Goods guy with a gun, kills bad ex-wife and new boyfriend, in front of 100 good people who did nothing.

Courtesy of Raw Story:

An Illinois man reportedly fatally shot his ex-wife and her new boyfriend at a high school reunion in East Peoria over the weekend before being killed by an off-duty FBI officer.

WEEK reported that 33-year-old Lori A. Moore and her boyfriend, 36-year-old Lance E. Griffel, (pictured, above) were at The Fifth Quarter Sports Bar and Pizzeria on Saturday, when 40-year-old Jason A. Moore walked in and shot them both in the head at pointblank range.

Lori Moore was there to attend her reunion for East Peoria Community High School Class of 1999. More than 100 attendees witnessed the shooting.

According to the New York Daily News, an off-duty FBI officer shot and killed Jason Moore.

“It’s very difficult to say. You can play the ‘what if’ game over and over again, but I think it’s pretty clear in his case the presence of this officer and his ability to take very quick and very decisive action prevented a further tragedy,” East Peoria Police Chief Ganschow explained.

Lori Moore and her boyfriend were pronounced dead at OSF St. Francis Hospital several hours after the shooting.

The NRA will tell you repeatedly that access to guns keeps us safe, but I think we all know that the VAST number of gun deaths are muhc like this one, the result of a crime of passion, or an accident, or simply somebody angry at the world who kills for no discernible reason.

Of course we can never make and absolute determination as to how many people are killed by guns, and for what reason, becasue the NRA has been actively blocking efforts by the CDC to gather that data.

Which is odd if in deed they were confident in their belief that guns keep us safe, don't you think?

Unless it's a police officer, how many shootings are stopped by good citizens that just happened along carrying their guns?

Nobody goes to a reunion or Walmart expecting to have someone open fire on them, at least not sane people.

It's always unexpected.Sadly, the more of these incidents that happen, the more people realize we need to control who has access to weapons. It won't stop all of them, but it helps. Every little bit helps.

Notice in the vid (RawStory) the guy says something like DV situations are emotional and sometimes someone snaps...ummm again, how did this fuck get a gun?
The cop SAID it was a DV situation... HOW DID HE GET A GUN?
See thanks to the NRA Women are targets of ASSHOLE exhusbands "If I can't have her no one can" mindset. B/c the NRA tells them its their FUCKING RIGHT to HAVE A GUN to KILL SOMEONE!
I'm really getting sick of this shit and Congress better tighten up gun laws, make mandatory ins. extensive Background checks, EXTENSIVE! DV counts as a emotional issue as this cops says "sometimes someones snaps"??? Well when he snaps Don't Give him a fucking gun!!!

Have any of these monsters survived to go to trial? Seems to me they all kill themselves or get killed by a cop. Pity we don't get to see a trial and then a life in jail. Maybe that would stick with some of the gun nuts and change them? Nah, probably not. But, I find it disturbing that all the monsters seem ready to die and just want to make sure they aren't the only ones to die.

I think it outstanding they kill themselves or a cop does! That way we don't have to pay to keep them in jail (w/all the amenities!) for life! They are much better off in Hell!

I had just read the attached article before checking back here. And found it to be poignant, especially with the top of the newsfeed now expressing another gun violence post.

From the CDC - The "vast number" (61%) of gun deaths are people taking their own lives. Accidents are 3%.

This is a non-gang related firearm homicide. Those account for about 7% of gun deaths. included in that percentage are mass killings. While it is tragic that 2200 people die every year from non gang homicides, the facts don't support the statement that the VAST majority of gun deaths are represented by this tragedy.

    1. From Politifact (data are from 2009):

      Suicide: 18,735 deaths
      Homicide: 11,493 deaths
      Unintentional: 554 deaths
      Legal interventions: 333 deaths
      Undetermined: 232 deaths

So, another way to look at this is excluding suicides, the overwhelming majority of gun deaths are by violent homicide.

And personally I'd love to see strict gun controls to reduce the number of suicides by gun.

I guess - although excluding the vast majority of a data set doesn't really let you analyze it with intellectual honesty. As for the murders (not quite sure what a "non-violent homicide" might be, gang violence accounts for 80% of the gun murders. Don't know what strict gun control is going to do for those.

I guess i'd rather people slit their wrists, used drugs or CO poisoning to kill themselves but I can't say i'd "love" it.

    3. It is perfectly reasonable to look at homicides separately from intentional self killings (suicides).

And your gang violence statistic is incorrect:

"r. There were 1,824 gang-related killings in 2011. This total includes deaths by means other than a gun. The Bureau of Justice Statistics finds this number to be even lower, identifying a little more than 1,000 gang-related homicides in 2008. In comparison, there were 11,101 homicides and 19,766 suicides committed with firearms in 2011." (Huffington Post).

And gang related homicides versus other homicides are a distinction without a difference. Rational gun laws would reduce homicides. And suicides by gin. And accidental shootings.

I'd like to see suicides reduced. I'd love it, actually. Unfortunately you can't just get your stomach pumped after shooting yourself in the head.

    4. Also, homicide includes, but is not limited to, murder.

There are too many guns and too many gun deaths in our country. It is madness.

Video: Open Carry activist’s encounter with cops, literally waves his penis, talks of a revolution

Police reports and recordings show a tense 40-minute encounter with a belligerent, rifle-toting man, who seems to like to literally wave his penis around while holding his gun in Michigan. I guess waving the Gadsden flag is out now.

The records show that in May, Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officers responded to multiple reports of a man, possibly intoxicated, carrying a rifle. You see, in spite of what Open Carry Texas members feel, the public is typically unnerved by the site of an asshole strutting around with a rifle.

...Houseman then began to talk of a coming revolution, and called police officers “gang members” with a “history of violence.” (Let me know when this sounds a lot like Open Carry Tarrant County members to you.)

...At one point Houseman is across the street from Gordon and is seen grabbing his genitals and making lewd gestures toward the officer. Eventually a trained SWAT negotiator arrived on the scene, with 12 other officers already there. Traffic had to shut down in both directions. The cops realize this man is an Open Carry activist whom they’ve dealt with previously.

Houseman still refused to comply and give his name.

Right-Wing Christians Take It To a New Low By Handing Out Guns In Churches

...Last month at the Lone Oak First Baptist church in Paducah, Kentucky, a line of people wrapped around the building waiting anxiously to get inside, but not because they sought spiritual guidance from Jesus Christ’s teachings, but to win one of the twenty-five guns being raffled off. One may be inclined to think Lone Oak First Baptist is an aberration among churches purported to be “followers of Christ,” but according to the Kentucky Baptist Convention, handing out human-killing weapons is the best way to get people into church. Last year there were at least 50 “Christian” church gun giveaways in Kentucky alone, and an official at Lone Oak Baptist said handing out free guns is a rallying point to bring people to Christ.

The NRA is brainwashing and desensitizing these people by repeating the lie over and over again. I understand there ARE responsible gun owners who truly get it, but we don't hear their voices. We have a big problem with straw purchases from other states. None of these guns are registered, yet make it into the hands of those who shouldn't be near them in the first place.
A woman and a man are dead because they were going to a reunion? What's next?
