The day after deadly shooting California Republican sends out robo-call reinforcing his pro-gun stance.

Courtesy of Raw Story:

A California Republican touted his commitment to Second Amendment rights and support from pro-gun groups a day after a deadly shooting rampage in a recorded phone call made to voters.

A spokesman for Tony Strickland, who is running for the state’s 25th congressional district, said the robocall was scheduled before a 22-year-old killed seven people and wounded seven others Friday night in Isla Vista.

The calls, which pointed out that Strickland was a founding member of the NRA Member Council and former California Rifle and Pistol Association Legislator of the Year, were made Saturday to voters outside of Los Angeles.

“Tony has been a longtime supporter of the rights of citizens to keep and bear arms and will continue to oppose, and actively fight, any legislation that would take away our Second Amendment right to bear arms,” the call stated. “As the founder of the Freedom Firearms Coalition and with a lifetime ‘A’ rating from the NRA, we can count on Tony Strickland to protect our constitutional rights.”

The problem with gun violence in this country is NOT due to the fact that there is not enough money spent on helping those with mental health issues, though in fact there is not. It is that there are simply too many Goddamn guns on the streets, and they are MUCH too readily available, to ANYBODY, regardless of why they may want to purchase them.

To put it simply, you can shoot somebody to death whether you are mentally ill, too drunk to make rational choices, to angry to think clearly, or too young to know what you are doing.

But you CANNOT shoot somebody to death if you do not have a gun with which to do it.

THAT should be the focus for keeping us safe.

And insensitive, asshole politicians like this one, do nothing but exacerbate the problem.

Thank you for posting this, Gryphen. I am so tired of the NRA stupidity, that it is refreshing to read your sound logic after falsehoods the teeny wienies claim as truth. Spot on, sir!

Ok, WHAT is the obsession with Hawaii in Alaska? I understand the need for sunshine when summer is so short where you live, but, as I am living in Alaska for the summer, I just met a girl, about 21, who has a 3 year old who's been to Hawaii a dozen times. 12 times or so!!!!!! 12!!! TWELVE!!!!

WTF. I LIVED in Maui for 6 months and I think Alaskans know the island better than me.

bah, they go to Hawaii for the cooler weather. Last summer was a stinker in AK.

We go to Hawaii in the winter. Alaska is a bummer from November through the end of January and it's nice to have an alternative to the cold and dark. Many of us work seasonal jobs and have condos in Hawaii that we rent out in the summer months and then use ourselves for the 4 months of winter. It's only a 5 hour plane ride to paradise!

There is no place I'd rather be than Alaska from April through October, but these old bones are getting weary of Alaskan winters!

Mentally Deranged Sandy Hook “Truther” Provides Photos of Stolen Memorial Signs (IMAGES)

Every time one of these horrific mass shootings happen, these Alex Jones worshiping chuckleheads should be taken to the crime scenes and forced to clean up all of the carnage after the police investigators are finished with their business. Let him see for himself if it is a “false flag” or not. Let’s see if they can really make a “truth” out of it.

A man called Lynn McDonnell, mother of Grace McDonnell, one of the innocent children murdered in Sandy Hook. The still-grieving mother was told by the caller that he was on to her — that her child had never existed and was that she was merely part of the elaborate cover-up that was the Sandy Hook school shooting. This came just last week when the same person stole a sign placed at a memorial playground honoring Grace McDonnell.

Recently, The Daily Banter, through tips of their own, were sent emails by a “Mark Felt” detailing a slew of offensive, infuriating images of stolen Sandy Hook signs. Also with the emails were pictures of a Chase Kowalski placard that he claims came from the boy’s own memorial playground, which is located in New Jersey.

These pictures are offensive, and they will anger you.

It makes me weep, as an attorney who's closely read the history of the Second Amendment --- and its origins in English common law -- that the meaning of "the right to keep and bear arms" has been hijacked by misfits, rogues, and cowboys into a "right" to own and carry semi-automatic firearms.
These wild-west wannabes are endangering the civic health of our great nation.

Now the chicken Palin can come out with her Facebook spiel. Bristol needs a semi-automatic to save Tripp from a stalker.

Track is busy guarding the compound arsenal and he can't help his frontier sister, she is on her own to save Tripp.

The boy's roommates were stabbed, clearly without warning. They'd lived with him all year. Why would they have guns at the ready in their own home?

As for at least one of the victims, have you seen the security footage of him walking into a convenience store nanoseconds before the Rodgers man drove by and shot randomly into the store, missing several people but killing the Martinez boy.

Where would this Kincannon scum recommend that
"any son" of his would be able to "shoot back"?

And what about women who were killed?

Or the man in the movie theater? Etc.

These macho pigs have stolen our Constitution.

Actually, the evil scum gun fetishists really did blame the little first graders at Sandy Hook for not "tackling" the shooter. According to the vile "National Review," a right wing hate sheet & online version, claimed that anti-bullying programs in U.S. schools have "feminized" kids, making them into wimps. Thus said the demonic pig fucker of the National Review.

$arah Palin would be wise (yeah RIGHT) to remember that her precious Ronald Reagan took away funding for the mentally ill. He was no hero.

I fought for help for my sons for years in his teens and there was none. Nothing short of a miracle he's still alive. Strickland, Palin, and those like them can STFU. Richard Martinez spoke for me, who continues the battle to this day.

Tony wants the nutjob in your neighborhood and near your kid's school to have high-capacity rapid fire assault weapons because Tony has no clue what the Constitution means.

Tony Strickland is a lowlife schmuck.

The father of Christoper Michaels-Martinez, Isla Vista massacre victim, is not going away and he is a brilliant articulate human being.

Richard Martinez: A criminal defense attorney in Santa Maria, Martinez said he isn’t ready to talk in specifics about what changes he will push for, although he has ideas and expects to do that in the future.

“This is a complicated problem,” he said, “It’s a mental health problem, it’s a gun violence problem and it’s a problem of violence against women. My family is not going to forget that he originally was targeting young women. I think something has to be said about that.”

A man in Stockton, California allegedly fired eight rounds from a 9mm handgun at three women who refused to have sex with him and his friends.

According to Stockton Police, the women had accompanied the three men to their home around 1:45 a.m. Saturday morning. The men asked to have sex with them, but the women refused. At that point, Stockton Police Department Public Information Officer Joseph Silva told ThinkProgress, the men demanded that the women immediately leave, and as they were doing so, one of the men opened fire.

The suspected gunman, Keith Binder, is believed to have fired eight rounds at the women, but none of them hit their intended target. The women took shelter in a nearby Buffalo Wild Wings, where they called the police.

Officer Silva said that all three women told the same story, and added that a security guard in a nearby building also contacted police after he heard the shot.

Binder and his associates — known to police only as “Little D” and “Little Eggy” — have not been located, but police are actively searching for them.

This incident occurred mere hours after Elliot Rodgers went on a murderous rampage because, as he claimed in his manifesto, women refused to have sex with him.

Breitbart contributor blames deadly shooting spree on sex education and hippies

Conservative blogger Warner Todd Huston wrote Saturday on the Wizbang blog that the mass shooting – which left seven dead and seven others wounded in Santa Barbara, California – served as “yet another example of how college is fast become a detriment to this country instead of a positive force.”

  17. I first met Tony Strickland when he was an side to a conservative state rep. He was an anti- public education idiot back then- and had recently graduated from public high school. He and his wife run for office periodically, and he has moved twice just to be in an open district. He's running to replace the retiring Buck McKeon, having changed his mind a few months ago about running in a district that would be more competitive- the district he actually lives in. So he's moving to run in an easier district. Yes, he's still an idiot.

Strickland doesn't care about anyone who is a part of this tragedy. It won't change his opinion about guns and the people who own them. I think it's perfect that the robo-candidate went ahead and sent out his pro-massacre robo-calls. Not to have done it would mean he is a hypocrite. He loves guns, he doesn't care about murders with guns. Stand your ground Strickland, you selfish idiot.
