A Senate subcommittee in South Carolina is seeking to expand the state’s “Stand Your Ground” defense law to include protections for all children, including unborn ones, beginning from the moment of conception.
Current South Carolina law permits the use of deadly force to protect oneself or others against “imminent peril of death or great bodily injury.” According to Republican State Senators Chip Campsen and Greg Hembree, by that definition the law does not fully apply to pregnant women, since injuries that they face might not put them in “peril of death or great bodily injury,” but could put their fetuses in just such jeopardy.
Democratic State Senator Brad Hutto shared with The State his concern that any new law would be redundant, as it is already legal for a pregnant woman to respond with deadly force. He asked supporters of the measures — three are currently pending — to provide him with an example in which an unborn child’s life would be threatened when the mother’s isn’t.
The subcommittee passed a bill it called “The Pregnant Women’s Protection Act,” but abortion-rights activists claim the name of the bill is a misnomer used to disguise the fact that this bill is actually a back-door effort to grant constitutional rights to embryos from the moment of conception.
You know, the only thing that stops a bad fetus with a gun, is a good fetus with a gun.
I swear these idiots will do just about ANYTHING to try and restrict a woman's right to choose.
As if it wasn't embarrassing enough for the state Congress to even THINK about that crappy amendment to the wooly mammoth as the state fossil, they have to come up with THIS garbage?
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of which, I got a response to my email to Governor Haley. Told me to write to my representatives as if I wasn't smart enough to do that on my own. The way it was stated tried to make it seem as though she had nothing to do with legislation.
I politely wrote back and said SHE had veto authority so I was INCLUDING her in my writings! I'll bet she doesn't like that.
But then, she's a repube governor. What can I expect?
Holy fuck.. the religious folk are losing their collective minds over abortion..
ReplyDeleteGryphen, the whole premise of this law is a legal way to kill abortion providers or their staff in the name of protecting life.
ReplyDeleteThat was my first thought when reading this. Combine it with other laws on the books, and I could see where it might provide just enough protection for some crazed nut to go on a shooting spree of abortion providers, without fear of consequences.
Deletei had not seen it that way --- now that you speak it, i am speechless. the underlying hatred is a woman with the power over life.
DeleteThis is my thought, too. If it's really self defense, that gives someone the right (in their twisted brains) to kill a doctor or even the mother, herself, who puts the fetus at risk.
DeleteRemember, that these people believe a microscopic clump of cells should also be defended.
BINGO !!
DeleteHoly crap, I never thought of it that way. I think you're right.
DeleteThat was my first thought, as well, when I saw that the law included the "defense" of others in danger. It's just open season on Planned Parenthood doctors being approved by the state.
DeleteJust another WINO (Woman In Name Only) who seeks to disempower women.
DeleteApologies to real winos.
So does that mean a woman gets equal pay also, too?
ReplyDeleteOr just a gun?
O/T but the drums are beginning for another RMoney run. Damn, they're so desperate to even think this.

Only solar, wind is "clean". Watch the movie "Gasland" & Gasland2. It is true as the above vid shows...
DeleteThe cult of the fetus
ReplyDeleteFetus fetish
Fetus worship
If you dare to look into the eyes of the anti-choice protesters, you will see deep emotional and mental disturbance. It's more than the fact they want to control women. They've been brainwashed to believe that the fetus (or embryo for that matter) is some kind of magic creature that they must protect by any means.
And most of them would argue to the death that Mankind ISN'T an animal! To them Mankind is special because he was created by their god in his image!
DeleteTheir ignorance is deeper than whale shit!
"Every sperm is sacred..."
Deleteo/t --- our Saturday Wall Street Journal has finally published the Palin - in-New York interview you featured earlier this week. Trust me when I tell you that the blown -up photo of her, taking up 4/5ths of the top half of the page does. Her no favors: the dirty, unkempt hair, the wrinkled black shirt, made of some material not found in the natural world (she must have killed a giant Nylon monster so she could wear its pelt), the biker-chick black bracelets when compared to the soft gold draperies of the five-star hotel, and, of course, her low-slung black jeans with the image of a penis outlined in white thread.
ReplyDeleteThe article itself, printed in the weekend Review section, clearly shows what a masterful reporter can do: never deviating from reality, but, in doing so, makes Palin sound as crazy as he is, and how she clearly was there on The Sportsman Channel's dime, but didn't bother to promote it or her show more than her "handlers" got her to do. What a rogue!
Perhaps you'll open up another thread to address the actual print-on-paper appearance of the interview?
All I'd have to add is, to Sarah: she says she wants to "help undo the blundered Barack Obama agenda."
First, Sarah, " blundered" is not an adjective, and, second, do you mean you wish to undo the damage done by the GOP and tea bangers so that the Obama agenda could be enacted as he wanted it to be? That's the meaning of your sentence.
I doubt the Journal readers, even the very conservative ones, will bother to read this interview to the end, and may skip over it for good once they see the photo: sadly, Sarah looks like one of the working women who populate Tenth Avenue after the sun goes down.
My favorite part of the interview was when the reporter asked the predictable question about Palin running for president. Why didn't Sarah run in 2012? Palin answered that she had a young, busy family. In 2008, they were four years younger. Trig wasn't even one year old, he had DS and a hole in his heart. She had an unwed pregnant teen daughter, a son who had already gotten into trouble and another daughter heading for trouble. Yet, she ran for VP then.
Delete9:04: Sarah Palin is a study in contradiction and is absolutely befuddling to any sane, rational person. She continues to remain as ignorant and lacking self-awareness as she did in 2008. Even the GOP hasn’t recovered from her run for VP!
DeleteHat tip to the women on 10th Avenue! They at least are honestly self-employed!
DeleteBristol and her ghost writing team keep posting these anti-abortion, life is sacred messages on her Facebook and her blog. Since when is Bristol so politically involved that she scours the internet for every story about abortion? When Bristol gave her interview to Greta, she was proud of the fact that she chose to have her baby. What choices are there for someone from a pro-life, anti-choice family? Did Sarah think that having an unwed pregnant teen daughter would hurt her chances to get the nod for the VP spot? Once Bristol made that "choice" (it was probably made for her), yes, every life is sacred. That trust does not stop with the birth of the child. Every life is sacred should be the motto for the rest of the child's life. And, sorry, Bristol, but we've seen your reality shows, and we read the letter that you wrote to Melissa Rivers saying that Tripp was a handful that you couldn't manage. If life is that important to you, why don't you spend some time learning how to lead your own life and stop telling other people how to lead theirs?
ReplyDeleteWe may need new laws to redefine abortion rights as a woman's 'stand your ground' defense AGAINST the fetus. Maybe that's a concept the anti-choice/pro-gun nuts will understand.
ReplyDeleteSo when a women needs an abortion and is shot by a terrorist to stop her from getting one,it will be "Stand Your Ground" defense. Nice.
ReplyDeleteSheesh. (head shake)
ReplyDeleteHow come, when asked how they like their eggs, not ONE of the anti Abortion folks reply "Fertilized and Armed"? These folks have gone off the deep end dreaming up these gun toting fetus fantasies to make a moot point.
ReplyDeleteIt's a dangerous thing when they want to pass laws that would legally allow them to MURDER ABORTION PROVIDERS...THAT ..is what this is all about.
ReplyDeleteThey are getting more than JUST lunatic now.
