President Obama receives famous Tim Harris hug.

Courtesy of the KOAT Albuquerque:

Inspirational restaurateur and Special Olympian Tim Harris paid a visit to the White House this week.

Harris, of Tim's Place restaurant, was there Thursday for a Special Olympics event.

President Barack Obama asked for one of Tim's famous hugs. When he embraced the president Tim said, "I love you Obama." In response, the president said, "I love you back."

Later on the president recalled the jovial hug.

"You know, presidents need some encouragement once and a while too. And that felt really good. That was nice. Thank you, Tim," Obama said.

I think the President should get Tim a room at the White House just so he can get a hug from him on the days that he has trouble with the Republicans.

You know, everyday.

By the way I cannot help but think that if the President and Michelle had a Down syndrome kid in their family, that he would receive the best attention and therapy available.

Even IF Obama were not the President.

I so agree with you, IM! The Obamas are just naturally loving folks to ALL of us. They would give a child that requires special needs care the very best they could afford - even if they were not POTUS and First Lady! Love them both dearly!

And, big hugs to all of them to include the young man w/Down Syndrome.

It's so sad and pathetic how $arah is always trying to copy President Obama. Again, I have no ill feelings towards trig and I wish him well (one can hope with that bitch for a Mother) but he'll never be the Man that Tim is.

I can not believe Trig only says 2 words...how frustrating for him not to be able to communicate his thoughts and needs. I would image his inability to convey his wants would lead to behavioral problems. Sarah did a great disservice to Trig. With all her money the cheapskate could have hired a professional therapist to be his full time nanny. I wish her long life and I hope the day will come when she's old and infirm that no one comes to her aid and she lies in her piss and shit all day...let's see how she likes it.

She was afraid to let anyone see his real records? That mattered more to them than making sure he was properly cared for? What could their excuse possibly be?

If you haven't seen the video about Tim Harris and his restaurant, PLEASE watch it. It will make your day. (You might want to have a tissue handy!)

I had family who used to live in Albuquerque and I wish I had known about Tim's Place when they were still there. I would have loved to visit and get a hug with my lunch!

I saw it quite a few times, and it gets me every time I see it. Amazing what unconditional love, a family that's focused on getting their child the best help they can afford, and Tim being so loving and accepting of everyone.
Anyone who's worked with or known a family with a DS child knows it first hand.

Sadly, this will make Sarah Palin angry and jealous, instead of inspired by what Trig could achieve.

I have been talking about Tim yesterday on the $arah video post.
Can you imagine, if TriG had gotten the type of support that Tim has been getting?!

This is the man I voted for twice! And this short clip shows he's appreciative and accepting of all people. Tim is truly a role model, as are his family and friends. Unlike an earlier post that shows the polar (or is that bi polar?) opposite and whose name I refuse to sully this thread with.

    1. I agree with you Anita. Now I wish I hadn't commented on she who should not be named. The Harris story is really heartwarming.

  10. I read about Tim a few years ago and was so impressed by him and by his family. Their strength and love and devotion and pride for each other is so heartwarming.

The contrast between the Palins and the Harris family is shocking. Trig has never been more than an abstract gift to the noble, sacrificial, loving martyr mother Sarah Palin. It was always about how they loved him even though. That is not unconditional love at all.

They have always referred to him in the context of his genetic makeup, not as his own person with his own likes, dislikes, preferences, talents, strengths and weaknesses.

He has always been used to portray Sarah as such a noble self-sacrificing martyr who out of the goodness of her heart accepted this child even though. They insult him every time they mention him.

Think about it. If they had acted responsibly and put him in all the best therapies and adopted all the best practices from his earliest months as the Harrises so obviously did with Tim, Trig might have developed to the point of being of being able to take care of himself and live his life like any other boy quite well. How then could Palin use him to portray herself as a superhuman saint if he was really quite ordinary and in many ways no different than any other child?

It was not in the best interests of the image of herself she wanted to portray, for Trig to develop well. He needed to be seen as a burden that she was oh so noble to bear.

She sounded completely ignorant of his speech and ability to eat and how it should be expected to progress in that transcript. Because she has no interest in him and just doesn't care.

The Harris family is a lovely, caring family and I'm sure the President truly appreciated the loving hug from Tim. It must have been such a comfort after dealing with Congress.

I so agree. If you haven't seen it, try to watch the documentary "The Crash Reel", about snowboarder Kevin Pearce; as he tries to recover from traumatic brain injury. His brother has Downs, and seeing how their family interacts with him makes the way the Palins treat Trig so obviously despicable. He's just another brother, who has chores, a voice in family discussions, etc. He is never ID'd only or mainly by his disability. Absolutely light years away from how poor Trig is being raised.

Those simple words, "I love you Obama" along with a heartfelt hug I'm sure touched Obama deeply. How he keeps his cool is amazing with all the shit thrown at him by the "retarded" GOP! And I use that particular word because it describes exactly their behavior....retarded...not moving forward...quagmired in their hate.

You already know the Obamas are wonderful parents. Both of their girls are still in school, even as teenagers! Not only that, they're in a good school, known for its education. Not only THAT, but think about it--how often do you see the Obama girls? Only in small, appropriate doses (pardoning the turkey, helping host the Easter Egg roll on the front lawn...). No reality tv programs for them, no getting caught underage in bars, no wine coolers in tents. The few times you do see them, they're always dressed appropriately for the occasion and mind their manners--nobody shoving reporters around or giving the 'big middle finger' to anyone.

"Game Change" regarding the idiot, fraud and liar, Sarah Palin, is played a lot on HBO. They are keeping America vigilant and reminded of the evilness of her!!!

Thank god John Heilemann and Mark Halperin wrote that book to include the portion on McCain and Palin and then the movie was done (which was an award winner in Hollywood!).

Tim Harris is a wonderful success story. He has had the support of his family and community. BTW, his food is excellent! If you're ever driving through Albuquerque be sure and stop in!

Never in a million years could Sarah Palin match those brief moments that showed kindness and affection.

So much word! Despite having five kids, I never once got a nurturing vibe from Sarah Palin. I chose not to have kids, and I'm more maternal than her. Kids are drawn to me. It could be because I have long red hair like Ariel, the Little Mermaid. Or it could be because kids sense I'm fun, kind and compassionate.

On-topic. Tim is awesome, and I also want a hug from President Obama (and our kickass FLOTUS).

Her take on the Alaska issue is going to further piss off the Alaska Republican party - they already didn't want a thing to do w/her.

Plus, I thought gov Parnell was suppose to be her buddy - who has protected her while he has held office in not letting documents be released that were requested!

She truly does bite the hand that feeds her and has zero regard for anyone except herself.

But, I cannot help but wonder if she'll be the kiss of death as to the vote?

A 'yes' vote vs Parnell being a 'no'! Could they (together) be doing this on purpose knowing she is the kiss of death on everything she touches? Hummmm!!!!?????

Personally, I've already voted 'yes' via absentee ballot! Dying to see the results.

That is under she sics her lawyers on them.

Remember this is all about freeloading, obviously she doesn't care about content, she has been repeating herself like a broken record since 2008.
