Alaskan reporter quits on air to fight for marijuana legalization.

Courtesy of Mediaite:

A KTVA reporter in Anchorage, Alaska ended a segment on marijuana legalization Sunday evening by announcing herself as the owner of the Alaska Cannabis Club and quitting on-air.

“I — the actual owner of the Alaska Cannabis Club — will be dedicating all of my energy for fighting for freedom and fairness, which begins with legalizing marijuana here in Alaska,” reporter Charlo Greene said. “And as for this job, well, not that I have a choice but… fuck it, I quit.”

As you can see the KTVA anchor was a little caught off guard, and later KTVA issued this apology via Twitter
Yes well nice try KTVA but I totally just heard her quit.

I never, ever, watch KTVA News so I don't know anything about this reporter, however I will say that she has now replaced my father's quitting of his job by playing Johnny Paycheck's "Take This Job and Shove It" on a phonograph and walking out, as my favorite resignation of all time.

Oh well, at least she has a job to fall back on.

If only she'd been doing some cover-up story about the brawl and decided she didn't want to be a lying hypocrite any longer

I'd be impressed if she were fighting for Alaskan women's reproductive rights, for stricter gun control in AK, for tightening of education regulations so sick losers like the Heath men couldn't get near children in a classroom, for protection of the environment and against the supremacy of industrial polluters in AK.

This? Doesn't impress me. I think she's a fucking idiot.

Why? is she a idiot? apparently she runs a dispensary and they found out and fired her and she said fuck you I quit!
She IS fighting for the rights of sick people to get their medicine.

Transparently you don't know how cannabis is used for cancer all sorts of medical conditions. FYI the Gov has a patent on Cannabis. As soon as it goes legal they are going to make a medicine from it.

Fuck you and your condescension, 1:20 -- I've HAD cancer. Twice. Of course I know. I still think she's an idiot! She was very unprofessional and dropping an F bomb on air is NO way to convince people that you are right and they are wrong! She shot her cause in the foot big time!

Pot legalization is going to happen in the near future, there is no doubt about that. It didn't need her showing off and using her news job to push her own business in such a stupid way. She really set back her cause.

She'll make far more money in her new endeavor than she ever would have on TV News.

This matter will be on the ballot in Alaska in November. I want to see it legalized just as booze was done eons ago.

Just because a person is a proponent of Vote Yes on 2 doesn't mean that we condone her behavior. There is plenty of weed available in Alaska, hell, we can grow 4 plants for every person in our household and possess an ounce in one container, legally. There is good weed available and lots of people are growing it for those that wish to have it, and many of the growers aren't terrible drug dealer types, they are your neighbors.

  4. If you want to swing people to your side who may be, let's just say, more conservative than the average bear, quitting by throwing an f-bomb on live TV is not the way to win hearts and minds. Yes, it's just a word, but it's offensive to many of us and shows a lack of professionalism.

I could understand why you would be offended if she took your god's name in vain or why any of us would be offended if she said "retard" or used some ethnic slur, but why is "fuck" so much worse than any other exclamation?

Now I'm offended that you would think because anyone is offended by her coarse behavior that we believe in "god"? What a leap you just made. I have a feeling you aren't even Alaskan so why don't you just butt out.

    4. Anonymous5:40 PM

No, I'm from Colorado. And, no, I won't butt out, since every state that legalizes marijuana brings us one step closer to getting rid of our draconian federal regulations and laws.

I apologize for assuming you are religious. But, I still don't understand why you would be offended by the word "fuck," especially when it wasn't directed at you or anyone else. You might not like it. You might think she's low class or course. But offended?

She ruined it by using foul language. Also, I'm pretty sure she's planning on selling pot to make money, not to fight for anybody's freedom. I'm probably going to vote to legalize pot, but bozos like her make me kinda want to go the other way!

The conservative, white bunch in Anchorage have no clue that 'fuck' is a normal and often used word in the English language today! It is said often and easily by all races (male and female) and has been for a long time. It kind of reminds me of when the word 'shit' was 'the word' to use eons ago!

I can see it being offensive to some of the older, older folks amongst us, but not the young and middle age crowd. I've heard it often throughout the years and don't even blink at it's usage anymore.

Check it out - betcha your own kids use the word often - to include the grandkids!

There's a time and a place to say "fuck it". Her time and her place were wrong. She has brought attention to our cause but in the wrong way. I realize that fuck is part of the common lexicon but not on a nightly news program and not by a person who uses the word to quit her job. As far as I know the network was none the wiser regarding her association with her medical marijuana group thus she could have quietly distanced herself from her job as anchor if she felt there was a conflict of interest, instead she grandstanded using her position as anchor to bring attention to her other job and cause and while doing so brought unnecessary attention to the network as well as possible FCC fines for improper language. She'll be liable for the fines imposed if they take her to court.

I appreciate where her heart is but wow, she could have been a bit more gracious in her presentation and dissolution of herself from her network job.

Legalizing it as a medicinal plant has its merits, scraping off needless criminal prosecutions and heavy-handed sentencing from our justice system being one, but I don't appreciate exploiting her position to report on her commercial enterprise and acting in a fine-able manner. Low class and inappropriate. And for all the jerks getting mad at us John-Q-Public citizens with our panties in a wad about this, you aren't helping get out votes with your nasty comments.

The fine will be kicked back to the employee, at least part of it. Most stations have in their contracts a "profanity clause" where if you use it then you are legally required to share in any FCC fines that are levied against your parent company, whether you work there any longer or not.

...her quit-on-air was apparently planned. And designed to gain a LOT of attention, which it did.

BTW, there sure are a lot of sanctimonious prudes -- about the f-bomb, the weed, or both -- weighing in on this topic. I don't partake of weed myself, but I live in a house where everyone else does, for -- as Charlo Greene puts it -- self-medicating reasons, instead of taking Zoloft, or drinking heavily. Weed is a great way for people to cope with stress.

But, never fear! Someone came back to work on Monday and finally changed "Sally's Word of the Day."
Today it's bonhomie. I'd love to hear the Palins try to pronounce it.
Her weekend word was "obstreperous," which someone over at the " channel" probably thinks is synonymous with " maverick" or " rogue." That someone also thinks that a four-syllable word is extra fancy and shows just how super-smart the Heath-Palin clan really is.
Used in a sentence: "Bristol did not display bonhomie at the party, but, instead, was obstreperous when the host asked her to leave."

I was pretty surprised because I thought she was a nice addition to the new program after they got new owners. I do wish she would have used other wording because I think cussing is pretty low, but I am sure everyone of us has had a "take this job & shove it" kind of day. Just noticed that 'F**k it, I Quit" Anchor Explain.... is the trending webpage on Alexa right now. Links to Huffington Post story.

At first I agreed with the commenter above who said it could have been handled more professionally. However, if what she wanted was to get attention, then the F Bomb on air worked.

My guess is most Alaskans will ignore the F Bomb and remember the story and go check into the issues sooner than they would have otherwise.

People who are offended by the comment and are swayed by it probably wouldn't have voted for legalization anyway.

And the national attention will bring the issue in front of more Americans than otherwise and so now they will do a bit of research to see what the legalize marij effort is about.

If it was me...no, I wouldn't have used the F Bomb. And if everyone does it, it won't work anymore. First one out of the chute gets the attention.

And, yea, what about a time delay? to bleep out profanity? And, notice the station didn't say what the story or the cussing was about, just that it occurred.
