Hey remember that sob story about "Bette" having to pay $700 more for premiums thanks to Obamacare that was told during the official GOP response to the President's SOTU speech? Yeah that was bullshit.

"Wait, I'm getting fact checked? Nobody said anything about fact checking."
Courtesy of the LA Times:

The centerpiece of the Republican party's attack on the Affordable Care Act following President Obama's State of the Union address this week was the story of "Bette."

Bette was an otherwise unidentified Washington state resident featured in the official GOP response to the Obama speech delivered by Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.). According to Rodgers,

Bette had written her a letter stating that she had "hoped the president’s healthcare law would save her money – but found out instead that her premiums were going up nearly $700 a month." The lesson, according to Rodgers: "This law is not working." Bette has now been tracked down by her hometown Spokane Spokesman-Review. She's Bette Grenier, who owns a small business with her husband. Unsurprisingly, her story is much different from the sketchy description provided by Rodgers. That description perplexed experts, including Washington State Insurance Commissioner Mike Kreidler, who couldn't understand how a state resident "would have no choice but to pay $700 per month more for a policy that meets the Affordable Care Act’s coverage requirements," the newspaper reported.

Grenier told the newspaper that she wrote Rodgers after her insurance company informed her that her $552-a-month catastrophic health plan would not be offered in 2014. It offered her an alternative plan complying with the ACA at $1,052 a month.

But that sounds like her insurer trying to steer her to an overpriced option. A compliant plan meeting the Affordable Care Act's coverage mandates actually is available from Washington's insurance exchange for much less -- and with a deductible far lower than the $10,000 she was paying under the old plan and broader coverage, though lacking a provision for four free doctor visits a year provided by her old plan.

Grenier said she had flatly refused to even investigate her options on the exchange. "I wouldn’t go on that Obama website at all,” she said. “We liked our old plan. It worked for us, but they can’t offer it anymore.”

Instead, she and her husband "have decided to go without coverage," the newspaper reported.

"We wouldn't go on that Obama website."

We "have decided to go without coverage."

Yeah THAT'LL teach Obama!

You know the Republican strategy for 2014 seems to be to make a bunch of commercials featuring people who are upset at the horrible things that Obamacare has done to their health insurance.

However if THIS is the best they can do, and remember this was featured in the OFFICIAL Republican response, then it should prove quite easy for the Democrats to smack each one down in turn.

Essentially the Republican's position seems to be, "We hate Obamacare because Obama passed it, we like our OLD health care though we never really understood it, and we cannot work a computer. Benghazi, Benghazi, Benghazi!"

Mike Kriedler has been insurance commissioner for years and is a good advocate for the public. So this stupid woman chose to not go near the state exchange (one of the better functioning ones) and will fly without coverage because the GOP had poisoned her against obamacare. That is immoral.

But the Dems need to watch out. People like this stupid woman will not pay close enough attention to realize that it was the INSURANCE COMPANY that was trying to screw her over with the new overpriced plan & not mentioning all her options. And it was the GOP that gave her false information on Obamacare. And per the HuffPo article this morning the people in states where the asshole GOP governors won't expand Medicaid are highly distressed that they cannot get coverage and see it as a broken promise. But they may not realize that it is the ASSHOLE GOP GOVERNOR that is not expanding Medicaid, not the ACA itself.

Never underestimate the cluelessness of many voters -- they will knee jerk blame the ACA and not know the real reason. The Dems need to point out these issues explicitly and not assume people will get the true picture.

This is going on in Alaska right now and Gov Parnell is up for reelection. (Remember him? The guy that supports Sarah Palin!) Hope folks in their state are paying attention and vote his ass out!

This woman's main job is clip-clopping six steps behind Boehner, Cantor and McCarthy. Some pundit called her the "Stay-home congresswoman." She woodenly read the script provided her and her inflection was like a nasty PTAmom, or something out of "Mean Girls." This one has a long way to go to catch up with the current crop of female politicians.

What idiots!!! Hope this information goes national and shows the ridiculous 'anti President Obama" and the Affordable Care Act crap.

Are they going to be in for a shock when someone (perhaps them!) gets horribly sick in their family w/no coverage. Bankruptcy! They have no clue!

My sister (age 52) took a new job last fall. Her employer runs a small business and is giving her $300 monthly on top of her salary to help pay for insurance. My sister has asthma and HBP, so would be eligible for help. Instead, like Bette, she hates Obama so much that she didn't even check the exchanges (not that Kasich was a toothpick worth of help in Ohio.) My mom finds the checks on the refrigerator..she isn't sure what my ignorant sister is doing with them, or if she has any coverage this year. And since my mom is a sane and true Democrat, they don't talk much.(I am banned from her home for being a liberal, too..such maturity in my little sister.)

Just tell your sister to check the Affordable Care website--not Obamacare--because she may be one of those stupid people who don't realize they're one and the same.

My feeling is these republicans who refuse to enroll with "Obamacare", are being brainwashed into thinking that he's the anti-Christ, and any system that he implements, is an evil system.

Somewhere, somehow, the religious right have done everything in their power to fool the right-wing into fearing this POTUS. Many ignorants just would rather believe it, without educating themselves.

It's sickening to see how so many politicians are appealing to the fearful voters, fooling them, stranding them, and then using their 'story' to get more votes. The GOP doesn't have a conscience.

Saw a long (it seemed to go on for minutes) spot today on CNN- courtesy of the Koch's money laundering PAC. It was some woman with a chronic condition now uninsured because of that nasty, marxist, Kenyan, black guy and his Obamacare. (And… sniff…. I voted for him…. sniff.)

I hope someone is investigating each and every one of these Bettes to see what the real story is.

Washington state has it's own exchange and she would never have gone to the "Obama" (i.e. Federal) website for insurance in Washington state. These people are idiots and Republicans are proud to have them as constituents. Sad.

I am so healthy it hurts. My husband and I haven't run up $10,000.00 in medical bills since I had my kids over 30 years ago, and what bills we did incur were paid immediately before we left the doctor's office. Despite this, I couldn't get insurance because I smoke.
Now, thanks to Obamacare and California, I am insured, and the cost is very affordable. If we make more than we are making, the cost will go up, and we will pay it. I am finally insured, at almost 60 years old, and I feel great!
I do have a friend with a small business that has seen his costs go up, which has hurt him, and forced his wife to go to work for a company that covers her. I am going to find out more from them about what actually happened.
I am waiting to see if my premiums go up, but for now, I'm insured at a very very very reasonable rate.
Thank you Mr. Obama and all you Democrats
signed: a humble conservative who voted for Obama

    Bette also says:
“I know some people seem to be getting good deals, but we’re not,” Grenier said. “I have a friend – she and I fight about this stuff all the time – and she got a great deal: $129 a month.”

You know why that is, Bette? Because your "friend" didn't say to herself:

“I wouldn’t go on that Obama website at all. We liked our old plan. It worked for us, but they can’t offer it anymore.”

So the rest of us who buy insurance get to pay for Bette's husband when he falls off a roof and hurts himself. Bette and her husband are a couple of "takers", if you ask me. I hope that when that catastrophe that they're not insured for happens that they'll get what's coming to them - a GREAT BIG BILL that cripples their credit for life.

How can you afford to live in AK but not in WA? I don't understand. We are moving in three years from AK to WA and already are looking at homes with many more amenities in even better planned communities than we live in here in Alaska and the price is so much less. Also groceries, utilities and basic living expenses are so much less. I can get a new home 45 minutes from Seattle for less than $300 grand for almost 3000 square feet. Spokane is even cheaper but living there is almost like living in Alaska, both with the climate and the demographics. Look around a bit and you will find that Pacific Northwest living is much cheaper than Alaska living.

Sarah in 2008 famously tried to press the fact that she and Todd lived without health insurance, for what purpose, still confounds me, but Todd kept having to admit they had catastrophic coverage like Bette, all along. This is where Steve Schmidt realized Sarah had a 'casual relationship' with the truth.

Is Bette related to "the woman" at the fair who tapped Bachmann on the shoulder and told her that just after getting the HPV vaccine, her daughter suffered Mental Retardation?????
Why is it, when the media researches and finds out it's ignorance, not the ACA, that's causing Bette's expensive temper tantrum, we never hear about it on the flat screen machine?
So now we know the rest of the story that the stepford GOP woman made up to make the ACA look bad. Bet she'd get REAL bitchy if people called her a bold faced liar, and play the "Christian Persecution" card.
