Katie Couric turns her sights to gun violence.

Courtesy of the Hollywood Reporter:

Katie Couric and Stephanie Soechtig, who tackled childhood obesity in this year's documentary Fed Up, are setting their sights on an even bigger hot-button issue: gun violence.

"Much like Fed Up traced the history of the obesity epidemic, this film will trace the history of guns and their impact on society," says Couric, currently Yahoo's global news anchor. "We hope we can deconstruct this complex issue and give people a better understanding of existing and proposed gun laws and take a closer look at one of the most polarizing issues of our time."

Soechtig, who co-wrote and directed Fed Up, tells THR she will helm the new doc, which will trace U.S. gun-control laws and gun violence as well as the backstory of the NRA. Soechtig, 37, and Couric, 57, have been working on initial research and plan to have Couric produce, conduct interviews and narrate, as she did with Fed Up, which premiered at Sundance in January, grossed $1.5 million in theaters via Radius-Weinstein Co and is available on iTunes and Amazon.

I would actually expect this documentary to do better than Fed Up did in theaters simply because gun violence is in the news far more frequently and people are paying very close attention to it right now.

I know I will promote the hell out of it, and embed clips as soon as they become available.

Some might say that Couric cannot really have much of an impact, but all I have to say to that is I would not put anything past somebody who could stop the Palin momentum in 2008 with a mere handful of interviews the way she did.

Look out NRA. Katie's coming!

Katie's taken on, and beat, much rougher things than Wayne La Pierre and the Ammosexuals, and one of the dumbest former Governors and VP Picks in the history of history. She looks fantastic for a woman of 57! She became widowed and raised two children, she's climbed the ladder and made it to Anchor, left her daytime show for the yahoo gig.
I imagine there's a certain valley trash washed out has been who's jealous of all Katie's accomplished sans first or any "dude". Those screams you're hearing are Sarah having one of her fridge abuse fits.

For those who misinterpret the 2nd Amendment:

Picture the founding fathers gathered to discuss their achievement in creating the Constitution...and how they went on to consider some additional items to add to it.

"I think we should put something in, that encourages every citizen to buy every gun they can lay their hands on.

We should let them know that if they ever feel dissatisfied with how we are running the government of this new nation, they can put a bullet through any of our heads."

(Now, if that seems like it was a possibility, you are beyond hope.)

Yes because it is completely inconceivable that anyone would possible put in place any safe guards to prevent tyranny or criminal actions of a person or group in control of others, even their own. Your type of thinking is the very reason the 2nd amendment exists. You would love to have control with out any repercussions from the ones you controled. You are the only one "so far" that is beyond any hope.

Who would have thought asking a simple question such as "What do you read?" could save our nation from disaster.

I wish Katie had also asked the interview standby-"where do you see yourself in 5 years?" Since $arah seems to think she was running for president, would have been an interesting answer.

I wish I could feel optimistic that this documentary will actually change anybody's minds. But I fear she'll just be preaching to the choir. It'll make the the gun humpers feel ever more threatened and paranoid, which will make them gather their expanding arsenal ever closer to them.

I really think the documentary will be like a peashooter going up against a tank. Because gun humpers are impervious to reason, or cause-and-effect. They value their dick extenders more than human life... and you can't get through to people who are perfectly willing to accept the deaths of untold innocent children (and adults) as but normal collateral damage to the gun culture they depend upon for their manliness.

So you're saying that the many millions of women who own firearms, including for self-defense, own those as "dick extenders"? And they "hump" them? And you are accusing other people of being "impervious to reason"? You're joking, right?

As for the "untold innocent children" victims of firearms, you do know that FAR more children die from motor vehicles, drowning, and poisoning than from firearms, right? Apparently you don't care about facts, much less "cause and effect", but your resort to name-calling indicates the quality of your intellect and arguments.

Bring it on Katie, you are not going to sway anyone's mind or change anyone's opinion. We are as afraid of you as a cat is of a mouse. Plenty of people have tried this but the numbers just don't lie. More guns are in society then ever before and yet violence is down for the 10th straight year is a row. Bed wetting anti rights people just can't seem to pull it together. Guns are going no where and none of us are scared they are. Bring it on sweetheart, do your worst.

Stopped listening to Katie Couric years ago for many reasons. As far as the comments against the 2nd amendment argument, I'll ask ANY person reading this to provide proof the 2nd amendment specifically describes firearms.
