Turning foreign exchange students into slave labor by threatening to have them deported. Just things Christian Bible School presidents do.

Courtesy of The State:

Reginald Wayne Miller, the president and founder of Cathedral Bible College, is not allowed to set foot on the college campus in Marion or communicate with any of the school's current or former foreign students as an investigation continues into allegations that Miller threatened to cancel foreign students' visas if they did not work long hours for little pay.

Those terms are part of a $250,000 secured bond that Magistrate Judge Thomas Rogers set for Miller during a detention hearing Friday in federal court. In addition, Miller will be on home detention and will be required to wear an electronic monitoring device.

"I don't think we've identified all of the potential victims yet," said Carrie Fisher, the assistant U.S. attorney prosecuting the case. Fisher said some victims may have already left the country and some may be former students who have yet to come forward. "Our investigation just started this week."

Miller, who wore shackles and orange prison garb at the hearing, did not speak except to tell Rogers that he understood and agreed to the bond requirements. His public defender, William Nettles, said Miller's friends and family will attempt to raise the money needed for bond. Miller also turned over his passport to court officials. He was still booked into the Florence County Detention Center as of Friday afternoon.

Agents with Homeland Security Investigations filed a criminal complaint against Miller this week saying they have probable cause to charge him with forced labor, a felony that carries a maximum prison sentence of 20 years for each count. Investigators say Miller forced foreign students to work at the campus and his personal residence for as little as $25 per week. Miller threatened to cancel the students' visas if they complained or didn't comply with his demands, according to an affidavit filed this week.

You know what continues to piss me off, is that people insist on believing that being an Atheist automatically makes you an immoral person, when there is so much evidence to suggest that it is Christians who seem to lack any sense of morality.

Of course if I were to suggest such a thing I would be completely unjustified in doing so, but that never stops those on the other side now does it?

And just how many young people sat it this man's feet while the preached to them about love, morality, and sin? Perhaps instead what they really learned was oppression, hypocrisy, and greed.

  1. My nephews attended a Christian (meaning 99.9% white, and 60% male) college, and none of them came out educated. But big, they hate liberals, minorities, and aren't too fond of women either. Why would someone from another country come here to go to "Bible College?"

  2. Guys like this have had power for too long, are corrupted, and have had little push back from the people around them. “They’re Christians; they have to be good,” say the little sheep.

Homeland Security is finally doing something I can appreciate. If they keep this up, I may become a fan.

Smarmy looking SOB will get off, then run for office. $carah will endorse him, since he is so "religious" Time to revoke all the tax exemptions from ALL religious institutions, until they are investigated thoroughly. Seems they are merely stepping stones into politics and a life of easy living at taxpayer expense. Look what it did for Huckerbee, he is now a millionaire. Pat Robertson tried running for president, thankfully the SANE voters shot him down. Here is a job opening for one of the "religious" PayMe's, president of a religious college. $carah, or Bristles would fit, if THIS guy made it!!

Why, oh why, am I not surprised this happened in SC?

You know, I have often wondered how much of this CRAP would happen if "religious institutions" were taxed as much as the rest of us normal people. (I am excluding the 1% because we all know Bush gave them the best tax rate they could POSSIBLY dream of!)

On the college's home page, it reads "The Key to our producing servants 'meet for the Masters use'".....

Does that mean they train foreign students how to become 1830s Southern slaves? Who would send their child to that college? I say close the school!

More heinous acts are committed by people hiding behind fake religion than any other. Why aren't his "followers" seeing through this slimey character? His family should have known what was going on. How many foreign students went back to their own countries with changed perceptions of religion in the US? What were his qualifications for this position at the school, or did he start it himself, I wonder? Televangelism next on his agenda, all appropriately contrite, ready to be forgiven for his indiscretions no doubt.

    1. They like to think God sends representatives to walk among us; it gives them a kind of hope and strength to endure life. They’re terrified of being left without a leader.

I hope he rots in jail for the rest of his life. His time would be well spent reflecting on why he is wearing an orange jumpsuit locked up in the federal pen.

    From link above -

"Miller has had a past run-in with law enforcement. In 2006, the Horry County Police Department charged Miller with lewdness and prostitution after Miller exposed himself to an undercover police officer in a bath house at Myrtle Beach State Park, according to a police report. Miller entered into a pre-trial intervention program and the charge ultimately was expunged."

Now why does that not surprise me?

Clearly this thug needs to drop his facade and spend some time pondering: "Even as you do it to the least of these you do it also to me," or something like that.

Actually... if you read the bible, it basically suggests that slavery is okay as long as you don't physically mistreat them.

So while this guy is a manipulative, sociopathic, blackmailing criminal choad who deserves to go to prison, "hypocrite" may not actually apply.

This guy should be a guest on Sarah's show. He's the perfect example of "American Exceptionalism", except he makes me want to apologize to the world for both their ignorance.

A bit late to the party here, but when I came to the US in 1976, I also was paid $25/week, and I was threatened with jail by the family of 'upstanding citizens' if I were to tell anyone that they were actually paying me that little. What they conveniently 'forgot' to tell me was that THEY would be the ones going to jail, not me...
