67 year old Georgia "patriot" plants bomb in park in order to convince people that terrorism is coming to America. Can't argue with that logic.

Courtesy of Raw Story:

A 67-year-old Marietta, Georgia man is accused of planting a backpack containing two pipe bombs in an Atlanta-area public park in order to frighten the public and sow fear of Islamic terrorism.

According to Atlanta’s Channel 2 News, conservative “patriot” Michael Sibley confessed to police that he was trying to educate people that terror strikes can happen anywhere and without warning when he planted the bombs last November.

The backpack contained two partially-constructed pipe bombs, a Koran and a list of “soft targets” for terrorist attacks — i.e., non-military, unguarded structures like hospitals and schools. Among the list of potential targets was an Atlanta Jewish center.

Channel 2 quoted Sibley’s arrest report, which reported that he “(s)tated that he is a ‘patriot’ and he felt no one was paying attention to what was going on the world. Sibley felt if he placed the package in a Roswell park then people would finally get that this type of activity could happen anywhere.”

You know I already knew we were in danger of terrorists here in America.

They're called "domestic terrorists" and we are already well aware that they pose a much greater threat to our citizens than do Islamic terrorists.

His "logic" doesn't surprise me at all. Lunatic. I hope they throw the book at him and publicize his punishment across the country as a warning to other nuts not to do things like that.

I swear, the idiocy present in this country is appalling and frightening. So this knuckle dragger planned on injuring and killing his fellow Americans and pin it on Islamic terrorists to “educate” his countrymen that terrorism could happen anywhere in America? You can’t make this excrement up. We truly are living in an era of idiocracy in the U S.

The very first thing his lawyer will state in the guy's defense will probably be that the so-called "bombs" were incomplete.

I see this guy ending up being adjudged insane and then released after a bit of time in the funny farm.

He sure as hell better be tried and convicted for domestic terrorism.

I'll bet money Sibley is a "Christian" who had no qualms about planning to blame it on Muslims. Guess he didn't remember the commandment "thou shalt not bear false witness" not to mention "thou shalt not kill".

Damn, I'd think that Palin, Nugent, and their ilk would be all over this, giving this guy a big high 5 for his efforts!

Come on $arah, we know you want to dump on the FBI for oppressing the rights of such a great patriot!

I would suspect that Sarah Palin doesn't like to talk about domestic terrorism....

I will bet anyone that “patriot” Michael Sibley voted for McCain/Palin in 2008.

In a survey conducted last year by David
Schanzer, Charles Kurzman, and the Police
Executive Research Forum, 382 police chiefs
and sheriffs across the United States reported
their perception of the threat of violent
extremism in their jurisdictions. Only 3 percent
rated Al-Qaeda inspired violent extremism as
a severe threat, half the proportion that rated
other forms of violent extremism as severe
threats. Full results of this survey will be
      reported later this year.14
Another study by the START Center at the
University of Maryland found that there has
been more individual radicalization from the
far right than among Muslims in the United
States.15 Recent radicals on the right include
Eric Matthew Frein, who allegedly shot two
state troopers in Pennsylvania, killing one of
them; Dennis R. Marx, who allegedly tried to
take over a courthouse in Georgia with
firearms and explosives; and Robert James
Talbot, Jr., who allegedly plotted to rob banks,
attack mosques, and kill police in Texas and
federal officials in Washington, D.C., in order
      to “restore America Pre-Constitutionally” and
“stop … the Regime with action by
      bloodshed.”

The Southern Poverty Law Center is a group that studies extremist groups in the US. At least once a year they publish a map of the US showing where these groups are located. It is particularly sad to think that the election of President Obama, who is serving the citizens of this country magnificently, has fueled much of the far right extremism. The spectrum on the right include include neo-Nazis and white supremacists. They can be found in pockets all over the country. I think that Charles Kurzman is on target with his comment.

A steady diet of Fox Noise and constant exposure to the insanity in the RW echo chamber can push these types of fools to act. There was a fellow who engaged in a gun battle with the California Highway Patrol after being pulled over for driving erratically; he was on his way to kill folks who worked for the nonprofit and harmless Tides Foundation in San Francisco. He admitted he was driven to act after listening to
    Glenn Beck conspiracy theories.

For the finest in fear mongering one must only dial in to Alex Jones. His latest "they are coming to take you away to a FEMA camp" is claiming that a military training exercise planned for 8 weeks this summer in the southwest titled "Jade Helm" is a secret plan for martial law (otherwise known as Marshall Law, by the RWNJ). This is exactly the type of fear mongering that incites unstable and delusional persons to plan attacks

      Sheesh

Would add: many of these end-timers actually profit from their fear, like Beck (selling gold), Huckabee and loads of Mormons (selling 'survivalist' gear), and Palin (hoping to raise PAC money, and 'selling' her internet site), etc. Paranoids all of them, creating other paranoids for fun and profit (because who wants to hide under the bed alone?!).

It drives conservatives crazy when the rest of us refuse to live in their natural habitat: a state of constant paranoia and fear. Those people actually want us to believe that being terrified of anything and everything that they can IMAGINE is "being realistic".

Just more evidence that Conservatism is a mental illness.
