House is divided,” according to one source.

She was pulled off the rostrum by chamber security staff.

“He will not be mocked,” the woman said, according to an audio recording of the incident posted online by Public Radio International reporter Todd Zwillich. “This is not one nation under God. It never was.”

“The greatest deception here is this is not one nation under god! It never was. Had it been, it would not have been! The Constitution would not have been written by Freemasons!” she added.

The incident caused a moment of chaos in the chamber as the presiding member, Rep. Ileana Ros Lehtinen, R-Fla., repeatedly banged the gavel, trying to restore order.

Now you might think that this was a clearly unhinged woman who simply snapped under the incredible pressure that was present last night. But according to Fox and Friends, you would be wrong. Pagan!

“That is Diane Reidy,” Brian Kilmeade reported, “who went to the Speaker’s chair, as you saw and saying praise to God, Jesus Christ.”

“She went on to say something in reference to Freemasons, and also seemed to say something about a house being divided,” he continued.

“This minister just emailed,” Steve Doocy interrupted.

“It was not a mental episode,” he said, reading from the email. “What she was doing was known as an exercise of the gifts of the spirit where she was — she had brought a warning and a message from God regarding the activity, he felt, there in the House.”

“Amazingly, this religious and obviously a sweet lady gets fed up and speaks her mind, something we all have tried to do,” Doocy added while reading from another email. “She brings up our dear lord and she gets a mental evaluation? I think it should be the other way around.”

“Who knows?” Elisabeth Hasselbeck asked. “Maybe she just saw something that didn’t seem right and mounting frustrations and tensions brought it out of her.”

That's right folks. the woman was simply relaying a message from God, and what did they do in response? Have her evaluated for a mental illness.

You know that's what's wrong in this country, crazy people are being treated like crazy people instead of prophets or seers.

It is all down hill from here.

P.S. Boy that Hasselbeck is certainly fitting in well over there at Fox, don't you think? Really found her niche.

The same people who are trying to rewrite our history to make us a Christian nation with a God-inspired Constitution are supporting this woman's rant which expresses the opposite view. Very confusing.

maybe we should just leave this poor woman alone while she gets the care that she needs.

“For the past 2 and 1/2 weeks, the Holy Spirit has been waking me up in the middle of the night and preparing me (through my reluctance and doubt) to deliver a message in the House Chamber,” stenographer Dianne Foster Reidy told Fox News’s Chad Pergram in a written statement. “That is what I did last night.”

Dam right she should have been removed. And fired. She is the STENOGRAPHER. Her job is to record. period. Her voice is not supposed to be heard. She is not a Congressman. Her job is simple - record everything said as accurately as possible. If she can't do that without keeping her mouth shut, she needs to get a different job.

What is Hasselbecks' claim to fame besides being a TeaDroid, a militant Christian, and a blonde bobblehead?

Oh, that's right, she appeared in a swimsuit on Survivor, so that means she has cred, and name recog, so let's make another blonde bimbo eye candy on the couch for the Teaaggers to drool over.

It is offensive. She should be fired. How can we find out? It is not her job to hold forth with any opinion in that chamber and her previous work ought to be reviewed for accuracy. What a friggin' mess that such a person has been allowed to linger in that chamber. But am I surprised? Not in the least. The collective IQ in the House has been on the decline for years. Also, it begs the question: Who does the hiring for such positions?

One of my first thoughts on hearing about this was that I hoped her work was checked before it appeared in the Congressional Record. Let's hope that the stress of sitting there recording verbatim what the far right teabagger members of Congress were saying simply got to be too much for her, especially when her salary was been withheld. A long rest somewhere might help.

Why Did the GOP Miscalculate So Badly in the Shutdown Battle?

...First, let's be clear, the Republicans were not "defeated" by the Democrats in this battle. They self-destructed. As Congressman Zoe Lofgren said last night, this was not so much a homicide as a suicide.

And let there be no mistake, the shutdown battle has been an unqualified political disaster for the Republican Party. Some Republican pundits claim that "both parties" have suffered. Maybe. But in the political context that can't be true. The outcome either benefits one side or the other. In this case, the relative damage to the Republican Party was massive.

Public support for Republican candidates plummeted, and its chances of maintaining control of the House and gaining control of the Senate decreased.

Fewer Americans now have a favorable view of the Republican brand than at any other time in the history of polling.

... Worse, for the GOP, the shutdown has jeopardized the Party's control of the House, and its hopes of retaking the Senate in next year's elections.

Recently, Public Policy Polling (PPP) conducted surveys for MoveOn.org in 36 swing Congressional districts with Republican incumbents and found that, after the shutdown, Democrats could easily win at least 29. Democrats only need 17 seats to take control of the House. In virtually every district the shutdown was highly unpopular and messaging about the shutdown increased the Democratic lead in the survey.

Republicans have to take at least six seats to take control of the Senate next year. But another PPP poll released yesterday in six key swing Senate races -- this one sponsored by Americans United for Change -- found that voters were extremely unhappy with the shutdown and as a result Democrats led in five and are tied in a sixth. That is particularly true because many of the GOP Senate challengers are currently members of the House majority that helped lead the shutdown effort.

But that's not all. The shutdown battle exploded divisions and disunity in the GOP. It exposed a civil war in the Republican Party between the Tea Party and the Party's establishment, the business wing that provides its financial base. And it created greater unity in the Democratic Party and progressive movement than at any other time in the last half century.

Unions, community groups, religious organizations, women's groups, vets and progressive organizations all worked with passion and complete harmony to mobilize everyday people across America. They generated tens of thousands of calls to Congress, produced TV spots, conducted press events, attended town hall meetings, and generated robust digital programs. The progressive base was inspired by the resolution and clarity of the president and Congressional leadership.

The Republicans started the battle intent on "defunding Obamacare." When it ended, Obamacare was practically unscathed. In fact, the technical glitches associated with its launch had been completely overshadowed by the shutdown but the program was off and running.

The Republicans have been a mess since prior to President Obama being elected the first time. They have called him horrible things, have lied and spread horrible things about him. Plus, they've been horribly racist! They only listen to themselves and their own polls which has also been their downfall.

I say thank you every day that we have President Obama in the White House. I cannot imagine ONE of the Republicans being there....

They are going to go down even further when the next elections occur and I can hardly wait!

The media is already trying to blame President Obama and the Dems for the mess these recent past weeks...tell me the radio and TV channels are NOT Republican driven! And, we've won in spite of their bullshit and money!

I'm going to work very, very hard prior to the next election cycle in my city to work against the Republican party (state and local). I plan to remind folks of the things they've said and done since President Obama was reelected. It's not going to be pretty!!!!

The fact of the matter is that it wasn’t Ted Cruz or John Boehner who caused the latest Republican crushing defeat. It was President Obama steadfastly saying no.

The seeds of the most embarrassing Republican defeat in decades were planted when congressional Republicans and their corporate billionaires made the mistake of misjudging President Obama’s character.

Republicans have long been torn on Obama. Republicans alternate between paranoid visions of the president as some sort of socialist superman who is out to destroy America, and the idea that the president is a weak and inept bumbler. When the Koch brothers and congressional Republicans got together in January to plot their government shutdown strategy, they fatally made the decision that Obama could be bullied. This would turn out to be their greatest miscalculation.

    1. Ultimately it was Obama's fault, but not for the reasons you state.

The Republicans had every reason to believe the President (and the Democrats) would cave in and agree to their extortion demands because they have done so previously and often.

So this was a surprise to them when Obama didn't budge one bit, didn't agree to one demand. They were shocked when he actually stood firm. Even more shocked when the Democrats united and stood firm as well.

This is called discipline. Teachers know it. Good parents know it. Even dog trainers know it.

I said long ago that Obama should have been the one to take the training to be in charge of Bo. Had he done so, he would have learned the basics of not only training a dog but any other mammal, including humans.

      1. Communicate clearly.
      2. Be consistent.
      3. Immediate feedback: praise for compliance and punishment for defiance.

Obama and the Democrats have failed in #2 repeatedly. They have made statements (like they would not compromise) and then backed off and done exactly that. That has trained the Republicans' behavior into thinking that every time they make demands, the President and Democrats will eventually agree. Only this time that didn't happen.

About time the Dems and Obama grew a backbone and learned how to discipline not only their own party members but also the other side.

This latest fiasco by the Republibaggers pretty much clinched 2016. No matter who the Democrats put forth, they'll likely win. If it's Hillary, no Republican challenger has a chance.

Imagine, first our first non-white male President, now our first woman President.

      And both of them Democrats.

I think we'll need to give a big round of applause and thank Ted Cruz and to a lesser extent, Paul rAyn, Eric Cantor, Sarah Palin, Michelle Bachmann and the entire nutjob gallery without whom this would not be possible.

This morning our local radio station (local program, NPR) featured an interview with Frank Schaefer whose mother is "the evangelical writer Edith Schaeffer, and his family had a profound impact on Christianity and politics in America."

Frank rejected his fundamentalist background and has now written a few books about it. In this morning's interview he shed some insight on the (twisted) mind of someone like Cruz....said Cruz and his ilk will not experience this as a loss or embarrassment, because it adds to their myth of being persecuted Christians. They EXPECT vilification, and they see themselves in a shining light.

The whole interview is fascinating and worth listening to. Can be heard here if interested.

As a former fundie, I agree with Frank they will say they are persecuted for Christ. Also, the masons are devils to the religious right because of their secret oaths and ceremonies, considered a pagan religion and downright Satan worship. I had to renounce pages and pages and pages my church gave me regarding the masons since my ancestors were strongly into Masonry for generations. Masons are anathema to the fundamentalists. I'm sure Bachmann would be right beside her. I really never understood all that stuff, but I guarantee you that this woman has been going to a fundie church regularly.
