Press secretary for House Republican arrested for carrying illegal firearm.

Rep. Tom "Please don't shoot me" Marino.

A House staffer was arrested Friday morning for carrying a gun into the Cannon House Office Building.

Ryan Shucard, press secretary for Rep. Tom Marino (R-Pa.), was arrested at about 9:15 a.m. Friday, according to U.S. Capitol Police Public Information Officer Shennell Antrobus.

Shucard has been charged with carrying a pistol without a license, which is a felony.

“Shucard entered the SE Door of the Cannon House Office Building. A S&W 9mm handgun & magazine were discovered during an administrative search required for entry into the building,” Antrobus said in a statement.

Shucard is currently being processed at the U.S. Capitol Police headquarters.

Bill Tighe, Marino's chief of staff, told The Hill that Shucard has been placed on unpaid leave until further notice.

Just in case you were wondering, Rep. Marino is just about as pro-gun as you can get.   However it looks like he has no plans to come to the defense of his staffer in this case.

Marino's chief of staff is curretly saying that he does not think that Shucard was planning anything nefarious with the handgun and that it was probably just an accident.

But one has to wonder how somebody, who is NOT part of law enforcement, places a gun on their person that then forgets about it before trying to enter a building guarded by security. After all handguns are not simply an accessory like cufflinks or a tie tack.

If I were Marino I might think about keeping this guy on unpaid leave for the duration.

I don't see why the rest of are subjected to the ever-presence of guns, but lawmakers who are in the pocket of the NRA, protect themselves with these security checks and ban guns from their building.

If open and/or concealed carry were allowed in the capitol building, then congress might possibly be encouraged to pass gun legislation more attuned to reality.

    1. EXACTLY!

They're happy to see unlimited guns wielded by idiots in YOUR workplace - as the Foundling Fathers and Jeebus intended - but not in THEIR workplace. Hypocrisy much?

When you get so accustomed to carrying a gun that you forget you have it on you, you are being way too careless with a lethal weapon.

Years ago, I dated a man who was a cop, whose brother was a cop, and whose father was a retired cop. They carried as part of their job and sometimes when off-duty. They NEVER forgot they were carrying a weapon!

What happened to Palin's appeals to help the Marine who made a mistake going into Mexico? Did she get him out of jail or did she quit again?

It will be a fun packed week in Colorado. Those cons know how to put on a show.

A person would have to be pretty stupid in Washington DC to carry an unlicensed weapon concealed.

It's a serious felony in the DC district, never mind trying to bring it into a federal building when you know there's going to be an inspection.

Of course, this could be a ploy for publicity and to build credibility with the nut case fringe right $arah Palin worshiping loons.

Was he doing to make a pro-gun point? Trying to make himself look like a tough man for his boss and the NRA. The Kochs and NRA might not be far behind this little scheme.

    ...forgets he's carrying a 9mm?

That alone is enough cause to throw the book at him.

Now, sit back, munch on your dwindling supply of popcorn, and watch this whole thing go away because he is a rethuglican.

WTF good is a weapon on a "good" guy (big assumption here) if he doesn't remember he has it?

  12. If somehow the former Speaker has eliminated VP Biden, he'll also have to fin a way to off the current Speaker, who's third in line to the Presidency.

Or maybe, Beldar, the former Speaker and the current Speaker are in this plot together. Conspiracy!

Hillary Fatigue?" No. 1, Reince, she hasn's even said she's running. No.2, she's stringer and more intelligent that four of your clowns put together. No. 3, she was Sec. of State for four years, and knows every leader, every issue, and every button to push around the world. She is respected, something the GOP will never be, with your war-mongering "America is the BEST!" Christianity of get shot mantras. NO. 4, women are waking up. We will not be shoved back into the previous century while you big old white men tell us what we can and cannot do. Nor will our daughters. We will take back the House and keep the Senate. We well move this country along before you pipsqueaks take her back to slave days, great as those were for your great great grandpa.

But we're not Marino, He'll probably get a bonus for the extra publicity.

Once Again, the "excuse" is used.

"Marino's chief of staff is curretly saying that he does not think that Shucard was planning anything nefarious with the handgun and that it was probably just an accident."

Imagine, for a nano second, if Marino and Shucard were Democrats? "Accident" wouldn't pass the "smell test", and there'd be calls for heads to roll.

I love Joan Walsh, She's got that "momma grizzly" thing down to an artform, when you have the truth on your side, she's obviously got her ducks in a row. Schmooze him first about his "service", then squish him AND Palin like bugs on a windshield.
