Tuesday on "Access Hollywood Live," comedian Joan Rivers likened former Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK) to "retarded person."
Rivers said, "Sarah Palin, I think she's not my all time favorite. You know how you have a car sign that says be careful handicap person. I think when they have a retarded person driving a car it should be a picture of Sarah Palin with a line through it."
Host Billy Bush took on Rivers for the use of the word "retard" in her characterization: "You can't say the word, Joan."
Yeah Joan, you can't say that word.
Besides comparing Sarah Palin to a retarded person, is an insult to people everywhere who are suffering with a mental disability.
I mean sure they have trouble understanding things sometimes, but they're not batshit crazy ex-politicians, who target unsophisticated morons and try to separate them from their money.
Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Palin recently quote Joan Rivers in a video on that website of hers that everybody has forgotten about already because they happened to agree on Israel?

That's the problem with quoting people who dislike you on your vanity website.

ReplyDeleteBTW, I think the word "retard", used in a pejorative way, is in the same category as "idiot", "moron", etc. And should not be addressed or used to describe or address someone who really is in one of those 3 categories. But, I have nothing against the term "mentally retarded", if a person is that, like my own cousin was. It didn't mean that we didn't love her, it meant that she was well, "mentally retarded". I think it's just too politically correct to say "special needs", like it could be anything from having had polio to being completely bedridden but with mental capability retained. Or, it could mean low IQ, or special genetic conditions like DS, or lacking sight or hearing. So what are we supposed to use now? "I have a special needs child". What does that say?
Sarah frequently uses the word "lame", but guess what, I AM lame, and it's a slur against me and all others with the special needs of needing a wheelchair, lacking a foot from diabetes, battling arthritis and so forth. If "retard" is a forbidden slur, then "lame" is too. See, when we get all PC and pick and choose adjectives, what a tangled web we weave. Everyone can tell if a term is being used pejoratively.
And so should all the other pejoratives that Sarah uses.
Actually, the word "mentally retarded" is both a medical and legal term. Nothing wrong with either. Also the word "retarded" isn't a bad word unless it's used as an insult against someone. I would never called someone retarded just like I wouldn't call someone a "wet back". Both are very rude.

She has a production company, lets her mother live with her, has a nice kid, and Melissa gave the Palin girls a Hollywood reality job. I don't know if any of the Palin kids work, so it's hard to judge work ethics on that basis. I don't see Sarah passing Mrs. Rivers in "comedy", I don't find sarah's obsession with the president amusing, it's creepy and based on envy and sour grapes. Mrs. Rivers also seems pretty sad, having to resort to calling the 1st Lady a Tranny for headlines. They are both hasbeens, and of all the people you mention, Melissa certainly is head and shoulders above the others.

It was perfectly fine for Rush Limbaugh to use the term "retarded" in Sarah's eyes, she didn't denounce it and never bought it up. Yes, the word "retard" or "retarded" is wrong, but Joan Rivers is a comedienne and I cut her some slack in this case because she's right.
