According to Hillary Clinton's new book she was asked by the Obama campaign to weigh in on Sarah Palin in 2008 and she refused. Oh really? Update!

Courtesy of US News:

Clinton also says she declined a request by the Obama campaign to attack Sarah Palin during the heat of the 2008 presidential contest, an anecdote that could resonate with women beyond Clinton’s Democratic base.

“After Palin was selected to be John McCain's running mate in 2008, Clinton wrote, "[The Obama camp] immediately issued a dismissive statement and reached out to me in hopes I would follow suit. But I wouldn't. I was not going to attack Palin just for being a woman appealing for support from other women. I didn't think it made political sense, and it didn't feel right. So I said no..."

Okay look I remember that there was more than a little tension between Hillary and Obama in 2008, after he defeated her for the nomination, but that does not really excuse this in my opinion.

Sarah Palin went around the country inciting racism, spreading lies, and agitating the the most ignorant right wing fringes in the country. If Hillary could have put a stop to that back in 2008, it would have been her patriotic duty to do so.

And she would not have had to "attack" Palin, all she would have had to do is to state that the idea that those who supported her would support ANY candidate just because they were female demonstrates how little the Republican party understands, and respects the voters in this country.

After such a statement the press would have been all over it and it might have gone a long way to minimizing the long lasting damage that Palin and her puppet masters have managed to cause in this country since 2008.

You know I support Hillary for a presidential run in 2016, she is clearly the best candidate available, however sometimes I just wish she wasn't so coldly calculating in everything that she does.

Kind of disappointed by this.

Update:  For those who are uncertain that the Obama campaign asked Hillary to weigh in, or that she refused to do so, the story is given some more credibility by a New York Times article from September 4, 2008 entitled "Obama Camp Turns to Clinton to Counter Palin."

Here is the pertinent portion:

Senator Barack Obama will increasingly lean on prominent Democratic women to undercut Gov. Sarah Palin and Senator John McCain, dispatching Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton to Florida on Monday and bolstering his plan to deploy female surrogates to battleground states, Obama advisers said Thursday.

The article goes on to say that Clinton herself had some previous commitments and would not be available to act as a surrogate, which in her book she suggests might have simply been an excuse.

It must be remember that this was the day after Palin's speech at the Republican convention, which impressed almost everybody.

It makes sense that the Obama administration was taken a little off guard and searching for some way to interrupt the momentum that the McCain campaign enjoyed immediately following her introduction.

In fact it was this rush to figure out Palin's strengths ans weaknesses that drove people to the Alaska blogs in droves. Most people, including the Obama administration, had no fucking idea who this person was.

But we did.

And we knew she was a flash in the pan and would wither under increased scrutiny,

However Hillary did not know that, and I think she really should have provided more assistance to our future President. Besides if she had undermined Palin  back then it might have saved all of us a lot of headaches these past five and half years.

I agree. On September 4, 2008 the country was falling in love with her- She hadn't -, as of yet - shown her moral ignorance, incited the 'kill him' comments from the crowd or (if memory serves) outed her daughter as being pregnant and unwed.

In fairness, none of us in the lower 48 knew Palin's venomous nature less than a week after being presented to the public as an educated, successful governor and mother of four.

Fresh off the primary merry-go-round Hillary Clinton had every right to show no allegiance to the then Senator Barack Obama.

Once $carah opened her mouth, the glow started to fade - FAST. It was obvious to anyone with half a brain that she was not the person the McCain camp was trying to project. What galls me is that even today McCain will not admit what a huge mistake he made. Not vetting someone he knew nothing about was a serious blunder.

I really want a woman president, way overdue, however, while I will vote for her, I am so not ready for the right to do their normal attack on the Clintons. She is a moderate too more than a progressive but I think she can handle the pressure and naysayers.

I'm not a huge Hillary supporter, for a number of reasons, including that, as a feminist, I would really rather see the first woman president be someone who gets there on her own, not on her husband's coat tails. And I actually think her age and health are legitimate issues, just as they were for McCain in '08. And then there is the polarization thing. But short of having had a stake to drive into the heart of the undead, there's nothing she could have said or done that would have made a fuzzy bit of difference for Palin's political trajectory. Heck, the wingnuts might have embraced Palin that much more fiercely, had Hillary come out against her.

What's true is that even a blind man could have seen what Sarah Palin was - and what John McCain was - and there really wasn't any necessity for Hillary to lower herself to breathe one word about Sarah Palin. Palin dug her own grave all by herself by showing the American people who she really is; she didn't need Hillary's help.

I agree, she's given to exaggerating, now isn't she.

I don't believe for a second that Barack Obama asked her to 'attack' Palin, he's much too classy for that. I think that SHE was in that attack mode, still, even after she had abandoned her campaign, and she heard through her own interpretation, NOT what she was probably being asked, which was to put Sarah in her place. Barack just isn't that petty. He doesn't play those games. It's just not his style.

BUT, it IS Hillary's style. When she gets into a competitive campaign mode she's the least likeable in her behavior, from what I've seen. That being said, if it's her or one of those idiots on the right, like Cruz or Paul, she's got my vote. If someone else comes along on the Democratic side that I believe could beat the GOP candidate, I would strongly consider that. I agree with Gryphen,

'I just wish she wasn't so coldly calculating in everything that she does. Kind of disappointed by this.'

but she's a frickin' saint next to the other side.

Not sure what you all want from Hillary...she is being truthful here, and I appreciate that. I also think that she WAS asked by the Obama campaign to do what she said...that did not necessarily come from Obama, and he may not have known. He was pretty busy trying to beat McCain and convince a white America that he was the best for the job.
If Hillary was all motherly and sweet like Grandma, she would not be taken seriously. You can't have it both ways...I like that she is strong and speaks her mind without resorting to the childish screeches of a Sarah Palin or a Liz Cheney.

You choose to ignore the hours and hours of work he has put in with the CGI to help Obama address human trafficking and other global issues that are important to them both. You dismiss that and all the OTHER work that Clinton has done for humanitarian causes over the 20 years he has been out of office so you can dismiss him as a snake who is bitter over a lost election. For her to put this out there is not just disloyal to the administration that she was a major part of for four years, it really makes me question her motives. Not to mention which, the weaker Obama's presidency appears toward the end of his term in office, the harder a job the next Democratic presidential candidate will have to get elected. It's almost as if her husband wrote that chapter, for he obviously attempted to tank her campaign several times in 2008, and he just put her on the spot again recently re the seriousness of her head injury.

Palin is a snake in the grass, she hides well her real agenda. We in Alaska saw her working with Dems, but the reality is she was lazy and took the course of least resistance. She was not interested in tussling with legislators and made no effort to understand their districts’ needs. She kept to herself most of the time, but was exceptionally good at cheerleading for anything Alaska if it involved a camera. Todd Palin paid attention to most everyday governance and kept her staff apprised of her “mood.” She could be very disinterested and was mostly concerned with her ratings and has a very inflated belief in her abilities. She is charismatic, people respond to her folksiness. She is an actress. I used to wonder if she studied Ronald Reagan’s mannerisms while pursuing a communications degree. It would not surprise me in the least, he was known as the great communicator and she was always in awe of him.

Anyone who thought about the idea that a Hillary voter would switch to the Republican ticket because some obscure rabble rouser with a skirt was on it would wake up the next day and realize it wasn't worth pursuing the idea. At that point, the economy was nose-diving, and the Republicans lost any hope of winning anyway.

Michigan GOP’s ‘We Understand Women’ Photo-Op Goes Down In Flames

Michigan House Republicans jumped on Twitter to demonstrate they “understand women” and quickly proved how clueless they really are. Three GOP House Reps were photographed holding fashion magazines. Michigan Representatives Victory, Glardon and Pettalia smugly help up copies of “Women’ magazines”, and Representative Pettalia quipped “Don’t say we don’t understand women.” The three men smugly held up copies of fashion magazine in their attempts to appeal to female voters. One has to be pretty deeply immersed in misogynistic patterns of thought to think that the secret to securing more women voters is as simple a holding up a copy of Glamour magazine in front of camera.

Hey Gryphen, don't miss Bill tonight!

Bill Maher faced off with Christian conservative icon Ralph Reed on Real Time, challenging him on why adult humans suspend critical thinking to believe in “magic” and why they would cherish a tome that basically condones horrible acts like slavery and stoning.

They went back and forth over what’s to blame for America’s moral ills before Reed said that religion provides comfort and moral guidelines to people. Maher agreed, but said that religion is “just something people pulled right out of their ass.”

Maher argued that religion has done much more bad in the world than good, and when Reed brought up homeless shelters and charities, Maher shot back, “But you can do those things without believing in magic.”

Maher then went down a list of things the Bible condones, like slavery, to make a point about how Biblical literalists aren’t really literalists. Reed attempted to explain off some of the more egregious passages, but Maher asked, “If the Bible’s a perfect book written by a perfect guy, why is this in there?”

Actually, Hillary was smart to not touch the third rail. Sarah thrives on playing the victim after growling, showing her teeth, and bullying from the pulpit. Hillary and Obama were candidates. Sarah's so far beneath them both, President Obama didn't need to mention her and still doesn't. Who do you think gave him that sage advice?
It WOULD have been WONDERFUL to expose the grifter's many skeletons, but in the long run President Obama risked the support of women and the optics of him doing nothing while Hillary made mincemeat of Sarah would have made him look weak.

Sarah's right where she belongs, an impotent menopausal grandmother who fights her demons, real and imagined on the facebook manifesto's polluted stream of consciousness (more like a trickle than a stream)

Hillary is a great poker player and will take every jab at her with grace or no comment. Can you imagine, she's thinking, "Yeah, told YOU, bitch," which is our jealous little queen in her head and how Hillary and Bill laugh. This is nothing extraordinary. All campaign advisers who pretty much make all the decisions keep tabs on the opposition and Sarah Palin was using dirty tricks and lied to sway on- the- fence voters. The Obama campaign needed to set the record straight. Even if they asked Hillary to put the ankle-biter Sarah to task, Sarah deserved it. She was the dirtiest player in any presidential election, virtually calling the opponent a terrorist.

    Nothing to see here.

As far as Hillary bringing this up in her book, it's politics; she's covering her tracks and promoting her loyalty to women, in case she runs.

The thing about this "gender equality" issue that you upchucked here for some reason, is that people have a hard time believing you really desire equality and respect among genders when you immediately state that men are all "dominating assholes." Now the case could be made for the meat of your argument but infantile name-calling doesn't make your case. People read stuff like that and immediately discount you as not serious. When you then veer off into some idiot babble about bloggers and how much they suck, then people realize you aren't really trying to make a case for anything, you're just a nutjob babbling about whatever comes to mind that pisses you off, which is most likely just about everything. I think you got this wrong Gryphen.

Hillary planned on winning the 2008 nomination, and count on it her staff and consultants had already been checking to see who the likely Republican women veep nominees were.

The Republican presidential nominee at that time was either Romney, McCain, Huckabee, Ron Paul, Giuliani or whoever threw their hat in and won the Republican nomination.

If Hillary was the Democratic candidate, then the Clinton campaign had to be ready for the Republicans to pick a woman for veep, just like they ended up doing with Sarah to run against Obama.

I believe that Hillary and Bill already knew Sarah had a bunch of loose screws and was a hateful fraud and shit stirrer. Just what you Alaskan bloggers already knew.

How long would it take to do a little opposition research on "America's Hottest Governor" and figure out things like:
    * five(!) colleges and probably no degree
    * no real job history
    * completely off the national radar until 2006 either because she was running stealthily under the radar... or maybe because she didn't deserve to be on the radar
    * oh yeah then someone might have noticed all the wingnut pundits writing about the cruises to Alaska...

" The cruises were sponsored by the National Review and the Weekly Standard, journals of significant influence in conservative circles. The ships disgorged some top conservative editors and writers, who on two occasions were invited at the governor's mansion. Almost to a man, they were thunderstruck.

What followed, once everyone returned to the lower 48, was a gusher of mush -- praise, love notes, sweet nothings and, altogether, the sort of mooning one does not usually hear from the likes of William Kristol, Fred Barnes, Rich Lowry, Dick Morris and my Post colleague Michael Gerson. In short order, important writers set themselves the task, in print and on television, of promoting Palin and, in the process, making perfect asses of themselves. They succeeded at both. "

    www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/10/27/AR2008102702438.html

So just ask yourself if you think the Clinton campaign didn't already have Sarah all figured out. Oh and then if Hillary was going to preserve her options to run for office in the future, why would she attack the Palin paper tiger? That makes no sense at all, at least until Palin has a chance to prove that the oppo research was correct.

I found this blog in 2008 when I started doing google searches on SP. I lived in Alaska at the time and was a bit shocked when SP was suddenly running for VP. The thing with Troopergate was going on and I thought it was surprising she was selected when that controversial thing was happening. Truthfully I didn't know a whole lot about her at the time and to be honest I'm embarrassed to say I supported her knowing the little I did. There was one little thing that raised a red flag with me one day during that time when I was listening to a local radio show and the hosts called SP at home. Piper answered and they started asking her all kinds of personal questions. I could hear SP in the background saying something like "Piper, it's time for school!" and then she took the phone and started laughing, giggling and talking to them like no big deal. I wondered what kind of a mother who was now suddenly in the national spotlight let her very young daughter answer the phone and start giving an interview to who knows who, much more on public radio. That's when the light bulb went off for me and I thought "could this woman be somewhat of a kook?" I found Immoral Minority and other Alaska blogs and the rest is history. I soon found out she was more than just a kook, she was pathological. Thank you Alaskan bloggers!

I never thought she had a shot in a three way race in the general with two accomplished, popular candidates. I felt Sarah belonged only to the Valley, but she surprised us all. She had a reputation in Dillingham for not liking Natives, and her policies showed it, her and Todd's redacted emails would have shown it. I was equally stunned, and disgusted, when McCain picked her and knew this country was in for a world of hurt. The woman didn't even have the guys to fire her top cop in person, and she wants to answer that 3 a.m. call.

What kind of mother? A mother who never grew up. Sarah Palin is emotionally and intellectually still in the eighth grade. That giggle is telling. And, don’t believe for a second she had no idea Piper was being interviewed, she knew and she approved. It is similar to the interview Bristol did after she gave birth and Palin entered the room ostensibly out of breath and seemingly confused about what was going on. She knew and she approved. Her children are her lead-in props. It is totally bizarre behavior and any emotionally intelligent mother would never choose to let their children be exposed and used in that manner. But, this is Sarah Palin the drama queen. In Bailey’s book he wrote about how during the campaign for governor she ruminated with him about how cool it would be to be pregnant as governor. He was trying to tell the reader about the lengths she will go to create drama to feed her narcissistic personality.

I'm not a troll. Just because I don't like Hillary, it doesn't make me a troll. I'm a Dem and I can't stand the Psycho from Wasilla. So what I misspelled Hilary, it happens.

She's hoping the republicans take over congress & which means more gridlock for Obama. That will give her opportunity to win. Nvmnd Americans need help w/Obama's agenda. She's selfish.

In 2008 I chose Barack Obama as the candidate I would support. I was very disappointed with the Clintons then and I doubt I will ever get past those feelings. I'll pull the lever for Hillary but I will never feel the loyalty and respect for her that I feel for the current president. I think we will witness his total & complete support for Hillary if she opts to run. I never felt the Clintons truly gave all in their support for President Obama. I believe him to have a stronger character than either of the Clintons.

They didn't at ALL, which is why I was surprised when he chose her to be SOS. But I still don't understand why Esther hasn't been banished to a remote island never to be heard from again either. I'm sick of all of it.

The Palin Dildo Troll is back. Hey, Troll, Bristol needs

Personally I think Hillary made the right move. If she had of attacked Palin for anything it would have just brought her down to the dingbat's level. Then Sarah would have taken the opportunity to play victim even more. Best that Hillary just didn't say ANYthing about Palin.

"In Bailey’s book he wrote about how during the campaign for governor she ruminated with him about how cool it would be to be pregnant as governor. "

    ????

How can Sarah Palin get pregnant while she is the governor of Alaska?

    1. Didn't Sarah have a tubal ligation after Per was born?

    2. Curt M. died in an airplane crash and is no longer with us.

    3. According to Shailey Tripp, Todd was too busy banging Shailey so he didn't have time to impregnate Sarah.

    4. Don't think Todd had any sperm to impregnate Sarah. According to Shailey, Todd took his condom containing sperm wrapped in a face cloth with him and I guess he threw it out the window on his way back to Wasilla.

  61. I don't think it would have helped to have Clinton go after Palin at that time.

Hillary had just come out on the losing end of a bitterly fought primary. Palin and the republicans would have turned it into a "poor loser picking on the (successful) woman still in the race" scenario. And the idiot media would have gone along with the narrative.

At that time, although it had become evident to anyone with a brain that Palin was in no way competent to be VP, she was still getting a lot of fawning attention for everything she said. In other words, the media still took her seriously. She was, after all, a sitting governor.

If anything, in the excerpt printed, Clinton doesn't have much to say about Palin herself and is actually dismissive of her: "I was not going to attack Palin just for being a woman appealing for support from other women. I didn't think it made political sense..."

In other words, Palin wasn't picked for her brillance, experience, skills, talent, or anything else that mattered. And it wasn't necessary to go after her to ensure a Democratic win; Palin just wasn't going to make that big a difference.

At this time, there is no reason whatsoever for Clinton, Obama, or anyone else to acknowledge the utterly worthless braying banshee Palin.

"The Undefeated"? No thanks, I'm not into John Wayne movies nor stupid whiners who steal the title for an ego stroking exercise in stupidity. But thanks for being so proud to let people know you're a sucker!!
