For the first time a US court has determined that homosexuality is not a mental disease. The first time?

Courtesy of Mother Jones:

In a blow to the controversial practice of gay conversion therapy, a New Jersey judge has ruled that therapists who claim that homosexuality is a curable mental disorder are committing consumer fraud.

The ruling, issued on Tuesday by Superior Court Judge Peter F. Bariso Jr., is part of an ongoing lawsuit filed on behalf of four men who say they were subjected to humiliating treatments by therapists affiliated with Jews Offering New Alternatives for Healing (JONAH), a gay conversion therapy referral service based in Jersey City. Bariso said it violates the state's Consumer Fraud Act to advertise conversion therapy services by describing homosexuality as a mental illness, disease, or disorder.

"This ruling makes clear that when conversion therapists lie about the nature of homosexuality in order to lure these vulnerable clients into their services and their programs, they're committing fraud," says David Dinielli, deputy legal director of the Southern Poverty Law Center, which filed the lawsuit for the plaintiffs. According to the SPLC, this marks the first time a US court has found that homosexuality is not a mental disease.

Just so you know I am embarrassed that I did not realize that the courts had not already made this determination decades ago.

By comparison the psychiatric community stopped listing homosexuality as a mental illness back in 1973.

That is also somewhat shocking considering what we know today about sexuality, but the fact that it took the courts more than forty years to reach the same conclusion is mind blowing.

Finally, sane opinion. When will they report that being republican or tea party IS a mental disorder?

  2. I guess it's mentally normal for men to want other men's sexual organs shoved up their fecal holes. Because that's what sex is all about. Semen fertilizing feces in the large intestine.

Please refer to the surveys of married hetersexual couples whose male members practice the same on their female counterparts.

Sex is not meant only to "fertilize." Homosexuality also is expressed in several ways. You're also forgetting about lesbians. So, it's evident, you know nothing about the topic.

      The American Notice 4:51 AM:
Are you really that clueless about human nature? You really should study a subject in-depth before you try to make any lucid comment on it. You just make yourself look stupid otherwise.

Oh, BTW, by in-depth I'm not talking about the Bible either. Fairy tales don't count.

Yet another anti-homosexual who takes a great deal of interest in describing anal sex between men. Exactly how much time do you spend thinking about it? How excited were you to write that little diatribe?

You know what should be listed as a mental disorder?
    Fundamentalist religious belief.

Lawsuit. Over what? Those guys voluntarily signed up for the therapy. Why? Evidently they knew there was something wrong in their sexuality, why else would they seek help?
btw, Morris Dees, is filthy rich from peddling his own brand of hate.

"...why else would they seek help?"

My first guess would be: too much religion pushed upon them by their parents. It really can leave people so screwed up they can't function. I've seen it before and it will happen again, unfortunately.

"why else would they seek help."

Wow, you are completely clueless. This is the kind of ignorance we are still dealing with in 2015.

Hhhmmm. Seems to me this idiot troll doesn't seem to understand the term FRAUD. Nor does he understand that FRAUD is illegal and is NOT limited to suit dimly because someone honestly believed what the "seller" was saying. FRAUD is FRAUD. Period. THAT'S what you sue for in ANY case where snake oil is sold. If a person is genuinely attempting to have anything corrected and is "taken to the cleaners" by FRAUD, there is a legitimate case for suit.

      That should read SIMPLY because!

They signed up for therapy probably because they'd been told all their lives, and by society, that there was something wrong about them, not because they felt there was something wrong. That's why they would seek "help" -- to try to fit into a society that made no room for them.
Why do you bring up Morris Dees, totally out of the blue? He's not filthy rich? He hasn't peddled any brand of hate. He's tried to do just the opposite.
Why not go back under your self-selected rock?

Morris Dees is the head of the SPLC and is sitting on a $250 million bank account, that's why. You might wanna try doing your own research instead swallowing the bullshit peddled by the MSM.

Dees foundation has taken hits for many years for spending a lot on fundraising. He's also spent more than anyone else, when it mattered, on supporting the rights of minorities in the entrenched South. Look it up.

Our own Minnesota Tundra Turd, Michelle Bachmann is married to a fruit if there ever was one. Of course, he is a therapist who has been praying away the gay and ripping people off for years. Fact. They are almost as great as panhandling as the Palins. They also collect substantial farm subsidies and Michelle is the first to obstruct any social assistance bills.
Do not read this hysterical article about their mistakenly booked gay Caribbean cruise with liquid in hand!
Much better than the Sunday funnies....

Another interesting article about Marcus Bachmann and his "practice."
For starters, he sports "not too rigorous" credentials.
His sidekick has college mill creds.
Yeah. I'd want my gay friends to let them screw with my head.
