Protesters block road, forcing buses filled with undocumented immigrant parents with their children to turn back.

Courtesy of NBC Los Angeles:

A Riverside County town greeted a group of undocumented immigrants transferred into the city Tuesday by blocking the road to prevent the federal bus carrying them from entering a U.S. Customs and Border Protection facility.

The first group out of an estimated 140 total was flown from detention facilities in Texas to San Diego, then taken by bus to Murrieta, where some local residents camped out to protest beginning early in the morning.

When the buses arrived just after 2 p.m., a vocal group of protesters carrying signs and draped in American flags blocked the buses filled with families who were detained after entering the the country illegally in Texas.

The three buses turned around and headed south on the 15 Freeway to an undisclosed location.

The plan was for the immigrants will be given background checks before being reunited with family members across the country while their cases are processed. Authorities said most of the immigrants are families, and the move is designed to ease overcrowding at border facilities strained by an influx of unaccompanied children that have flooded the system.

City leaders in Murrieta oppose the transfers, saying it’s a burden on their town and raises safety concerns.

That is just incredibly shameful.

I'm embarrassed for our country.

And exactly why are the immigrants from Texas not being housed in Texas? Why is California, a border state, chosen to get all these people? Let Texas man up and do the right thing. I don't see California immigrants being sent to Texas.

All countries have borders. These people need to go back to their own countries. We need to secure the border and create a process and policy for immigration that's doable. And by the way, the GOP is complicit in this "humanitarian crises", too.

If you're so "big hearted", why don't you buy property in Mexico and I'll advertise all over north America for people to come to your place. That you'll take care of them.

I'm appalled at the callousness expressed here. What would you have the government do with people they've detained and are processing for deportation? Anonymous 3:45 you're an ignorant dolt. Texas is already housing many people. Anonymous 5:12, I ask you again - now that the government has detained these people and is processing them, what would you have it do to house them?

And as far as your stupid "if you're so big-hearted" question - what are you telling us, that you're proud of being a cruel and inhuman asshole? I pity the people who live with you.

      immigrants from Texas....

      I'm from Texas.

Never knew I was an immigrant. My family immigrated and proud of the history and love this welcoming country. Love immigrants from all over. Yes, the laws are good. They may need updates and changes but good heart Americans will do the right for old citizens, immigrants and new citizens. From every where. Let's treat our neighbors with respect. You leftists always make it an "emotional" argument, that way you believe no one can argue with you. "You have no heart!" Typical Saul Alinsky "Rules for Radicals" tactics. You never want facts or logic to get in the way.

The simple fact is, these people are not "undocumented immigrants". That is nothing but a leftist lie using the twisting of language to suit your political ends. They are criminal aliens. An immigrant comes in through the front door, obeying the law and respecting the people of the nation into which he he wishes to immigrate. A criminal sneaks in the back door, breaking the law and taking what he wants with no respect.

These people are not being processed for deportation. That is a LIE. They are being set loose on the streets of America and being asked to pinky swear that they will come back in 5 or 6 years for a hearing about whether or not they might be deported. They are all arriving pre-coached with exactly the English phrases they need to say to the Boarder Patrol to claim that they are "escaping horrible conditions" and they "need asylum." How convenient.

This is all about one thing, and one thing only . . . Barak Obama's promised Fundamental Transformation of America.

Some of you are such numb-skulls! The women and children were from Central America. Do you know where that is? Take a look at your geography! That's El Salvador, Guatemala, and other countries (not Mexico). Your hatred really minimizes your intellect! I am so sorry that Mexico happens to be our U.S. neighbor because whatever transpires from people (coming in from ALL OVER THE WORLD) through the U.S. Mexican border gets blamed on Mexico. What did the U.S. do when people from Viet Name were fleeing for their life? They gave them a home, education, and opportunity, and they are now thriving and helping our economy and our position as the most powerful country in the world. What does the U.S. do when we don't have enough nurses and caregivers to take care of our gaining population? They go to the Filipines and make an agreement with their government and train Filipinos in healthcare programs and bring them into our country, house them, and have them care for our loved ones...oh, yes, with the opportunity to become U.S. citizens after they meet all the requirements. Yes, the southwest was once Mexico, i.e., California, Arizona, Colorado, Texas, New Mexico, and you don't see Latino citizens yelling and screaming because in anger. Guys, take five and thank Mexico for our beautiful Southwest. These states have been part of the U.S. and thriving and Latinos are proud to live here, always have lived here, before European, Asian and Middle Eastern immigrants arrived. What the U.N. needs to do is zero in on what is going on in these Central American countries to cause these families to flee their country to say alive, and fix that problem. For those immigrants that are here, young children and women, I bet there are many U.S. citizens in need of their services, whether to care for the elderly or to take care of their children while they go on with their careers to maintain to support their "American dream". Sometimes Americans are such hypocrites. I am a proud American, but I am not a hypocrite. When I see Latinos washing dishes in restaurants; gardening in public places and residential communities; doing construction work in dangerous freeways and in sweltering heat; and the janitors cleaning bathrooms and doing laundry in care homes, I say, "God bless you. I am greatful. May life becomes easier for you one day."

But it's congress who has power and they could do something but they are weak. Hopefully things will go more smoothly in Dallas -

As many as 2,000 unaccompanied migrant children who crossed the Texas-Mexico border without their parents in recent months could soon be headed to shelters in Dallas County, according to Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins.[...]

“Dallas County will partner directly with the federal government," Jenkins said. "We will identify facilities and we will work to open those facilities to them at 100 percent federal expense so that we can provide compassionate care and complete wrap services, that’s education, medicine, psychological, etc. to the children who are scared and alone on our border."[...]

“Children deserve to be taken care of compassionately and they’re here now and we have to take care of them in this country so we want to do in Dallas County what we can do to help the federal government with that responsibility,” he said.

We have rules, as do other countries, regarding applying for and being granted citizenship. As an American, when I travel to Australia I MUST have a return ticket, no one ways allowed and if I overstay my return ticket then questions will be asked and I'll be escorted out on next available flight unless I have a limited time work visa, which are very difficult to obtain.

One just does not show up on another country's doorstep expecting to be welcomed with open arms, much less fed, housed and transported to wherever it is that you say you have family.

There are procedures; green care requirements and then citizenship tests, before one is allowed to stay.

I'm all for sending these folks back from whence they came and next time perhaps they will try to enter the country legally and follow the immigration standards and rules set forth in order to become an American.

A child with a relative in the states may be eligible to live with their relative here. There are many situations. What is wrong with handling human beings with some humanity?

When a person is eligible countries give them political asylum. You don't know each situation and it all must be considered. Comprehensive immigration reforms would do more to solve matters. GOP obstructs. They want crisis and to work uninformed Americans into a frenzy. If you keep stupid people agitated and fearful. They will never wise up to how they are being manipulated. Anonymous 3:23 PM says "We have rules..."

Yes we do - laws in fact. Current US law contains special protections for unaccompanied minors, trafficking victims and asylum seekers. It is incumbent on the Administration to meet current domestic and international legal requirements.

In part, this means these children must be processed and, in the meantime, they need to be housed, fed and cared for.

Fortunately, there are groups, government and otherwise, who are doing what they can, such as KIND who find pro bono lawyers who will appear on the child's behalf.

"KIND recognizes that not all unaccompanied children are eligible to remain in the United States, but we firmly believe that these children deserve lawyers to help them return in the best way possible."

Cindy McCain was promoting attention to sex trafficking. Children are the worst victims. She might have some suggesstions. I can't imagine she would want to just get rid of kids and send them wherever if there was a chance they would just go to a pimp. Todd Palin may have some thoughts about this if he could speak or tell the truth. Then again he may be for pimps having rights to gain more product to sell.

You do realize that California and Texas are not independent countries, don't you? The US has absorbed all kinds of large immigrant groups over the last four hundred years or so. When they arrive, they tend to bottleneck in certain areas. By the late 19th century, German was the language most commonly spoken in Philadelphia. Then the populations disperse.

Right now, the federal government, that's the government that deals with these issues, is trying to sort out what's going on, work with these people to see who can stay and who cannot, unite some of them with family already in the States (not necessarily in Texas or California), and return those who have no possible standing here. It's the humanitarian way to address the problem and the legal way. In a country like ours, a problem like this is not a "state" problem but a "national" problem. And it's a problem that the Administration is trying to resolve. So, let's get over the notion that each state is sovereign and let's give the government a chance to work this out. I thought we were better than this; remember the Statue of Liberty with her message?

This was only THE FIRST GROUP of 140. That number is scheduled to arrive almost daily for many weeks.

Where will they go? Can a community absorb them? Provide jobs for everyone? Can a community pay for the families to attend schools, and receive medical care?

The 'person they know' is a coyote. The immigrants are paying money to this coyote to smuggle them into the US. Once immigration turns the Mexican immigrants loose, they're at the mercy of the smuggler. Is that what you want for them? Human trafficking?

Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
"Keep ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,

That can happen anywhere. It is a matter of impact. What will be cut to educate these children while they are here? Who will feed them? Who pays for their medical care? You are so quick to judge without thinking about the details. And yes they will receive all that while American children go hungry and without even the most essential medical and dental care.

As for me, I educate many children of immigrants, legal or not. I would die before turning any of them in. I have written letters to the Federal government on the behalf of many to try to expedite their citizenship. I employ them. So STFU before you start labeling anyone as a bigot.

Bush/Cheney should be tried as war criminals. Their fortunes should be used as reparations to the Iraq people. All Enron people should forgotten in prison. Karl Rove deserves a special place in hell as does Rupert Murdoch, Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, Alex Jones, Sarah Palin and many others. What does any of that have to do with this problem? The fact is that much as we may want to, we cannot help every person in the world who is in need. We should be helping the homeless children, vets, elderly, disabled, and mentally ill who are Americans first. These people are the mostly forgotten ones. Where is the compassion for them?

It is horrible what has happened to these children, and the Americans responsible for mistreatment of any immigrants should be dropped out in Death Valley with no water. The fact remains that California is and has been dealing with this problem every single day for many, many years. We don't need them imported here. Yes, this particular situation is bad. It obviously terrifies many people. But it is not the worst refugee type situation ever and it is not what some media is making it out to be.

America was a great country. Why can't we stop fighting wars for the greedy few and their wrong reasons and continue the strengths that made us great?

This humanitarian matter is a problem that needs level heads, those not manipulated by sick agendas from people who want authoritarian control over others. It is much better to calm down and think things out. Gather information from several sources.

We are talking about human beings here. Many are children.

It is not a horrible thing that family members join other family members in the US. That is not bad and angry crowds or bad politicians don't need to stop families reuniting.

Many rich people are a community liability. Many who come here poor and under dubious circumstance are the back bone of communities. No one should play God.

You might have wanted a chance at one time or you may want a chance one day in the future. Give that to others. If you prove yourself to be a disgrace and a loser we will gladly send you back or just toss you away. First we want to give you a chance. It is under our laws and that should not be feared.

All of us have families that came from somewhere else.

Our taxes should appropriately allocated to go to the legal kids and citizens, but somehow Republicans put a halt to any spending that would help the poor and the homeless, and turn the other way when big and greedy corporate executives get obscenely rich from the work and labor of the working poor. Oh, and by the way....the working poor, many who are illegal immigrants, pay beaucoup taxes....every time they go to pay for anything, i.e., groceries, gasoline, clothes, a bicycle for transportation, utilities, telephone, school supplies for their children....the list goes on and on. It would be interesting to see what would happen if illegal immigrants actually were pulled out of our work force. Wow, I'd love to see all the pompous, arrogant and haughty proud Americans on their knees, scrubbing the floors at McDonald's or doing the dirty laundry at care homes all over the country! Wow, a touch of humility might do you some good!
