Conservative blogger, supporting Tea party candidate, breaks into nursing home where opponent's wife lives and takes picture for attack video.

Courtesy of TPM:

I'm inclined to say this is what happens when you've got a Tea Party candidate who dabbles in neo-confederate and supremacist politics. But boy is this one weird and dirty. Here are the key facts. Incumbent Sen. Thad Cochran's wife has been in a nursing home for more than a decade. Precise details are sketchy but she appears to suffer from some form of advanced dementia and is in precarious health. The Tea Party candidate McDaniel has been dishing out an avalanche of oppo over recent days including a very weird article in Breitbart which in the guise of talking about spending on congressional trips was clearly intended to suggest that Cochran is having an affair.

But now things have gotten really dark and weird (yes, we're on a very relative scale here.) A pro-McDaniel blogger, Clayton Thomas Kelly, was just arrested for breaking into the nursing home where Cochran's wife lives, videotaping her and then posting the video. Remember, this is an elderly woman who I'm told is in a fairly advanced vegetative state. So in addition to being a serious felony it is just ugly and awful in human terms.

So Kelly got arrested and obviously it's an embarrassment for the McDaniel campaign since he's a supporter, appears to have had some level of contact with the campaign if not necessarily a relationship and seems to have been trying to advance (in a colossally weird and immoral way) the same wife/aide something something something story the McDaniel campaign has been pushing with the reporters.

But here's where it gets dicey for the McDaniel campaign and where Cochran's supporters have pounced. It's pretty clear they knew the details of what happened before the news of what happened became public - mainly because McDaniel's campaign manager called her counterpart to commiserate and distance McDaniel from the incident. McDaniel himself also seems to have told reporters he'd only just learned of the story when his campaign manager had said he'd been bummed about it since he heard about it the night before.

Of course the McDaniel camp denies having any advanced knowledge of this break in:

"The McDaniel campaign found out about the break in when a local political blog posted about it at 11:40 p.m. last night," McDaniel spokesman Noel Fritsch said in a statement Saturday afternoon. "Senator McDaniel has denounced the break-in and called Senator Cochran to extend his condolences. It is unconscionable for the Cochran campaign and the liberal media to use the act of a sick individual to lob despicable accusations."

Yeah just because your campaign manager offers condolences about a blogger breaking into your opponent's wife's nursing home before the police release a public statement about it, doesn't mean you knew about it ahead of time, or had anything to do with it, right?

You know I don't necessarily follow Mississippi primary races all that carefully, but it kind of dawned on me that the name Chris McDaniels sounded kind of familiar.

Guess why:

Governor Sarah Palin today announced her endorsement of Chris McDaniel, Republican candidate for U.S. Senate in Mississippi, in his bid to unseat six-term incumbent Senator Thad Cochran.

“I am truly humbled that Governor Palin has honored my request for her to join my campaign in this fight for liberty in Mississippi,” said McDaniel of the endorsement.

Damn, that Palin curse is one nasty bitch.

That she is. And McDaniel not knowing about it is like Christie not knowing about the bridge. Bet. ME.

  2. I suspect Kelly is now like a dog sprayed by a skunk; not a friend in the world.

Remember that, you little conservative nimrods and James O’Keefe wanabees. We hate you, and you’re not smart enough on your own.

    Oh good dog!

Is it a surprise Palin picked the racist who looks like he keeps
a couple of hoods in his closet for special occasions?

    Good pick Sarah.

I don't think most people would begrudge Thad Cochran's having a relationship with another woman when the woman he loves, his wife, is no longer here in any substantive way. The man deserves companionship and love, because life goes on and he isn't dead. If he's finding solace in another woman, at least she is an appropriate age for him. This doesn't mean he loves his wife any less. Her dementia is a tragedy for him and his family, and anyone who would attempt to make political points out of this is despicable.

And kudos to him for not divorcing her!

If Rove is asking for Hillary's Medical records, Sarah Palin had better stay away from that battle. Sarah does not want anybody to scrutinize her Medical records, there is too much to hide.

Her medical records is only one reason Sarah Palin will never run for public office.

But I thought she cleared all those questions up with note from her Doctor?

As despicable infringing on an ill woman's privacy is, isn't the timing of Sarah's endorsement announcement suspicious?
Almost two months ago to the day. Something tells me Sarah wanted more information and paid this blogger with postage. Love love love the braying donkey photo at the bottom!

Not a big Cochran fan here, but he's always been a pretty decent Repub and in no way imaginable a left-leaning Republican. But the Baggers always have to insert that throwaway line about the leftist or "librul media". This is TeaBagger politics, and it only appeals to the lowest of the low-info scumbags. I'm glad they had their "supporter" busted.

The tea party should have a deranged Loony Bird as it's symbol.
Because sleazy birds of a feather flock together.
This is so sick and disgusting , none of these tea party creeps have any sense of decency.
    It's obvious that McDaniel,
who has posed for pictures with the freak in question ,
knew about the nursing home break in
and video which was originally posted on April 26.
They also knew when it was subsequently taken down.
    Long before the arrest.
McDaniel's campaign official is dissembling and contradictory and all over the place.
"Scott Brewster, coalition director for McDaniel's campaign, suggested to the Clarion-Ledger
that he knew of the video,
though he left the timing unclear.

"I do remember when it came out," ( April 26 )
    Mr. Brewster said.
"I think people made some phone calls [to have it removed]. I didn't personally – nobody personally talked to [Kelly].
I don't know if anybody made phone calls about it.
    I'm not sure.
Just, I remember all of a sudden it was gone."
So..the McDaniel's campaign was happy to have the video on the internet and only apologized,
    once their moron was arrested.
McDaniel , despite claiming he didn't know the sicko,
has apparently given him a one on one interview
I wonder what handle this weirdo goes by at the pee pond?

I've tried and tried but I just don't GET it ...

HOW COULD ANYONE believe that posting that video of Mrs. Cochran would be GOOD for McDaniel's campaign???

I mean, it's so OBVIOUSLY a detestable (not to mention criminal) thing to do there's simply NO way it could ever have been spun to McDaniel's benefit.

And while there's no shred of evidence (yet) that Palin was involved. it IS a new LOW in tone-deaf political messaging and every bit as sickening as Sarah's sociopathic "blood libel" tirade in response to Gabby Giffords' shooting.

Why would anyone give a shit if a dude with a wife who has been in a nursing home for ten years is dating another woman? Why would that even be an issue?

    ReplyDelete
  15. This dude is really scary, even for Mississippi! This is the first time I will vote for a Republican, Thad Cochran, because Chris McDaniel is just too dangerous and I know that if there is a Democrat running they won't win. Democrats never win here. I have to pick my battles verrrrrry carefully in Mississippi.

Time for an update? Never posted a Breitbart link before, but The McDaniel campaign manager knew about the video of Cochrae's wife back in April and aked the blogger to take down the video. Which he did.

    www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2014/05/18/McDaniel-Campaign-Asked-Arrested-Blogger-To-Take-Video-Down-In-Late-April

"On Saturday, April 26, at 8:54am, Melanie Sojourner, campaign manager for Mississippi state senator Chris McDaniel’s primary challenge of Sen. Thad Cochran (R-MS), sent an irate email.

“Someone has created a video about Thad and Kay,” Sojourner wrote in the email, a partially redacted version of which was provided to Breitbart News. “It must come down ASAP. Does anyone know where this came from?”"

Why don't these R's ever figure out that hanging out with "sick individuals" isn't necessarily a good thing?
