Courtesy of Alaska Dispatch:
Anchorage Mayor Dan Sullivan vetoed a recently approved ban on metal palisade fences Tuesday, referring to it as “government intrusion.”
The ban, approved by the Anchorage Assembly in a 6-5 vote last week, was essentially a moose-protection measure. South Anchorage's Jennifer Johnston proposed it at the request of constituents who were alarmed by reports and photos of moose gored on sharp pales.
“While the ordinance is well-intentioned, the cost/benefit analysis does not warrant this level of government intrusion,” Sullivan wrote in his veto message.
Biologists have estimated that between two and four moose a year are gored on the fences, an incidence that Sullivan referred to as “very, very low.” The fence ban was supported by Anchorage area state wildlife biologist Jessy Coltrane, who testified at the Assembly hearing last week and said the moose gorings were both traumatic and preventable.
In his veto message, Sullivan wrote that the total financial impact to property owners outweighed the benefits of “saving a few moose.”
We talk so much about the Dan Sullivan running against Mark Begich for his Senate seat, that we often forget about another equally unlikeable Dan Sullivan who is the current Mayor of Anchorage, and who is also running with Sean Parnell as a potential Lt. Governor.
By the way one thing that almost all Anchorage citizens agree with is that they love having wildlife in their city. It is just one of those things that makes us especially unique.
And I can tell you right now that to most of us there is virtually NO financial burden that would outweigh the benefits of "saving a few moose."
I see this yet another black mark against the Parnell/Sullivan ticket. As if they needed any more of those.
Morality is not determined by the church you attend nor the faith you embrace. It is determined by the quality of your character and the positive impact you have on those you meet along your journey

Alaskan reporter quits on air to fight for marijuana legalization.
Courtesy of Mediaite:
A KTVA reporter in Anchorage, Alaska ended a segment on marijuana legalization Sunday evening by announcing herself as the owner of the Alaska Cannabis Club and quitting on-air.
“I — the actual owner of the Alaska Cannabis Club — will be dedicating all of my energy for fighting for freedom and fairness, which begins with legalizing marijuana here in Alaska,” reporter Charlo Greene said. “And as for this job, well, not that I have a choice but… fuck it, I quit.”
As you can see the KTVA anchor was a little caught off guard, and later KTVA issued this apology via Twitter:
I never, ever, watch KTVA News so I don't know anything about this reporter, however I will say that she has now replaced my father's quitting of his job by playing Johnny Paycheck's "Take This Job and Shove It" on a phonograph and walking out, as my favorite resignation of all time.
Oh well, at least she has a job to fall back on.

Viewers, we sincerely apologize for the inappropriate language used by a KTVA reporter on the air tonight. The employee has been terminated.

Open carry advocates in Texas upset about ordinance banning them from walking up to cars and handing out copies of the Constitution with assault weapons strapped to their bodies.
Courtesy of WFAA:
There was heavy police presence outside Arlington City Hall again Tuesday night, where "open carry" looked on as the City Council approved an amended ordinance banning pedestrians from handing out literature to motorists.
Open Carry Tarrant County often distributes copies of the U.S. Constitution. The ordinance applies only to certain busy streets.
Advocates for openly carrying firearms say Arlington is violating their First Amendment rights. Mayor Robert Cluck said it's purely a public safety issue.
So what's the big deal if a bunch of gun nuts want to hand you a copy of a document that they move their lips while reading? Well for on thing this:
Close to 20 people attended the meeting in favor of the law, including one woman who said she was approached by members carrying guns not to long ago when she was driving through town.
"It's impossible for anyone to tell if you're a person that has good intention, or if you intend to do harm," said Kim Martinez.
You know this continues to be a problem for these 2nd Amendment types who simply cannot fathom why the population at large do not find assault rifles as warm and fuzzy as they do.
Not only that but the open carry advocates have a theory as to why they are being hassled by the man. Or actually woMAN:
"We're out there to make people feel comfortable. Whenever we do our events, we always let the police know," Grisham said, adding that the Tarrant County group's "desire to resist that effort" was harming the cause for more gun rights in Texas.
Open Carry Tarrant County says the 911 calls reporting the group are actually actually gun control activists who use 911 to harass the demonstrators. Tov Henderson of Open Carry Tarrant County blames the group "Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America."
"They're telling their members to lie to 911. To lie to police," Henderson said. "They have told their members to call 911 on us, and say they saw us waving our guns violently."
What? Is this true?
Are those mean old moms who selfishly don't want their children shot to death while playing in a park the ones behind this clearly discriminative ordinance?
Not according to them: A spokeswoman for Moms Demand Action told News 8 they do not use 911 to harass.
Yeah you know I don't think that there really needs to be an organized effort to get people to call 911 when they are approached by some paunchy white guy sporting an AR-15. It just kind of comes naturally to people not to want to have heavily armed people walking up to their car when they are stopped at an intersection.
Go figure.

Crazy woman in Nebraska explains why passing a pro-LGBT ordinance is a bad thing.
You kind of have to listen carefully because this lady changes topics so fast she could give your brain whiplash. And be warned, there is a whole LOTTA crazy in this video.
"P- E- N- I- S goes into the anus to rupture intestines. The more a man does this the more he'll be a fatality or a homicider..."
"A huge percent of gay men in school grounds molest boys, partly because they don't have AIDS yet..."
"Hillary Clinton's roommate four years in college was a gay woman. To avoid going gay like Clinton did, college students need single rooms and single gender dorms... A college woman is seduced with illegal Rohypnol to go gay."
"Jesus was kissed by Judas, a homo, who tried to sabotage Jesus' kind ideas. Do you choose Jesus, a celibate, or Judas, a homo? You have to choose!"
I absolutely LOVE the guy with the glasses in the back who looks like he is about to lose his mind listening to this lunatic's rantings.
I have to admit I learned a lot from this lady, such as that Hillary Clinton was turned gay by her gay roommate, that butt sex ruptures intestines, Judas was a homo, and that the gayness of the Roman Senators resulted in Christians being thrown to the lions.
No wonder Christians hate "teh gay!"
In all seriousness this lady may be out of her fucking mind (Gee, ya think?), but she is still an unfortunate representation of the kind of looney thinking that runs rampant through the minds of many homophobic people.
When she talks about homosexuality being a choice, gays molesting children, and homosexuality being contagious, she is speaking for a larger group of people than I think many of us are comfortable admitting exist in this country. And THIS is the mindset that is behind many of the anti-gay rights ordinances being passed these days.

And remember to watch out for the "Orgiers!" They's bad!
