Right Wing claims it was Rachel Maddow, not Sarah Palin, who got Martin Bashir fired. Maddow calls BS on that accusation.

"I'm sorry, I did what?"
It looks like the attempts to damage the credibility of MSNBC has taken a new tack. Now the MSNBC hosts are being accused of eating their young.

This courtesy of National Review Online:

Sources say it is Maddow rather than Phil Griffin who provides MSNBC’s editorial direction, and that she also holds considerable sway over personnel decisions. “I know I’m never going to get freakin’ talking points from Phil,” Maddow told The New Yorker last year. “Can you imagine? Like, what would they be?”

Behind her back, colleagues call her “the queen,” a not so subtle suggestion that Maddow gets what Maddow wants. And what she wants is a network filled with young wonks such as Chris Hayes, Ezra Klein, Alex Wagner, and Harris-Perry, whose highbrow intellectualism can, she hopes, push the Democratic party, and the country, to the left. On Twitter, Harris-Perry’s show proudly uses the hashtag #nerdland. Alex Wagner’s move to the 4 p.m. hour, where Bashir’s show once aired, has Maddow’s fingerprints on it.

Griffin, who came of age as a sports producer at CNN and then as a booker on the Today show, is, according to a former colleague, “utterly non-ideological.” “He makes decisions,” says the former colleague, “based on 30-day trailing numbers” and lacks a strategic vision. Maddow, who came aboard in 2008, has filled the ideological void. “Alec Baldwin and Martin were outliers; they weren’t part of her inner circle,” says a television insider. “Bashir’s contract was up, he was twisting in the wind when this happened, and he was out of sync with Rachel’s ideology.”

First I am not at all convinced that Phil Griffin is "utterly non-ideological," there are plenty who believe he is fairly Right Wing but keeps that under wraps in order to run a mostly Left leaning cable show.

As for this "scoop" the writer is Eliana Johnson who was once a producer for Fox News, and now works for this Right Wing rag.

The Fox News vendetta against MSNBC is well documented and I doubt there are very many on the Right who would not like to see them go down in flames. So recognizing that reality, WHO exactly on the MSNBC staff would be giving up dirt on Rachel Maddow?

Yeah, my thoughts exactly.

As for Rachel, she wasted no time in refuting this conservative fantasy:

“This is categorically false,” Rachel Maddow said. “I have never had any role in any management decision at MSNBC. Any source who says otherwise is wrong.”

You know when I think of integrity it is Rachel Maddow's face I see.

Number one this does not sound like her, and number two if it WERE she would simply stay silent about it. NOT lie.

NO if anybody is responsible for the firing of Martin Bashir, it is Sarah Palin and the flying monkeys on the Right Wing fringe. Oh, and Phil Griffin of course.

Looks like Sarah's buddy at Fox is getting blasted for his lies and deceptions. Wish someone would go after her the same way!

Christian Writer Calls Out Fox’s ‘Huckster’ Todd Starnes for Lying About ‘War on Christianity’

    http://www.patheos.com/blogs/christandpopculture/2013/12/todd-starnes-sold-us-a-war-on-christianity-we-bought-it/

“When Starnes reports on an event, he will influence the way a lot of people think,” Noble wrote. That’s “alarming,” he said, because Starnes “consistently deceives and manipulates facts in order to exaggerate or fabricate incidences of Christian persecution.” After trudging through Starnes’ social media posts, Noble rightfully concluded that “these reports influence a great deal of people who often respond with hatred, anger, and disgust out of ignorance.”

I've been saying for awhile that Fox is out to take down MSNBC and this new president of the network is a closet right winger from what I'm seeing. It's beyond disgusting how Fox can say anything about anybody, start rumors, lie blatently and they NEVER have to answer for it. All they do is twist a sentence or two that's stated on MSNBC and trumpet it non stop for 24/7 until some sort of action must be taken to shut them the hell up...and of course Baldy Bitch has to weigh in on everything, ratcheting up the outrage. It's a cyle of destructive and damaging results that just keeps playing out and NO ONE holds Fox accountable. Sickening.

And now we've got another blubbering idiot conservative crying crocodile tears that his spin isn't working anymore.

Oh cry me a damn river! Luntz is having a mid life crisis because he is unhappy with a world he helped create. This smarmy guy spent the better part of his career trying to divide the country, and NOW he's bitching about the country being divided! What a fucking moron. So he's all depressed and living alone in his huge mansion eating canned spaghetti and feeling sorry for himself because Mitt lost and he couldn't stop it. And OF COURSE he blames President Obama for everything.

    The Agony of Frank Luntz

... The crisis began, he says, after last year’s presidential election, when Luntz became profoundly depressed. For more than a month, he tried to stay occupied, but nothing could keep his attention. Finally, six weeks after the election, during a meeting of his consulting company in Las Vegas, he fell apart. Leaving his employees behind, he flew back to his mansion in Los Angeles, where he stayed for three weeks, barely going outside or talking to anyone.

“I just gave up,” the pollster said. After the election, he seemingly realized Americans want to “impose their opinions rather than express them,” and that a divided country will find it harder to warmly receive his conservative sales pitches.

Glenn Beck Defends Melissa Harris-Perry: No Apology Necessary

...Beck added that he related to Harris-Perry’s situation, saying, “I’ve been there.” He accused conservatives of failing to see the MSNBC “for who she is, and we’re engaging now in the worst kind of political destruction… Our side sees blood in the water and is going after MSNBC.”

“We do not have a right as a people to not be offended,” Beck continued. “We do have a right to speak our mind. We do have the right to tell a joke.”

But Beck saved the strongest statement for the end of his letter: “In the grand scheme of things, if this is her big screw-up, she’s way ahead of me as a human being.”

Beck is also a born-again Mormon. Perhaps he is cosying up to Romney. In any case, at least he said positive things about Ms. Harris Perry.

Right after the Bashir slavery piece, someone posted an article about it on (where else?) Breitbart totally misquoting what he said. The statements attributed to him were FROM THAT ARTICLE. I just happened to be perusing the pee puddle, because I wondered if anyone even watches Bashir and would say something, and someone posted the Breitbart lie. Believe you me, the flying monkeys went into full blown attack mode, as they always do, filling inboxes and voice mails of MSNBC and sponsors of Rachel's show.

They are allowed to exercise their civil rights as we all are, that's not my issue with this. They take everything skewered thing on Breitbart as gospel, for one, and Bashir was within his rights to say what he did. MSNBC needs to grow a freaking backbone. Put blame where blame is due, and it's not with Rachel.

The demographic that MSNBC is searching for no longer clings to the TV and if we do we don't actually "watch TV" we stream selected content from the web onto our smart TV's. That being said, I don't even know if we "count" when it comes to viewership on the classic old school counting systems such as Neilsen ratings. I always think the reason that Fox outpaces MSNBC for viewership ratings is because the people that watch Fox actually tune in via old fashioned "cable TV" type access and not TV via web.

That being said, Phil Griffin is just into it for the bottom line, period. Rachel is smart and has a lot to say about a lot of things. I'd never heard of Melissa Parry until this latest kerfluffle but she also seems to be a very intelligent commentator. I wish MSNBC would realize that many of their viewers want something different than just the basic "cable news network" thing that many of us no longer subscribe to. If they want to be progressive then they should show it, not just with their hosts but with their outreach.

      :-)

Great take on what is happening in progressive media. Not only do we have to stop rolling over and giving up, media execs need to realize that they need to change up their game in order to relate to those under 50. Phil Griffin is getting heat from the "money guys" you betcha he is but perhaps Rachel needs to find a home on an alternative web or live streaming network and tell MSNBC to kiss her ass. She's way too smart for them and for this old fashioned thing called cable/network TV. My 25 year old niece doesn't even know what MSNBC or FOX News even is. That should be their clue. I'm old (49) but run a team of men and women that are decades younger than I am and we work in a tech environment and they keep me on the cusp of what is happening, and really TV as I knew it in my youth is dead.

You're absolutely right...this is all about demographics.

While Fox has sewn up the old, white (mostly male) audience (which is, thankfully, dying out), MSNBC is going for the young, educated, liberal-leaning audience that will be watching for years to come. Putting young, smart, well-educated, attractive hosts who know their stuff on their shows makes sense. I know nothing about running a television network and I can figure out that much!

"You know when I think of integrity it is Rachel Maddow's face I see."

It was for me, too, until she started pushing the debunking 9-11 myths books.

It is not possible to obtain a PhD in any discipline without understanding some basic tenets of others.

I still would like Dr. Maddow to explain how the only two steel structures to ever collapse from fire fell at the speed of gravity, and how they somehow caused another steel structure to collapse the same way, for no apparent reason.

She is not too much different from any corporate shill, she dare not say what is not the party line.

    American corporate media are sockpuppets.

Guess you don't have a PhD in any arena...."speed of light" and "speed of sound" are common terms that refer to measurement of traveling waves.

Gravity is commonly referred to as a "force".

Stupidity can be measured and described as an event, for instance, "struck dumb".

In this context, speed of gravity = free-fall velocity.
    That should be clear.
