Courtesy of Alaska Dispatch:
An ordinance that would have banned commercial marijuana in Anchorage failed after four hours of public testimony and debate in Assembly chambers Tuesday night.
The Assembly voted 9-2 just after 10 p.m. to kill the measure. Only members Amy Demboski and Paul Honeman supported the measure.
Demboski introduced the proposal last month, hoping the city would take a “wait and see approach" as state lawmakers craft marijuana regulations.
Yeah this lady just made the shit list of a whole lot of pot smokers in this town.
Fortunately for her they are all way too mellowed out to do anything aggressive, but they are totally thinking mean thoughts at her.
Keeping legal marijuana sales out of Anchorage, while they were taking place in other parts of the state, would have left us out of the potential windfall that the legalization will likely bring.
And THAT will definitely get people more than a little riled up.
Instead of wasting time trying to put on the brakes the Assembly and other legislative bodies should be focused on implementing policies that will see this new opportunity implemented as seamlessly as possible.
Besides I want to try one of these new cannabis suckers.
I haven't ingested marijuana since the 70's and I hear these are the way to go.
Be careful, a lot of people are underestimating the power of the edibles and end up having a very bad time. Remember that it can take up to an hour for the eefects to begin and that generally, edibles are dosed for a professional level of tolerance and experience. And I've even heard THEM admit they're very, very careful about how much of an edible they consume after experiencing what happens when you get overconfident.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I'd start with a cookie or a brownie or something that I can nibble a tiny piece off of and gauge the results.
Don't worry I have a few experts in my family.
DeleteBesides I seriously doubt it is something I will do very often. I don't like the feeling of being disoriented.
Gryphen, this ain't your granny's MaryJane. Many in Co and Wa have been hospitalised, including children, who have overdosed on the edibles.
DeleteI'm with you on the disoriented feeling, I have enough of that without outside help.

-Actually there is a vast range of effects depending on the strain. The best Herb I ever smoked actually made my mind vastly clearer than normal. It was like it filtered out all the cross chatter (I'm usually thinking about at least three things at once) and let me focus and concentrate. It also made me intensely motivated to go work on a project.
DeleteI was euphoric, motivated AND clear headed! It was AMAZING. But you've got to find the right strain. Normally I either just fall asleep or have an anxiety attack, so it's never been something that I did very often. LOL
Good luck with that approach.
DeleteHey Boscoe, yeah good herb can do that. I've had the privilege of getting some of that from time to time.
DeleteI have NO idea where my husband would be without medical marijuana, it has almost literally saved his life. I realize this is for recreational purposes but it's about time these people get off their high horses and do the will of the people who elected them.
ReplyDeleteI know...I know...pipe dream...
I purchased legal cannabis in Colorado yesterday. I went to a couple of locations and was most impressed with the professionalism exhibited by all staff. It was so refreshing to simply show ID, make a selection, pay for it, and leave, all in a familiar retail atmosphere.
ReplyDeleteIf I still lived in Alaska, I'd be scrambling to obtain franchise rights from one of these outfits--whoever does is going to be rich.
The edible market is very big here and suppliers have standardized 10 milligrams as a dose. Most products are sold in 100 mg sizes, but packaging and staff both make it very clear that the entire package should not be consumed at one sitting.
The best part about the experience was realizing that responsible citizens who have decided to use and enjoy cannabis can finally do so. Alaska's on the right track and I'm very happy to see that the majority of the Anchorage Assembly realizes that.

DeleteThe problem is the FEDS still can bust dispensaries and have in Cali!!! We are a MMJ state and most recently PBO signed a bill along with congress to overturn the VOTE of the PEOPLE who vote for Legal MMJ in DC!!! Until we get a fucking Congress who isn't paid off by the Alcohol lobby& Big Pharma it will be illegal under FEDERAL law. You can be busted if the FEDS decided to raid a dispensary.
What REALLY galls me is the recent DC Vote/Bill that has been OVERTURNED, by Congress (Cronibus bill) and POTUS.
Very bad not to listen to the people no matter what party you belong to!!!
G you will have fun going to dispensary or go to Grasscity.com and read up on all the new strains, and learn about India's vs Sativa's and crosses. Edibles should be approached with care! They are so delicious you want to eat them all!!! But don't!!! take a little bite and wait...and don't plan on driving!
They are very professional and knowledgeable. I've gone to a couple places here in Colorado and the sales people can answer any questions and make recommendations. Just tell them what you're looking for.
DeleteIt's apparently not your grandfather's MJ -- much, much stronger, so kiddies....just saying, not that any of them will listen. Did we?
ReplyDeleteEverything in moderation.
DeleteI said nearly the same thing before reading your comment. Yes it's very potent stuff these days. With the drinkers, texters and now pot smokers on the road, I may have to stop driving.

Careful with those edibles, G. Today's weed is not at all like 70's weed. And, edibles take a while to kick in. That said, enjoy!!
ReplyDeleteI'm dreaming of a green Christmas :)
More from the crazy cannabis lady who walked out of her anchor job live on TV...she seems as crazy as we all thought she was.
ReplyDeleteThankfully she isn't the "official" face of the pro-cannabis movement in AK, more a tangential player stirring up shit and giving pot a bad name. Sounds like she and her family have some issues.

an annectdotal comment on a chat board at grasscity.com says a lot about the reality beyond the headlines, ....this movement-in-the-making genie is not going back in the bottle:
ReplyDeleteDown here in Alamosa, I moved here(From Austin Texas) almost a month ago because it was my fathers last wish to be in a place where weed was legal and he didnt have to feel persacuted for enjoying his ganja while living his last days on earth. I have been wanting to move here since last November and I have to say for me it's perfect. I am a botanist and have been undergrown growingfor almost 10 years and to have the liberation of finally being able to have my whole setup going and 0 fear of the cable dude or postman or neighbors NO ONE CARES. I dont have to say I am growing tomatoes at the grow shop I can actually talk about weedfreely. This is a wonderful place to live and I plan on being here for a long long time. Until the legalize in Texas anyway lol.
and - http://www.thecannabist.co/2014/12/05/special-report-cbd-oil-colorado/24772/ Hundreds of families have moved to Colorado in hopes of healing their sick children after conventional medicine has failed them.
I have a few acquaintances here that are dead-set against marijuana: it's evil and they just KNOW it.
ReplyDeleteI've asked each them (separately and at different times) if they would try marijuana if it were legal and they said NO! Definitely NOT. Absolutely NOT. EVER.
THEY don't want to ever use it
because they've never tried it,
thus, they don't want anyone ELSE to use it.
10 it's illegal
20 because it's bad
30 it's bad because
40 goto 10
(In ONE of these cases I'm talking about, I know for a FACT their son is a regular marijuana user and they brag and brag about how smart and successful he is. And he IS smart and successful . . . and a pothead. Ironic, ain't it?)
try the brownies..just DON"T eat the whole thing at one time...just saying..I live in CO.,and it is legal here!
