George W. Bush back in the spotlight as Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee releases new information that proves that Bush Administration lied in run up to Iraq war, and CIA Director claims that torture techniques were authorized by President Bush personally.

Courtesy of AOL:

The chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee released new information on Thursday that he claims is evidence that the Bush administration misled the nation in the run-up to the war in Iraq.

In a speech on the Senate floor, retiring Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich., outlined a 2003 CIA cable that warns George W. Bush administration officials against making references to claims that Mohammad Atta - the man who led the 9/11 hijackers - met with an Iraqi intelligence officer in the Czech Republic before the Sept. 11, 2011, attacks. Levin claims Bush officials used the unconfirmed meeting to link Iraq to 9/11 to justify the U.S. invasion of Iraq.

"There was a concerted campaign on the part of the Bush administration to connect Iraq in the public mind with the horror of the Sept. 11 attacks. That campaign succeeded," said Levin, who cited opinion polls from that time showing many Americans believed former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein was involved in the attacks. "Of course, connections between Saddam and 9/11 or al-Qaida were fiction."

He referenced a Dec. 9, 2001, appearance by Vice President Dick Cheney on "Meet the Press." Cheney said: "It's been pretty well confirmed that he (Atta) did go to Prague and he did meet with a senior official of the Iraqi intelligence service in Czechoslovakia last April, several months before the attack."

"Far from 'pretty well confirmed,' there was almost no evidence that such a meeting took place," Levin said. "Just a single, unsubstantiated report, from a single source, and a mountain of information indicating there was no such meeting. ... Travel and other records indicated that Atta was almost certainly in the United States at the time of the purported meeting in Prague."

Of course I am relatively certain that all of you already know that the Bush Administration lied us into the Iraq War. (And if you don't know that you need to drop everything and watch Hubris right now.)

However with all of the hubbub over the Senate report on torture right now it is a good time to remind ourselves that virtually everything we think we know about why we went to war in the first place is a lie.

And speaking of the torture report as I am sure many of you have heard, there is a concerted effort to convince the American people that President Bush himself was out of the loop when it came to the harshest interrogation techniques, but the CIA Director wants you to know that is all bullshit.

Courtesy of the Daily Mail:

The CIA's enhanced interrogation technique program was authorized by President George W. Bush, the bureau's current director John Brennan said on Thursday, and it had his full support.

Brennan, who worked at the CIA at the time as a deputy to a high-ranking CIA official, told reporters that Bush ordered up the program six days after al Qaeda attacked America, despite the fact that the spy agency did not have adequate space to house detainees nor did it have the correct training to interrogate them.

'In many respects the program was uncharted territory for the CIA, and we were not prepared,' he said, later stating that officers 'inadequately developed and monitored' the program and 'the agency failed to establish quickly the operational guidelines needed to govern the entire effort.'

Brennan also said that whether or not these "enhanced interrogation techniques" provided any intelligence that could not have been gathered without them is "an unknowable fact."

So to sum up, the Bush Administration lied us into a war that cost thousands of American lives, and hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of Iraqi lives. Bush ordered the use of  torture techniques even before we had captives on which to use them. And yet to hear the conservatives tell it President Obama is the one who has tried to "fundamentally change this country."

Simply put, George W. Bush is a criminal and a traitor to his country.

I have been waiting for the last 12years for that to happen. My hopes were high, until Nancy Pelosi said 'prosecution is off the table' (or something to that effect)

    From a commenter at reddit.....

"With the two (stolen) Bush presidencies, we went from a prospering nation with a massive amount of extra money and great public works in action to a broke, war-tired, scared, resource-poor, jobless nation of peons who got fucked over so ultimately hard during the bank bailout.
That was just the terminus of all the cash that was moved from the citizen's Treasury to the private pockets of warmongers, warmakers, bankers, and 'job creators' - all in the course of just 8 years.
Those evil fuckers lead some devious, horrific times - we haven't touched on the USA PATRIOT Act; committing torture; gitmo; the huge increase in suicide rate among armed forces members; the obvious collusion between businesses that supply the government and members of the government for those contracts, etc."

Ordinary people saw right away that this war was trumped up. Iraq and Saddam had NOTHING to do with 9/11. Saddam hated Bin Laden, and kept him out of Iraq. OIL was the real motive, so thousands died, or were maimed, misplaced. It is a stain on this country that people like W and Cheney did whatever they wanted to, and got away with it. So many stupid people went along with this farce. Time to pay the piper, turn the entire administration from that war mongering group over to the War Crimes Tribunal. Cheney went on Meet The Press with Russert to "spread the propoganda" that has been documented. The useless media reported everything he said, ignored the anti war demonstrations. No wonder those overseas think the US is slime, greedy, self promoting warmongers. I wish those responsible would be brought to justice, to honor all the young people who gave their lives needlessly. ALL people, not just US servicepeople. Other countries lost their citizens, too.

Oh yeah, Mohammed Atta, the guy whose perfectly unscratched passport was picked up off the sidewalk outside the demolished Twin Towers.....That's when I knew the whole thing was an invention to get us into war. For oil.

Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Brennen, Rice, they are all murders, liars, felons and traitors to the Nation. They should be prosecuted. To the fullest. But they won't. Because the military industrial complex won't let them. Proof? How about that in the budget bill just passed, Congress just bought us a few more fighter planes the air force didn't ask for and doesn't need. That's a few more millions lining someone's pocket.

I really wonder about these kinds of "purchases", $500 toilet seats, $200 hammers...

My husband watches the (usually boring) NASA channel. They recently announced that our government just gave them two more Hubble Space Telescopes. Yes, THAT Hubble. We really built THREE of them, two off the books. Now where did all that money come from? Apparently, we were using two of them for ulterior purposes that have probably by now been replaced with something even bigger and better than Hubble.

The fundamental change to this nation is coming from the right, and has been in place since Reagan. President Obama would like to take the country BACK to when we did the right things, were respected around the world, and didn't lie as easily as we drink beer. If the RW doesn't believe this now, they are truly delusional, ignorant, and brainwashed. The threat to this country is from within, and thank goodness we have Bernie and Liz, Hillary and Harry, working for the people. Obama can only do so much (but I do hope prosecution is back 'on the table,' Mrs. Pelosi! If we don't do it, the UN may.

Agreed. That and when Bldg 7 collapsed into itself hours later, the building where MYC intel was stored. Too bad we can't interrogate noun verb 9-11-I'm sure he was in on this too.

I agree with you, Sally in MI. Too many coincidences and oddities and no one ever conducted a serious investigation. It wasn't considered "patriotic" so we just started to push to war. Isn't it sad that war is always the great "unifier"?

Building 7 is the HUGE question mark surrounding the events of 9/11 and yet no one wants to discuss it. Strange how the building was evacuated (of people, that is) before the planes crashed into the towers. If nothing else, that is one issue which puts all the other events into serious question.

When I say to my conservative friends that Bush/Cheney sanctioned torture they say Obama is using drones.

I then say that I notice they didn't deny Bush/Cheney tortured people.

And then they say that the "enhanced interrogation techniques" supplied valuable information.

And I reply that the report says the TORTURE did NOT supply ANY useful information. And then I reiterate to them that IT WAS TORTURE.

And when this one friend of mine said that I should "grow up and face facts - this is the real world" - I reminded him that he claims to be a Christian...

    and Bush/Cheney TORTURED HUMAN BEINGS!

Is that who we are now?
Even the self-righteous Christians accept TORTURE OF HUMAN BEINGS as just the way it is supposed to be?
Is this what we have become?

I am an atheist an I am disgusted that the USA tortured people. It makes me sick, physically ill to my stomach.

And it makes me so sad that my so-called "Christian" friends think TORTURE has to be done. So sad.

    All their sanctimony is worthless.
    Worthless Sunday lip-service, nothing more.

And many Americans think that gun ownership is the most important part of the Constitution, all the while proclaiming their "Christian" ideals. What has been happening in this country since George W. was anointed president by the Supreme Court is really frightening. A sitting president, especially one as good as President Obama, has never had to endure the rudeness and seditious behavior of the opposition party in Congress that he has . And one of the chief spokespersons for the nastiness, the racism, the rudeness has been Sarah Palin - and no one in the GOP has ever had the courage to tell her to shut up and fade away.

The phrase "self-righteous Christians" is an oxymoron. You are right to call them "so-called" Christians. They forget that their beloved Old Testament was written before their Jesus came on the scene. They desecrate his name every day. (No pronoun caps, I'm also an atheist).

It's a damn shame they're still free and trying their best to re write history (Good Luck with that). Condi took the Nixon mantra "I don't recall" during her hearings, when we all know she spoon fed the news to President Bush every morning. Cheyney and War inc is self explanitory, and Donald Rumsfeld is another. No one mentions Valerie Plume, friendly fire, and the lies that Bush told that didn't quite mesh with the saved soldiers own stories. Rachel did a fantastic job with "Hubris".

  11. I, like so many, have been waiting for them to be held accountable. This is our chance to do it, the cynic in me says it's not going to happen but the idealist in me says good will prevail over evil. We have heard all the false narratives for so long, when is sanity going to win over the madness? I am not one for capital punishment but I would personally attend the beheadings of Bush and Cheney if possible just to make sure their scourge is over once and for all. The time is now.
