First from Colorado Springs we have a five year old who shot a three year old:
Colorado Springs TV station KRDO reported that a 9-year-old boy found a handgun inside a Pueblo, Colo. home. Another 5-year-old child then got ahold of the gun and accidentally shot the toddler.
The 9-year-old told police that he learned how to handle the gun and get it ready to fire by playing "Call of Duty: Black Ops," according to the news station.
The 3-year-old underwent surgery at a local hospital and was in critical condition.
Of course the gun nuts will blame the video game for familiarizing the nine year old with guns, and while I agree that nine is too young to be playing "Call of Duty: Black Ops," video games do not fire actual bullets at children.
This was a case of a deadly weapon being left within reach of a child, and that is why this baby girl is in a hospital fighting for her life.
The next story is from Arizona, where a neuroscientist explains that the reason he carried an AR-15 around an airport was to make a "political" statement:
"I am a peaceful political activist, and my purpose in walking around the airport with my AR-15 rifle was entirely political in nature," he said in a news conference outside his attorney's office. "Put simply, I decided to make the point that a peaceful citizen can openly and responsibly carry a firearm, including an AR-15, for the protection of themselves and their community."
"I wanted to help educate the public and the employees at the airport about this point by allowing them to see a peaceful person responsibly carrying an AR-15 while doing things that people normally do there, like waiting for someone, drinking a cup of coffee," he added.
Sadly for this politically motivated ammosexual, he was arrested because as he was demonstrating his peaceful nature his weapon ended up being pointed at two women who did not find his actions terribly peaceful.
Come on! How hard is it to figure out that if you carry an assault weapon around a public place that people are going to have a negative reaction and contact the authorities.
I mean that's not exactly brain surgery.
Wait...
Next we have an NRA commentator arguing for the right of blind people to carry guns on their person for personal protection:
In the video, titled “Firearms and the Blind,” NRA commentator Dom Raso asked viewers several rhetorical questions. He said a blind person is not going to “start shooting in every direction” and “kill[ing] everyone” if he or she has a gun.
“The biggest concern I hear is having blind people carrying in public. Are you envisioning the person waving the gun around or pointing it at anybody for no reason? Because that’s what it sounds like,” Raso said. “Do you think because they’re blind, they’re going to start shooting in every direction and kill everyone? Fact is, it’s been proven that people that lack vision have an increased awareness of their hearing and spatial surroundings.”
Raso called the blind “more vulnerable to crime” than people who can see and went on to argue that blind people do not need to see in order to defend his or herself if attacked.
“Do you think you need to see where you’re shooting if someone is on top of you trying to kill or rape you, while their hands are slowly squeezing your neck and they're yelling ‘I’m going to kill you'? I didn't think so,” Raso said.
Yes let's have blind people carry guns so that they can fire in the direction from which they feel threatened. How could that possibly go wrong?
You know a lot of blind people already have the very best deterrent against assault and robbery on the market.
A seeing eye dog.
I would rather have a good dog by my side, watching out for bad guys, over a firearm that could be wrestled from my grip and used to shoot me in the face, any day of the week.
This final story come to us from West Virginia:
A Boone County woman and her son were hospitalized Tuesday after both were shot in a domestic dispute.
Deputies said Phyllis Mooney, 63, and Jason Mooney, 37,suffered wounds about 7:30 a.m. at their home in Twilight.
Deputies said Jason Mooney was packing his things to leave during an argument and slammed a .30-.30 rifle on the floor in an attempt to break it. Deputies said the gun accidentally went off, hitting both of them. They had to undergo emergency surgery at CAMC General.
The son is being charged with possession of an illegal firearm, however it looks as if the gun will get off scott free. Which seems unfair since it seems like the gun fired all by itself and tried to take both of them out with one shot.
And here the NRA keeps saying "Guns don't kill people, people, kill people." Try telling that to this rifle.
As I have said numerous times in the past, most shootings take place during angry confrontations, often domestic, and NOT in preservation of life and property.
Rarely is the 2nd Amendment keeping anybody safe, but it's existence can be blamed for the deaths of literally millions of American people.
And yet nobody has the courage to discuss the possibility of altering the language in this most deadly of amendments in order to protect the lives of our fellow citizens.
Isn't it about time that somebody did?
And here the NRA keep saying "Guns don't kill people, people, kill people." Try telling that to this rifle.
ReplyDeleteLMAO!!!!!!!
Steinmetz is not a neurosurgeon. He is the program director of neuroengineering at the Barrow Institute. He is not treating or caring for living human beings.
ReplyDeleteAll neurosurgeons are not Ben Carsons - thanks goodness.
Sorry. Totally read that as neurosurgeon, instead of neuroscientist.
DeleteI've been baffled as to why the NRA would oppose background checks. Why would anyone oppose keeping guns out of the hands of criminals or the mentally unbalanced? The following article is about the NRA's top lawyer, Robert Doulut and his decades long campaign against background checks.

An AR15 is the fastest way to cut through the skull bone during brain surgery.
ReplyDeleteVideogames don't teach you how to load a magazine, insert a clip or turn off the safety. I like to fantasize about an attempt by gamers to hold an arcade hostage, but quickly fail during the shootout with the police because they keep trying to reload by clicking offscreen...
ReplyDeleteWhere is your moral outrage over the 1500 civilians killed in Syria in the past week? That's right, one week. You jump on Israel like others do but where is the media or others when it comes to other atrocities like this. Hypocrite, biased, one sided. Do you have any idea how many civilians/kids we killed in Iraq or Afghanistan?
ReplyDeleteNaive. Gullible. Media junkie. You read a few articles Gryphen and regurgitate opinion as if it were fact. You do it all the time.
You are a hypocrite. And you are incredibly naive about how radical Hamas or other radical Islamists are. You actually think it's a peaceful religion because a few clerics say so. Yet you jump all over Christians and the Old Testament. I'm an atheist too, but I'm not naive and biased like you are. I try to read about an issue from all sides.
You actually think a two state solution would work. Have you read Hamas's charter? Have you studied the 1000 plus years of history. You and others slam Israel but where is the slamming of Hamas or Syria? Where is the slamming of radical Islamists in Iraq telling Iraqui Christians they must convert, move, or pay a fee to stay in Iraq? What about Africa and the massacres there.
What would America do if Mexico was lobbying missiles at us daily? Would we call Mexican people and send them leaflets asking them to kindly move while we bombed their weapons?
Do you honestly think if Israel totally left Gaza that would be the end of the hatred? Don't you know Israel left before and they were still attacked. I'd love to hear your naive solution about what Israel should do when rockets are fired at them? Ignore them? End the "occupation?" Been there, done that. Open your fucking eyes to how nuts radical Islamists are. How naive you are up there in the middle of nowhere on your ivory throne.
You should at least make some attempt to be an equal opportunity critic and bigot.
From a long time reader.
We all remember how the UK bombed Belfast to make the IRA stop "the troubles".

DeleteGryphen has a blog, he picks what he wants to cover and when. Calling him a hypocrite a few times while having a hissy fit is the best way to get your cause at the top of his list.
DeleteAnother regular reader and fellow atheist.
I'm torn here. While children being shot in their own homes is a tragedy, when it's the GOP NRA adults who are being injured due to their own ignorance, I do not feel sorry for them. I think Darwin is chuckling a bit as well.
ReplyDeleteFairborn, Ohio
ReplyDeleteLast night.
Local Walmart in a very nice neighborhood.
Idiot 21 year old male with a rifle starts terrorizing shoppers.
Police show up, shoot him. He died overnight. No big deal.
BUT.
A 37 year old mother of four due to be married this coming weekend died of apparent cardiac arrest in the store.
So, you see ammosexuals, waving guns around without even firing a shot CAN and DOES kill innocent people who can't tell by just looking at you whether you are a good guy with a gun or a bad guy with a gun.
Please allow me to speak for this poor woman and her family and loved ones - FU(K YOU ALL TO HELL.
Sorry Mr. Gryphen. I've had it up to here (reaching waaay above my head) with these jerks.
The family of the 37 year old mother of four who had a heart attack and died should sue Wal-Mart for letting that psycho bring his gun into the store. A lawsuit or two would wake up these stores who are fearful of the NRA and RW.
DeleteIf I see anyone in a public place with a gun, I know instinctively that that person is a bad guy. He/she may not rob banks but they have no sense, their judgment is faulty, they are exhibitionists, they are fools and all of that makes them a bad guy in my book. A bad guy with a loaded gun.
Nugent was also upset as usual about gun control laws in states like Colorado and bragged about how he’s a hunter. Yeah, if you call canned hunts real hunting. “Hunting,” as Nugent calls it, means enclosing game in an area so that it cannot escape. In short, he’s not a real hunter. He just pretends he is. Anyway, Nugent called upon hunters to “fix or replace” wives who don’t support hunting.
ReplyDeleteIf I hear another hunter tell me, ‘Man, I wish I could get my wife to support hunting,’ fix your wife. Fix her or replace her.

Well, you knew this was going to happen:
ReplyDeleteBEAVERCREEK, Ohio -- A 21-year-old man is dead after a shooting inside the Beavercreek Walmart Tuesday night, according to WHIO.
The store located east of Dayton was evacuated at about 8:30 p.m. after the shooting inside the retailer was reported.
Beavercreek police say officers shot the man after he was reportedly waving a rifle-type weapon at customers inside the store and would not comply with verbal orders from police.
A spokesman with the Montgomery County Coroner's Office told WHIO the man was transported to Miami Valley Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His identity has not been released at this time.
A woman also suffered a medical episode while officers were on the scene and was pronounced dead, the coroner's office told WHIO. The woman was not shot, according to the spokesman.
Witnesses told WHIO that about eight or 10 police cars and emergency vehicles gathered outside the Walmart. By 9:45 p.m. Walmart employees had formed a group outside.
Jerry Hensley pulled into the store's parking lot just as a large group of people fled from the entrance.
"A lot of people came running out into the parking lot, and just then the police arrived," Hensley said. "The people said, 'They are not going to let you in there because people are shooting.'"
The 40-year-old Fairborn resident told WHIO that he did not hear any gunshots.
According to another Fairborn man, James Chessman, someone started yelling when he was paying for his groceries. Those screams were followed by two loud gunshots, he said.
Chessman told WHIO that the shots were "clear as day" and came from the pharmacy department. He quickly ran from the store.
"We rolled out," he said. "If I hear gunshots, I am taking cover."

And before you ask, yes, Ohio is an Open Carry state.
Awww... That poor gun of Mr. Mooneys was CLEARLY acting in self defense, out of fear for it's life. Stand you ground covers it, doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteI can understand wanting to be considered a gun-slinger by totin' my Colt .45, reminiscing about the wild, wild West: spurs, horseshit in me boots, tumblin' tumbleweeds, rot-gut whiskey, Tombstone Hill. But there were no assault weapons available in the wild, wild West, unless you consider the gatling gun a hand-held weapon. Numb-nutted idjits.
ReplyDeleteThis was funnier before the post just before this about the two people who died at Walmart. But I'm a callous ass, so... Re: blind carry...
ReplyDeleteWait for it...
"use the force Luke"
The ammosexuals are on a mission to make people feel comfortable around guns. I'm perfectly comfortable if I never have to see another gun in my life. I'm comfortable knowing I can go about my day doing whatever needs to be done, without having to see a nutcase with a penis extender exposing his junk in public.
ReplyDeleteAnd why are they against stricter gun laws? Longer wait periods and background checks. Yet they'll gladly walk into a pawn shop unarmed, and hand over their license and thumbprints, no questions asked, no outrage because the pawn shop guy carries AND doesn't take bullshit from anyone. '
And it's usually the unarmed innocent kids who get killed/maimed.
RIP, Jim Brady
