Sheri Few, one of eight Republican candidates for superintendent of education, said Tuesday in a GOP primary debate that she opposed the Next Generation Science Standards and believed that intelligent design should be taught alongside the theory of evolution.
“In regard to the evolution issue, I have to say that that is one of the problems with our education system today, and it is one of the problems that has been brought to light through the problems with the Common Core standards,” she remarked. “Children are not receiving an objective education.”
“There is plenty of science and research behind the theory of intelligent design, and yet it is not allowed in the classroom,” Few added.
“There is no reason why the scientific theory of intelligent design should not be taught in the classroom alongside the theory of evolution, and that way children would receive an objective education and they could also — for Christian children — could point to their God though the theory of intelligent design. Children need to have an objective education.”
There is NOTHING scientific about Intelligent Design, which is just a new name for Creationism, and anybody ignorant enough to think there is needs to be kept far away from the public school system.
If South Carolina wants to protect their children from superstitious nonsense they need to send this woman packing.
Obviously she has not watched "Cosmos" even though it was on a Fox channel.
ReplyDeleteBeaglemom
Someone better ask her for the scientific studies that prove intelligent design, and Ken Ham's writings don't count.
ReplyDelete...and the insanity of Christianists continues as unabated as that of all the other "Religulous" fanatics...

ReplyDeleteShe does not have a college degree.
She can play Colonel Klink's secretary or Sgt. Schultz in drag for the next remake of Hogan's Heros?
DeleteWell, there's a ringing endorsement for her being the State Superintendent of Public Instruction.
DeleteI'm sure the ONLY reason she is running is to get Creationism and bible thumping in the public schools.
"...they need to send this woman packing."
ReplyDeleteAnd packing she will be if she chooses the awesome new 2015 Torso Millennia° P32 Labia Tu Madre!!! Deletefunny, thanks for the laugh to start off my day
Deletesorry, Sheri, but looking around and saying - wow, this is a big, complicated and scary universe and I can't understand science --is NOT evidence for intelligent design. It is however, evidence for your lack of intelligence.
ReplyDeleteSpearman appears to be the only sane one in the bunch: “As far as the state science standards, I believe that we have to teach accurate information to our students, and that involves factual texts, factual information,” said Molly Spearman, executive director of the South Carolina Association of School Administrators.
ReplyDelete“As a Christian, I have taken the responsibility to teach my own children at home about our special beliefs and the creation of the world, and I think that is the responsibility of parents to do that in their own home on religious beliefs,” she said.

More about Sheri Few:
ReplyDeleteSheri Few is the president of a South Carolina "non profit" (almost used the word con-profit!) "SOUTH CAROLINA PARENTS INVOLVED IN EDUCATION." That organization's IRS 990 tax filing for year 2011 shows it received $723,000 of state taxpayer dollars to promote abstinence education and advocate for education reform!
IT GETS WORSE!
$$$$$$$ Sheri Few claims that she had $74,333 land in her pocket as IRS reported compensation that year from her "non profit." KA F$CKING CHING! See page 7 at the first link below. $$$$$$$$$
I won't take the time to copy the typo ridden word salad explanation of what these abstinence ho science deniers and school deformers told the IRS about their activities to justify their GRIFTING about $3/4 of a million from the taxpayers of South Carolina. Just select 990 year 2011 at the link below and go to the second page for that hot mess of evangelical nutjobbery. I'd say they should be ashamed (Snowbilly Snookie would be proud to post this steaming pile on her facebook) but never mind...

Apparently the abstinence materials were partially developed by this woman herself.
"Healthy Image of Sex (HIS) is an abstinence-only-until-marriage curriculum for high school students which, according to its authors, “focuses on defining and refining terms related to sexual abstinence for students” (HIS, Teacher’s Manual, Curriculum Summary, unnumbered pages). This curriculum was written by Pamela L. Jones and Sheri Few, and is used in federally funded programs throughout the state of South Carolina."

http://www.communityactionkit.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=page.viewpage&pageid=1007
Here is another observation in the review:
"Educational Philosophy
Healthy Images of Sex, like many abstinence-only-until-marriage programs, is often billed as a sexuality education program, a teen pregnancy prevention program, or a sexually transmitted disease (STD) prevention program. This curriculum, however, would be better classified as a marriage education program. It focuses on marriage to the exclusion of most other topics and presents one set of beliefs on the topic as universally accepted truths. "
Who would be surprised that this "abstinence" program has that kind of slant. Wait Wait Don't Tell M... There are two versions? One for the "African- Americans" and one for the whites? It is South Carolina!
"The authors of HIS produced two versions of the curriculum. Version I is intended for an African- American audience, and the authors explain in the curriculum summary that “curriculum images and particular lessons are approached from this cultural perspective” (HIS, Teacher’s Manual Curriculum Summary, unnumbered pages). Version II is intended for an “ethnically diverse audience.”" (Quote from the review at link)
Oh, and there are online reports that this con-prof whoops "non-profit" and people involved with it have promoted Sheri Few's candidacies in newsletters and whatnot.

Why hasn't SarahPAC endorsed Sheri Few?
She doesn't know what a scientific theory is. She is typical of these type of folks ... if it is beyond their limited comprehension, it must be the workings of a sky daddy.
ReplyDeleteThere is NO science and research behind Intelligent Design.
ReplyDeleteI find it ironic those that tout Intelligent Design aren't intelligent at all.
But hey, South Carolina. That pretty much covers it.
Sheri Few. Perfect for she of few braincells.
ReplyDelete“There is plenty of science and research behind the theory of intelligent design, and yet it is not allowed in the classroom,” Hey Sheri, if it's in the Bible, it's not science and repeating a lie over and over again doesn't make it true. I smell the scent of nepotism that she's even considered Superintendent of Schools.
ReplyDeleteIt is 'Evolution Theory' (science fact) and not 'The Theory of Evolution' (which would suggest a hypothesis).
ReplyDeleteThis error causes many problems of understanding.
'Intelligent Design' as a science theory was proposed in the early 19th century by William Paley and did not may through that century, let alone through the 20th and into the 21st. Only a few native tribes yet to emerge from the jungle and the USA think that intelligent Design is scientific in any way.
