The Republican talking points on Bridge-gate revealed. Update!

This video is dead on, and if you watched the Sunday shows yesterday I certainly don't have to tell you that.

From Reince Prebus on Meet the Press, to various other GOP mouthpieces, the name of the game was to exalt Christie for manning up and giving that 107 minute press conference, suggesting that President Obama had worse scandals, and attempt to change the narrative from Bridge-ghazi back to Benghazi.

I wonder if they realize that having so many operatives, spouting the exact same talking points, makes it child's play to see how terrified they are that this scandal will stick and take their golden boy out of the running in 2016?

Cause it kinda does.

Update: Newly revealed documents seem to indicate that Christie's inner circle were WELL aware of bridge-gate before, during, and after:

Thousands of pages of documents released this week by a legislative panel investigating the lane closures at the George Washington Bridge show members of Gov. Chris Christie's inner circle were well-informed about the apparently politically motivated traffic jams the governor said took him by surprise.

When an executive at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey angrily asserted the lane closures were a threat to public safety - and possibly illegal - the email ended up in the hands of a close Christie adviser that he had planned to promote.

When a reporter demanded answers about the huge traffic jams, a high-ranking port authority official appointed by Christie didn't refer it to his agency's media relations staff. He ordered it sent to the governor's press secretary.

And when the lanes were reopened at last, another authority staffer emailed the governor's now-fired deputy chief of staff to say Christie's hand-picked agency chairman was helping to "retaliate" against the official who stopped the closures.

The revelations about how much Christie's close aides knew about the closures could undermine the governor's attempts to distance himself from the scandal that threatens to overshadow his inauguration later this month and upend his possible candidacy for president in 2016.

And if that were not enough, now Christie is being investigated concerning how he spent that Sandy relief money

CNN has learned that federal officials are investigating whether Christie improperly used those relief funds to produce tourism ads that starred him and his family.

If the Sandy inquiry finds any wrongdoing, it could prove even more damaging to Christie's national ambitions. His performance during and after the superstorm has been widely praised and is a fundamental part of his straight-shooting political brand.

Damn, I wonder how much longer it will be before buzzards start circling Christie's political career?

I wonder if that was a snide reference to the President, since he is known for being respectful to people, soft-spoken, thoughtful, good with children, intellectual, supportive of gun control, focused on helping the poor and middle class...all the qualities that are completely the opposite of Christie and those like him.

We've all seen the right-wing stories that imply (or downright accuse) Michelle Obama of being a 'beard' and the President of being secretly gay.

I found myself actually yelling at the television yesterday during This Week and Face the Nation!

This was a deliberate act of sabotage, affecting tens of thousands of people, hurting businesses in two states, and putting lives at risk, purely for political purpose (although that specific purpose has yet to be determined). The perpetrators were well aware of the chaos and danger they were causing, and STILL continued for four days, gleefully exchanging emails about how people were suffering, even frightened children who were trapped on buses for hours!

Foreign or domestic terrorists causing this same kind of chaos on the world's busiest bridge, leading into NYC no less, would already be imprisoned in Gitmo. Of course, you could make a case that the people responsible for this incident WERE, in fact, domestic terrorists!

    On the other hand...

BENGHAAAZZZIII!!! was a tragedy that resulted in 4 lives lost because those people were in a war zone. Military officials at all levels have testified that a military response that could have saved those 4 people was impossible.

The IRS 'scandal' was a federal agency DOING ITS JOB and being accused of wrongdoing because Idiot Issa insisted on a report with only half the relevant information, and then spent weeks screaming about it in the media and in unnecessary Congressional hearings.

    THEY WERE NOT SCANDALS!!!!!!!!

Oh, thanks, I feel better now!

Out Of Excuses Fox Hits Rock Bottom By Calling Chris Christie Masculine and Muscular

Fox News knows how to expand the GOP tent. Now they’re blaming women for Chris Christie’s troubles, with Brit Hume saying today on Fox News’ Media Buzz that Christie is masculine and muscular, which is a “risk” in today’s “feminized” atmosphere.

Apparently Brit Hume thinks it’s masculine and muscular to be petty and vindictive. This could explain a lot.

Watch Brit Hume make a fool of himself on the January 12 edition of Fox News’ Media Buzz here via Media Matters:

...Combine this with Bridgegate, and Christie is complete toast when it comes to 2016. These past weeks have shown us the true face of Chris Christie. He is nothing more than a vengeful, petty political animal who has no problem misusing public funds for his own personal ambitions while gladly seeking retribution against anyone who gets in his way.

Christie Allegedly Diverted Millions In Hurricane Sandy Relief Funds To Pay For TV Ads Starring Himself

The Office of the Inspector General at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has opened a federal investigation into whether New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) improperly used Hurricane Sandy relief funds to produce commercials starring himself and his family ahead of his re-election campaign. Auditors will examine how the Christie administration used $25 million set aside for “a marketing campaign to promote the Jersey Shore and encourage tourism,” focusing on the bidding process to award a $4.7 million to a politically connected firm that cast Christie and his family in the Sandy ads, while “a comparable firm proposed billing the state $2.5 million for similar work” but did not include Christie in the commercials.

The ads produced by the company, MWW, attracted significant criticism. The New Jersey Star Ledger accused Christie of siphoning off “money that was intended for victims of Sandy to promote himself in a series of TV ads,” and described the move as “offensive” and a ” new low.” Watch the ad here:

It sure sounds as though Christie is one horribly corrupt Republican politician! Are we going to see a resignation, trial and jail in his future? Would not surprise me at all!

Republicans are a horrid group - obstructionists in the U.S. Congress who have and continue to make things more difficult for the poor and middle class of our nation. They assuredly are NOT listening to the folks that put them in office!

I'd love to see how many Republicans in the United States Congress are as corrupt as Christie. We have more millionaires in Congress today than ever before and many arrived there NOT as millionaires. Many are on the take as to the lobbyists. Our media - internet - bloggers - research - has found out more about our government officials than ever before and the information gets around much more quickly.

There are many more I find circumspect! i.e. Boehner, Cantor, McConnell, etc. Ted Cruz comes to mind as does Issa, who already has a checkered past that has been documented and proven.

Americans need to pay attention for whom they vote in the upcoming elections. Republicans need to be knocked from their seats - especially in the U.S. Congress! There are more Republican governors across our nation (vs Democrats) that have put laws into effect (w/their Republican majority Legislatures) to obstruct voting rights for minorities and implemented many laws (re: abortion, etc.) that are anti women's rights.

Research your candidates that are up for reelection in the U.S. Congress and those in your state legislatures. Review their voting records and see if you are in agreement (or not) w/them. Be knowledgeable of those running for any office in your state and city. Be a responsible voter!!

Discussing Bridge Scandal, Paul Is Forced To Acknowledge That IRS Also Targeted Progressives (VIDEO)

Rand Paul went for a double-whammy in an interview over the weekend.

Asked to address the scandal enveloping his rival, Paul dredged up one of the GOP's favorite attacks against President Obama — but a reporter made sure the Kentucky Republican gave the whole picture.

Paul told the Arizona Republic that the George Washington Bridge scandal currently dogging New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) resonates because "people don't want their officials to use government against them."

He then followed the lead of his fellow Republicans by bringing up the controversy surrounding the Internal Revenue Service.

"A good example of this is the IRS scandal. President Obama used the IRS — or is alleged to have used the IRS — to go after conservative groups and tea party groups —" Paul said.

"And progressives," the off-screen reporter chimed in, forcing Paul to acknowledge both sides of the IRS ordeal.

"Yeah, nobody likes it," Paul said.

Yep, Voter ID Laws Do What You Think

Demos' Tova Andrea Wang: New research on Voter ID laws "found in those states where minority turnout rose from the prior presidential election and where there were a larger percentage of minority voters in the years 2006 to 2011, the number of laws restricting voting rights proposed by lawmakers also went up."

Important new empirical research published in December in the journal Perspectives on Politics by Keith G. Bentele and Erin E. Obrien at the Univeristy of Massachusetts-Boston, however, shines a bright light on just how crass this effort has been and how clear the motives of the Republican state lawmakers have been in proposing and passing laws that would deny eligible citizens the right to vote.

Bentele and O’Brien remove any doubt about the racial motivations – which may coincide with partisan motivations – of the legislators who seek to restrict voting rights. They found in those states where minority turnout rose from the prior presidential election and where there were a larger percentage of minority voters in the years 2006 to 2011, the number of laws restricting voting rights proposed by lawmakers also went up. Similarly, in those states where the percentage of low-income voters rose, the response was to propose more laws making it harder to vote. In those states with a bigger African-American population, more restrictive legislation also passed and became law.

The partisan motive is also further detailed. Unsurprisingly, the more dominant Republicans were in office in the state, the more restrictive voting laws were passed. Moreover, in “swing states,” where Republicans feared losing power, Republican lawmakers responded by passing lots of laws to make voting harder in 2011.

One other finding in the report is in some ways unexpected, except perhaps for those who were fighting this legislation in the states at the time. Where there was an especially dramatic increase in minority voting compared to the previous presidential election, there was not an increase in restrictive voting laws passed, and in fact these states were less likely to pass such legislation in 2011. The authors postulate a rationale for this:

There is a really long list I hope goes national...the TV ads are just the tip of the Sandy money abuse. Chris Hayes did a great job explaining that billions have not been distributed and are kinda missing. There are hundreds of lawsuits by residents waiting for relief while he used funds to secure endorsements.
How about the millions spent for a special election for Cory Booker. It was obvious he didn't want any democrats near his election...which was sure to happen. The millions lost for an education grant due to paperwork and how about nixing the new tunnel project...that would produce millions of union jobs for years, toll revenue and the economic boom in materials needed such as steel/concrete. There was the whole judge thing...calling democrats "animals" and the chair of that committee just happens to represent Fort Lee. The best guess so far is that billion dollar project building all that housing with instant access to the bridge, all for Fort Lee. What I didn't understand is that the Port Authority controls billions in bridge revenue and decides what that money will fund.....as usual, FOLLOW THE MONEY. My bet is on that one as Fort Lee is getting that money along with the economic boom to follow and the bully wasn't getting credit for anything.

Documents released Monday indicate that meetings arranged between top commissioners to Gov. Chris Christie and Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop were abruptly canceled without reason last year—providing evidence of Mr. Fulop's claim that he was cut off after he decided not to endorse the governor.

The documents viewed by The Wall Street Journal through a public records request showed communications between Mr. Fulop and Christie administration staff members arranging the meetings in June and July, until the commissioners all canceled one meeting after another.

For the first couple of days after Chris Christie’s “Bridgegate” broke, the right was oddly quiet. The problem was obvious: there was literally no way to blame Obama. But the right-wing of America is nothing if not…well…completely insane. Instead of being horrified by Christie’s abuse of government power for petty revenge, you know, the kind of thing they’ve been accusing Obama of for 5 years, they decided to be mad at…the “liberal” media.

    No, seriously!
Why is the “liberal” media hyping Bridgegate but ignoring REAL scandals?!?!?!

In order to gloss over Bridgegate, the right has concocted a rather unique narrative to be outraged over. Did you know that the “liberal” media has covered Bridgegate more than they have the IRS “scandal? It’s true! Sort of.

Here’s the NY Post: “Why Bridgegate made headlines but Obama’s IRS scandal didn’t”
Washington Examiner: Nets give ‘Bridgegate’ 17 times more coverage in 1 day than IRS scandal in 6 months
MRC: Deluge: Now 44 Times More TV Coverage of Christie’s Traffic Scandal Than in Last Six Months on IRS

Here’s the “unbiased” Wall Street Journal:

Not that this should make Mr. Christie or any other potential GOP candidate complacent. Republicans operate under a double media standard that holds them to a much lower scandal threshold. In that sense the pathetic New Jersey traffic-lane scandal may be, as Mr. Obama likes to say, a teachable moment.

It’s a scandal! Bridgegate is just minor nothing pay no attention LOOK! The IRS SCANDAL!

They were also forced to retract their Benghazi story, gave a one-sided puff piece on NSA, and a long piece about the "failures" of the clean-tech revolution (when there were/are many well-documented successes). Hummm! the new president of CBS News, David Rhodes, was the vice president of news at Fox "news".

Here's a little-known, fun fact relating to the chairman of the RNC, or, more accurately, to his namesake:

It turns out that the original name for Ian Fleming's Cold War-era fictional British superspy was "Reince Priebus". As the story goes, just before the debut novel went to press, the publisher convened a focus group to evaluate some of the plot lines and character elements.

Everything was going well until they introduced to the group the lead character. When the devilishly handsome, uber-competent undercover agent with a license to kill speaks the now famous catch phrase "My name is Priebus. Reince Priebus." a contagious round of uncontrollable projectile vomiting broke out in the group and the name was immediately changed to the much sexier "Henry Limpet".

Sadly for the legion of ardent Fleming fans, that name was eventually dropped when it was discovered that it had already been copyrighted by Don Knotts International World Enterprises, Inc. and the media juggernaut that was eventually to become "James Bond" was shelved for almost a decade while a new name was sought.

Oh, Beldar... words fail... but laughter wins! Genius!
(Actually, his very name is a "Brechmittel" (German word for emetic) as is his voice and visage. Keep laughing and hope others will continue to do so as well...

  30. Polls show Christie's favorables/unfavorables haven't changed at all.

If the Republicans want him, he'll be on the ticket.

I just don't want to be around when he all out implodes from the pressure.
