Every once in while it's important to remind everybody of these facts.

Remember the conservatives can make up whatever they want but the history of this country has been written down. You just have to take the time to look it up and refute the BS.

"You just have to take the time to look it up and refute the BS."

Too many people who are too lazy to take the time to look.

And, unfortunately, since so damned many people are going (have gone) through a school system that allows them to get out without being able to locate Washington, D.C., on a map, there are too few who actually have read the Constitution!

    1. I don't dispute anything you say.

I'd just like to point out that geography is different than history. While the public schools are still attempting to teach history (you can lead a horse to water....) they don't teach much geography any more, it not being on the standardized tests. NCLB and all that.

mlaiuppa, You are right and wrong. It doesn't surprise me at all that geography isn't taught, but that problem I brought up about where DC is, has been a standard interview question from pollsters for at least two decades.

However, I know they DO NOT spend anywhere near the time on the Constitution that they used to. My nieces and nephews - all of whom are either just out of high school or are still in - tell me their history lessons on the Constitution were at most three days. THREE DAYS! (I have to admit, though, that I am in SC and that could explain it!)

We spent six WEEKS on it. An entire grading period! It just goes to the point I was trying to make with Gryphen.

What bothers me the most about this? How can one defend one's rights if one doesn't know what those rights are?

In my book, EVERYONE should KNOW the Constitution!

When I hear one of these brain washed know-nothings talk about how this is a Christian nation it really irks me. They need to take their primitive fairy tale mythology and set up a theocracy somewhere else.

I had this very conversation with a dear friend about a year and a half ago on Facebook. She was citing that "In God We Trust" was in the Constitution. I carefully corrected her and gave her a link to a copy of the Constitution. She then stated "well...I meant the Bill of Rights". Once again, now embarrassed for her, corrected her and gave her a link to the Bill of Rights and a link to Wikipedia with the history of the sentence. Her response? "well...we're just going to have to agree to disagree." Arrggghh!

    Sheesh

I had the same thing happen when President Obama made the treasury move "In God We Trust" away from it's traditional place where people's eyes go to to read it. I told him that's why we have the "alien" pyramid symbol with the all seeing eye in the top triangle on money. To this day he hasn't figured out what it is and why it's there.

I don't have the heart to tell him to google "The Eye Of Providence".

I don't know if it's laziness or ignorance, but it is willful and it drives people to madness. Why people are so incurious about the facts and so willing to "Take someone's word" as "truth" is beyond me.

I was beyond amazed that even after being supplied with the facts...links to the very documents themselves...that she just wasn't going to accept the facts. Just put her head in the sand and left it there.

      Sheesh
