Right Wing extremist in Utah arrested over plot to bomb bridges and start a revolution against the government.

Courtesy of WFAA:

Authorities arrested a 47-year-old Utah man Thursday that they say had been plotting to kill police officers and blow up a police station with the hope the attacks would cause an uprising against the government.

FBI agents and police in Tremonton arrested John Huggins on Thursday on a charge of possessing an unregistered destructive device, U.S. Attorney's Office of Utah spokeswoman Melodie Rydalch said in a statement Friday evening.

Huggins built an improvised explosive device and possessed explosive materials and instructions for making bombs, FBI Special Agent Steven Cadiz said in court documents.

In February, a "concerned citizen" contacted Tremonton police to report Huggins threatened to blow up a Bible study group and had buried bombs around the city of Ogden, Cadiz said.

Police later determined that information was incorrect, but Huggins had threatened to blow up the Tremonton Police Department and wanted to assassinate two officers before the bombing, according to court records. He also planned to blow up bridges and other infrastructure to prevent emergency responders from being able to help, the court records state.

Huggins stated he believed the attacks would cause the community to rise up against the government, investigators said.

Sounds an awful lot like those two sovereign citizen types who killed the police officers in Nevada.

And much like the rhetoric that was heard during the Bundy Ranch standoff.

It is becoming increasingly obvious that this country has much less to fear from Islamic terrorists from abroad, than it does from the homegrown Right Wing domestic terrorists being urged on by the likes of Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, and Sarah Palin.

Sure we can track down and arrest AL-Qaeda members in Afghanistan for promoting terrorism, yet this far more dangerous threat is allowed to walk around free fomenting dangerous anti-government tactics and spreading harmful conspiracy theories wherever they go.

Can we just please nuke Utah and the southwest? There's so little of value there, and the kooks seem extra-kooky.

I live in the South West US. I fear evangelical christians more than I do illegal aliens or mexican drug cartels.

Please don't include the "forgotten" state of New Mexico in your nuking. We are sandwiched between AZ & Tx but in no way do we share their kookiness. Most of us here are very laid back.

I would guess that if one of these dipshits were actually questioned in a court of law, he could not actually explain his motives for violent overthrow of the government. You know, sort of like Sarah Palin, self-proclaimed "pundint."

And just a few years ago, there was a massive uproar from the right when the DHS produced a report describing the threat from homegrown right-wing terrorist groups. John Boehner got his panties in a huge twist, Republicans were outraged and even some Congresscritters from the left were offended. Janet Napolitano had to withdraw the report and apologize.

Looks like that report was frighteningly accurate after all.

Nuke Utah? and the southwest? Your thoughts begin to sound a little like §P's awful ideas!! There is actually a lot here of 'value' starting with most of the people. Everyone is certainly not like this guy from Tremonton !! and, thank goodness they got to him in time. Have a nice day.

It's unfortunate for the sane people in those states that the lunatics are the ones who are the loudest and get the most press. Every place has good people and bad, but when the nutjobs get all the media coverage, those of us in the rest of the country start to wonder about how unbalanced the percentages of sane vs crazy really are.

I had family members who used to live in NM and, while I personally don't happen to like the climate and terrain of the southwest, I can recognize that there is a lot of beauty there as well as a lot of good, hardworking, sensible people.

I just vow not to visit the state. Right now all southern states and a number of states on the western side of the Mississippi are on the list. I did make an exception earlier in the year to visit dear friends but I succeeded in spending as little time and money as possible in the particular southern state I was in.

Glad they caught this one before he maimed and killed citizens and cops because the voices in his head told him to. The idiot built an IED and an IED can't be aimed like a gun.
Perhaps he has anger control issues and needs some serious jail time to re think threatening to kill police and your average citizen.

Thanks a lot, Fox "News" for creating thousands of lunatics just like this, convinced by your constant fear and hatred propaganda that his plan to become a terrorist, is a good one.
