Upset by the news that one of her favorite television reality stars had been benched by his network after making controversial remarks about homosexuality, a Matanuska Valley woman took to Facebook to express her disapproval.
The woman, whose Facebook profile lists her politics as "Conservative" but offers little other detail about her interests, is presumably a "Duck Dynasty" fan, as she voiced outrage at the A&E network's suspension of Phil Robertson, a cast member on the unscripted program. Robertson made controversial remarks about homosexuality in an interview with GQ.
"Free speech is an endangered species," wrote the woman, who was at one time active in local politics, even serving a stint as governor of Alaska, but has since scaled back her community involvement to focus on family and professional obligations. While her Facebook profile identifies her hometown as Wasilla, neighbors say she's been traveling frequently and may be maintaining homes outside the state. They added that she mostly keeps in touch these days via social media.
"Those 'intolerants' hatin' and taking on the Duck Dynasty patriarch for voicing his personal opinion are taking on all of us," wrote the mother of five and grandmother.
Other recent posts to her Facebook timeline include photos from a family visit to the Billy Graham Library, inspirational Christmas quotes, and a cute video of a polar bear.

Sarah Palin’s defense of Duck Dynasty’s Phil Robertson’s racist and homophobic comments demonstrates that former MSNBC host Martin Bashir was right about her all along.
Robertson’s comments about gays to GQ are getting the bulk of the attention, “Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men,” he says. Then he paraphrases Corinthians: “Don’t be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers—they won’t inherit the kingdom of God. Don’t deceive yourself. It’s not right.”
However, his comments about race were just as bad, “I never, with my eyes, saw the mistreatment of any black person. Not once. Where we lived was all farmers. The blacks worked for the farmers. I hoed cotton with them. I’m with the blacks, because we’re white trash. We’re going across the field…. They’re singing and happy. I never heard one of them, one black person, say, ‘I tell you what: These doggone white people’—not a word!… Pre-entitlement, pre-welfare, you say: Were they happy? They were godly; they were happy; no one was singing the blues.”
All of this racism and bigotry was music to Sarah Palin’s ears. She posted a message of support for Robertson on her Facebook page, “Free speech is an endangered species. Those “intolerants” hatin’ and taking on the Duck Dynasty patriarch for voicing his personal opinion are taking on all of us.”
According to those of Palin’s ilk, racism and bigotry are just personal opinions that they are allowed to spew as much as they want without consequences. It doesn’t matter that the views expressed by Robertson in the GQ article are wrong. He blames African American unhappiness on welfare and entitlements, without realizing that the majority of welfare recipients are white. The majority of those who get most of the entitlements in this country are also white.
It’s interesting that Palin is so willing to defend Robertson’s “free speech,” when she threw a fit and made sure that Martin Bashir was denied his right of free speech. If free speech means that Phil Robertson gets to insult gays and African African Americans, it must also mean that Martin Bashir has a right to use insulting language towards Sarah Palin.
Sarah Palin is trying to claim free speech rights only for views that she agrees with. Ironically, the hundreds of thousands of evangelical conservatives who are running to Phil Robertson’s defense are confirming their bigotry and racism to the rest of the country.
Bashir lost his job, because he was right about Palin. He was right about the ugliness that she thrives and feeds off of. Her comments defending Phil Robertson confirm that Bashir was unjustly pushed out the door at MSNBC. The fate of Martin Bashir delivered a powerful message. The media will never stand up to right wing racism and bigotry, and they will remove anyone from their ranks who do.

'Anti-Christian Bigotry': Conservative Group Demands Reinstatement Of 'Duck Dynasty' Star
The conservative Faith & Freedom Coalition is launching a "grassroots campaign" against the A&E television network in response to the suspension of Phil Robertson after the popular 'Duck Dynasty' star made controversial anti-gay remarks in an interview with GQ magazine.
The group is urging its 800,000 members in phone calls, emails and text messages to contact the network to "protest this act of anti-Christian bigotry and urge that Mr. Robertson be reinstated to 'Duck Dynasty.'"
“In the interview with GQ, he never represented his views and values as being those of A&E or the producers of ‘Duck Dynasty,'" said Ralph Reed, chairman of Faith & Freedom Coalition, in a statement. "He was specifically asked about his views on sin and God’s best plan for humanity and he answered honestly, forthrightly, even directly paraphrasing the Bible (1 Corinthians 6:9). He foreswore any hatred or discrimination against any other person. And his comments were based on his faith in God, not animus directed at gays or others who might be different from him."
Robertson, the patriarch of America's biggest show on cable, ranted about the "sin" of homosexuality and compared it to "bestiality."
"It seems like, to me, a vagina—as a man—would be more desirable than a man’s anus," said Roberston. "That’s just me. I’m just thinking: There’s more there! She’s got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I’m saying? But hey, sin: It’s not logical, my man. It’s just not logical."
A&E placed Robertson on indefinite suspesnion on Wednesday, but many conservatives have come to his defense, including Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal (R), former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX).
MSNBC got rid of Alec Baldwin when he called a photographer some homophobic names. They didn't want to be associated with a guy who used that kind of language, even if it wasn't on the air. Same thing for Robertson. He had issues with A&E before the article, and his extreme views would be associated with the network he appeared on. The right to free speech does not mean that he has the right to say them on the air. The network has the final word on that one.

“They will dishonor their bodies with one another,” he continued. “Is that going on in the United States of America? Look around.”

Upset by the news that one of her favorite television reality stars had been benched by his network after making controversial remarks about homosexuality, a Matanuska Valley woman took to Facebook to express her disapproval.
The woman, whose Facebook profile lists her politics as "Conservative" but offers little other detail about her interests, is presumably a "Duck Dynasty" fan, as she voiced outrage at the A&E network's suspension of Phil Robertson, a cast member on the unscripted program. Robertson made controversial remarks about homosexuality in an interview with GQ.
"Free speech is an endangered species," wrote the woman, who was at one time active in local politics, even serving a stint as governor of Alaska, but has since scaled back her community involvement to focus on family and professional obligations. While her Facebook profile identifies her hometown as Wasilla, neighbors say she's been traveling frequently and may be maintaining homes outside the state. They added that she mostly keeps in touch these days via social media.
"Those 'intolerants' hatin' and taking on the Duck Dynasty patriarch for voicing his personal opinion are taking on all of us," wrote the mother of five and grandmother.
Other recent posts to her Facebook timeline include photos from a family visit to the Billy Graham Library, inspirational Christmas quotes, and a cute video of a polar bear.

Robertson’s comments about gays to GQ are getting the bulk of the attention, “Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men,” he says. Then he paraphrases Corinthians: “Don’t be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers—they won’t inherit the kingdom of God. Don’t deceive yourself. It’s not right.”
However, his comments about race were just as bad, “I never, with my eyes, saw the mistreatment of any black person. Not once. Where we lived was all farmers. The blacks worked for the farmers. I hoed cotton with them. I’m with the blacks, because we’re white trash. We’re going across the field…. They’re singing and happy. I never heard one of them, one black person, say, ‘I tell you what: These doggone white people’—not a word!… Pre-entitlement, pre-welfare, you say: Were they happy? They were godly; they were happy; no one was singing the blues.”
All of this racism and bigotry was music to Sarah Palin’s ears. She posted a message of support for Robertson on her Facebook page, “Free speech is an endangered species. Those “intolerants” hatin’ and taking on the Duck Dynasty patriarch for voicing his personal opinion are taking on all of us.”
According to those of Palin’s ilk, racism and bigotry are just personal opinions that they are allowed to spew as much as they want without consequences. It doesn’t matter that the views expressed by Robertson in the GQ article are wrong. He blames African American unhappiness on welfare and entitlements, without realizing that the majority of welfare recipients are white. The majority of those who get most of the entitlements in this country are also white.
It’s interesting that Palin is so willing to defend Robertson’s “free speech,” when she threw a fit and made sure that Martin Bashir was denied his right of free speech. If free speech means that Phil Robertson gets to insult gays and African African Americans, it must also mean that Martin Bashir has a right to use insulting language towards Sarah Palin.
Sarah Palin is trying to claim free speech rights only for views that she agrees with. Ironically, the hundreds of thousands of evangelical conservatives who are running to Phil Robertson’s defense are confirming their bigotry and racism to the rest of the country.
Bashir lost his job, because he was right about Palin. He was right about the ugliness that she thrives and feeds off of. Her comments defending Phil Robertson confirm that Bashir was unjustly pushed out the door at MSNBC. The fate of Martin Bashir delivered a powerful message. The media will never stand up to right wing racism and bigotry, and they will remove anyone from their ranks who do.

MSNBC got rid of Alec Baldwin when he called a photographer some homophobic names. They didn't want to be associated with a guy who used that kind of language, even if it wasn't on the air. Same thing for Robertson. He had issues with A&E before the article, and his extreme views would be associated with the network he appeared on. The right to free speech does not mean that he has the right to say them on the air. The network has the final word on that one.

That means Robertson likely isn't needed in front of the camera before next March, by which time this whole crisis may have blown over. And blow over it will, eventually, says veteran Hollywood crisis publicist Howard Bragman, who added that Robertson will likely return to the show as well, perhaps after making a heartfelt apology.
Time to negotiate a new contract? Are they looking for a bidding war from another channel? Is Sarah selling them to the Sportsman channel to boost her ratings?
