Iowa State Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Red Oak), candidate for U.S. Senate, has quickly become a national figure by making outlandish statements that appeal to the far right, including comments charging that she would use a gun to defend herself “from the government.”
“I have a beautiful little Smith & Wesson, 9 millimeter, and it goes with me virtually everywhere,” Ernst reportedly said in 2012 at the NRA and Iowa Firearms Coalition Second Amendment Rally in Searsboro, Iowa. “But I do believe in the right to carry, and I believe in the right to defend myself and my family—whether it’s from an intruder, or whether it’s from the government, should they decide that my rights are no longer important.”
I don't know about any of you but what I look for in a candidate seeking a position in the Federal Government is the assurance that at any moment they might murder a fellow federal employee if they dare to touch their gun.
I am also very impressed when they refer to the attractiveness of their murderous accessory and claim to take it with them "virtually everywhere."
Nothing creepy or frightening about that.
If she takes it "virtually everywhere", does that mean she usually does not "actually" take it? I am confused (not really).
ReplyDeleteThe American language can be confusing...
Everything about Joni Ernst is creepy and frightening.
ReplyDeleteJoni, you're running to serve in an office in the federal government. If you were so anti-government, you wouldn't be asking for votes.
ReplyDeleteIn any event, when you call the government "they," you're being disingenuous. Our government allows free and fair elections: the "they" you talk about are all of "us" who have elected representatives to carry out the wishes of the majority.
You're fear-mongering to pretend that there's a separate, conspiratorial "they" who are after you.
What a crock, Joni. You're a shill for the gun manufacturers. Just admit it.
What she wants are the perks. We had seven people vying for the GOP nomination for state representative. Imagine - all those people who hate government but want to run for office!
DeleteBeaglemom
All Ernst is is another gd Palin clone. Quick with the BS answers and not a clue what the hell to do.
ReplyDeleteHopefully, this comment will help get her defeated. There can't be that many people in the beautiful state of Iowa who are as crazy as she is. Can there?
ReplyDeleteCould be. All of us smart ones moved away. :-)
DeleteDoes this mean that if she is elected that she might shoot herself in the face?
ReplyDeleteWhat's she going to do? Open carry into the chamber and open fire when someone disagrees with what she wants?
DeleteI can't believe she's in the lead. Apathy? Ignorance? I still don't know why the Iowa caucuses are held, as Iowa is certainly not a cross-section of America.
Anonymous 3:04: LOL!!! She is running for "the government", and if she is elected she will BE "the government". Her hatred of government can mean only two things: either she is a con artist of the nth degree; or, she is a certifiable schizophrenic. There is no other explanation for this game/charade. Yes, she is a shill par excellence of the gun lobby, but that fits in the first category very nicely: con artist, posing as "I'm just a little scared person like you, see?"
DeleteSo by Ernst's rationale, gay people should have been able to shoot up Washington and elected officials when DOMA was passed and signed into law by Clinton. Ernst, please go back to your pig pen.
ReplyDeleteBig talker . Would not know what to do in a real gunfight.
ReplyDeleteWhat do the crazy right want to hear so that I can be elected.
She doesn't have a blank clue. Love her hairdo. Hahahaha Frickin clown.
She belongs in the trash bin along with christine o'donnel, sharon angle
ReplyDeleteTools like Joni Ernst have no business in politics.
ReplyDeleteAin't it the truth
DeleteHow lovely that all these republicans vying for government employment, government checks and government healthcare
ReplyDeleteseem to hate the government so badly. Maybe they should just volunteer their services so they wouldn't technically be part of the government.
Fake ass idiots.
SO...
ReplyDeleteJoni Ernst is saying that if I own a gun (I do)
and SHE tries to pass legislation that makes me feel "that my rights are no longer important"...
then...
I'm really uncomfortable trying to follow her logic.
Oh, no, Randall, those rules don't apply to us. We all know that Patriot Joni is one of Gawd's "chosen" beings, so her "rights" trump ours...**cough**
DeleteJoni Ernst is Iowa's own Sarah Palin: An utter fake who's too lazy to get a real job, helps herself to free government money, and doesn't care for the truth.
ReplyDeleteAnother idiot who will end up being robbed with her own gun.
ReplyDeleteOr killing her relatives with displays of "responsible gun ownership."
DeleteI'll bet if truth be told Ernst is protecting herself from crazies like the guy who shot Gabby Gifford since she is exposed to plenty of nuts. Not the government. But of course that sounds good to the paranoid teahadists whose votes she is counting on.
ReplyDeleteThe campaigns of fear carry on.
I see she fires her gun the old fashioned way. This is not a very secure way of holding an automatic pistol. Fucking amateur.
ReplyDeleteIf she ever encountered an assailant she would be like Fredo in the Godfather. Fucking useless. She's another real Christain potty mouth. Just like the paling kids.
ReplyDeleteOh Iowa. Please remember that even Nevada said no to crazy Sharon Angle. Think before you vote.
ReplyDeleteThe gun industry set out to increase sales, and the NRA to increase membership. They were losing ground as fewer and fewer people were hunting. Both groups and associated hunting lobbies decided to target children and women to increase membership sales. You are seeing the results of this. It sickens me to no end to see my facebook feed filled with people posing with guns and apparently feeling more powerful and sexy in doing so, and bragging about getting their children attached to guns at younger and younger ages.
ReplyDeleteSo if the government, which she is trying to be a part of, should try to "take away her rights," she's going to take them on with her "little Smith and Wesson?" Uh, she does realize the government has more firepower than she does, doesn't she? And the government, i.e., the police, FBI, etc., would have no problems taking her down if she tried to shoot any of them.
