American special forces seized the suspected mastermind of the deadly Benghazi consulate attack in a weekend raid in Libya, a U.S. administration official said Tuesday.
Ahmed Abu Khattala has been wanted in the assault that killed Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans since shortly after the Sept. 11, 2012, attack. His capture marks the first apprehension of one of the alleged perpetrators in the attack.
Khattala was grabbed Sunday "in an extremely tightly held SOF (Special Operations Forces) operation," a U.S. official told NBC News.
According to one senior official, "There may be other shoes to drop."
I know what you're thinking, "Oh thank goodness, now with the capture of this guy the Right Wing can stop beating the Benghazi conspiracy drums and move on to something else.

This is only going to open up a whole new can of stale Benghazi worms, and the Righties are going to pick it apart like vultures pecking away at a rotting corpse.

A Fox News anchor suggested that President Obama captured one of the alleged architects of the September 2012 attack on the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi to boost Hillary Clinton’s presidential prospects.
Speaking on Fox News’ Outnumbered just moments after news broke that the United States had captured Ahmed Abu Khattala, Kennedy mused, “you have a former Secretary of State who is in the middle of a high profile book tour, I think this is convenient for her to shift the talking points to some of the things she has been discussing.”
The sentiment — that Obama timed Khattala’s capture for political benefit — was quickly echoed by other conservatives. Rory Cooper, an aide to House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, tweeted, “While it’s great to see they caught the Benghazi suspect, it’s important to remember, he wasn’t really hiding.”

Why Delta Force Waited So Long to Grab a Benghazi Ringleader

The mission to capture Ahmed abu Khatallah, one of the ringleaders of the September 11, 2012 attacks on the U.S. compound in Benghazi, Libya was more than a year in the making.
In the months leading up to the raid, teams from the Army’s 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta, or Delta Force, practiced the extradition on a mock up of abu Khatallah’s compound at Fort Bragg, according to a U.S. military contractor familiar with the planning for the mission. Eventually, it was a Delta Team with embedded FBI agents on Sunday that snagged the man wanted for the murder of Ambassador Chris Stevens, State Department officer Sean Smith and CIA contractors Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty.
The Obama administration has come under withering criticism because the whereabouts of abu Khatallah have been generally known. Journalists in Libya were able to interview him, critics asked, so why couldn’t American journalists track him down, too?
But other U.S. officials, who spoke to The Daily Beast anonymously because they were not authorized to talk to the press, said the mission to grab abu Khatallah had been planned for more than a year. Indeed, the Benghazi ringleader had been in the sights of Delta Force operators at the end of August, according to these sources, but no order was given at the time. A senior administration official told The Daily Beast that the delay in apprehending the suspect was due in part to requests from the Justice Department to gather appropriate evidence to prosecute him in criminal court.
The practice and patience paid off, apparently. Gen. Martin Dempsey, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said Sunday’s raid resulted in no casualties. A senior administration official told The Daily Beast that the Delta Force team was able to trick abu Khatallah into letting the team into the compound, allowing the special operations team to apprehend the suspect without a fight.

Whether it was Bret Baier or Greta Van Susteren asking the questions, Hillary Clinton looked at ease and like she was having fun batting away the conservative news network’s Benghazi, Bergdahl, and Iraq questions during the first half of the interview. At one point former Sec. Clinton suggested that Fox News viewers go to the State Department website and download the unclassified Benghazi report to get information themselves.
