Nebraska woman files suit against all homosexuals. That's right, all of you!

Courtesy of NBC News:

A Nebraska woman identifying herself as the "ambassador" for plaintiffs "God and His Son, Jesus Christ," is suing all homosexuals on Earth for breaking "religious and moral laws," according to court records filed Tuesday.

In the suit, entered into the docket as Driskell v. Homosexuals, Sylvia Ann Driskell, 66, of Auburn, Nebraska, asks in a seven-page, neatly handwritten petition (PDF) that U.S. District Judge John M. Gerrard decide once and for all whether homosexuality is or isn't a sin.

The suit doesn't cite any case law under which a judge could make such a determination. In fact, it cites no court cases at all, quoting Webster's Dictionary and numerous Bible verses, instead, to bolster Driskell's central contention, which is:

"That homosexuality is a sin and that they the homosexuals know it is a sin to live a life of homosexuality. Why else would they have been hiding in the closet."

Driskell writes, "I'm sixty six years old, an [sic] I never thought that I would see the day in which our Great Nation or Our Great State of Nebraska would become so compliant to the complicity of some peoples [sic] lewd behavior."

Yeah gay people, if you didn't think what you were doing was a sin why are you hiding in your closets?

Perfectly legitimate question.

For an idiot.

But then who am I to question an "Ambassador for God?"

Here is a portion of her seven page, handwritten lawsuit, courtesy of the Independent:

Entitled “Sylvia Ann Driskell vs Homosexuals”, the handwritten seven-page lawsuit filed on Tuesday bases the case on Bible passages and definitions from Webster’s Dictionary.

“I, Sylvia Ann Driskell, ambassador for the plaintiffs – God and His son, Jesus Christ – petition your honor and the court…to be heard in the matter of homosexuality,” it reads.

“Is homosexuality a sin or not a sin?”

The documents go on to use passages from Leviticus and Romans to contend that God punished homosexuality as an “abomination”.

Okay I have a small question.

If being one of "teh gays" is really a sin, then won't those participating in "teh gay" sex be punished by God?

Why does this lunatic, I'm sorry,  good Christian woman feel the need to take this to court?

In fact why does ANY Christian feel the need do ANYTHING to punish or marginalize the LGBT community if they really believe their lifestyle is sinful and that engaging in sin is what denies you access to the Pearly Gates? Why isn't that considered punishment enough?

So confusing.

Personally I hope this case actually goes to trial. I think it would be a hoot.

gluttony is a sin. Maybe God is on vacation, because the obesity epidemic sure doesn't look like God is on the job with policing sinners.

Ok, I want to sue God. Where exactly does he live so he can be served? Ooooh! I can instantly win on a summary judgement!

    I agree.
If God hates all this stuff,
    1. why did he create it? and
    2. why doesn't he destroy it?
Why is it necessary for an all powerful god to need so much help from humans to do anything?
If God is going to punish people for actions, why not just let him do it? Are religious people doubting the power and ability of God?

  5. I totally left the word "woman" of of my headline.

Made it look like the entire state of Nebraska was suing gay people.

This may be my favorite part:

    Defendants:
    Homosexuals
    Their Given Name Homosexuals
    Their, Alis Gay

It will be thrown out because
    1. Plaintiff has no standing
    2. Plaintiff has no legal argument
    3. Plaintiff is cuckoo

Looks like the term "frivolous" applies here.

The Judge will just dismiss it because there is no complainant [ God] it would be like filing on behalf of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

    1. Clearly God named her as ambassador, so I think that provides legal standing.

      Your logic eats itself.

In a civil suit, she would have to show that the Plaintiff (all-powerful, all-knowing, omni-present, ever-lasting, etc.) has been harmed by the Defendants.

How to monetize hurt feelings or anger? Perhaps loss of consortium if homosexuals won't declare their love for him? Or maybe loss of business, if these wretched sinners aren't tithing? (Of course, if god created everything, god owns everything, so how can he suffer a loss of income?)

And the matter of Double Jeopardy enters the picture. If homosexuals are punished here and now for their "crime", they can't be punished later for the same thing.

If I was god, I'd be terribly upset if the powers of judgment and punishment were taken out of my hands. Terribly, terribly upset. So upset that I'd surround her home with feral pigs to devour the greedy usurper and her kin to the 7th degree (or some other definitive act.)

Then write "Judgement is Mine, do not forget it again" in flaming letters.

  9. She's right. Don't you remember how Massachusetts, the first state with marriage equality, immediately broke off the continent and drown in the North Atlantic...?

Bring popcorn, The Crazy between now and the ruling is gonna be the greatest show on Earth.

  10. Again, I have to ask. WHY is being gay the only sin they care about?

It is not a sin except in the mind of the zealot, their eyes burning bright with signs of the madness that lies within. They have to have something to hate or their pitiful little lives would have no meaning.

    2. For the same reason racists don't worry that they're going to wake up black tomorrow. For the same reason men, and women beyond child bearing years need sacrifice nothing opposing the abortion option for others. If the thing that charges your life and makes you feel empowered is demonizing others, you pick a group with a "failing" you know will never be your own.

They care because so many of them are repressed homosexuals. And being anti gay is their favorite
      form of self flagellation.

Something tells me Sylvia Ann leads a sad, pathetic life. How does one become ambassador for God? If God was concerned in the least, you'd think he wouldn't have admonished heterosexuals over and over again in the good book. Homosexuals, not so much.

    Sylvia,
when you die and get to the Pearly Gates
St. Peter isn't going to ask you what you did to make life more miserable for gay people...
he's going to ask you what you did to HELP the poor.

  20. Clown can't use an apostrophe (or spell it, I'm guessing). Because it's so close to Mother's Day, I'm not going to use the word I think is far more appropriate than 'clown.'

Obviously this woman has no concept of the separation of church and state, which is a bulwark of our Constitution. Oh, the poor judge. He's probably banging his head against a wall right now thinking that this woman has had the right to vote all these years and still has not got a clue about the Constitution. At least, I hope that is what he is doing.

  23. To answer your question, G, it isn't enough for Christians to believe people will be punished in the next life. Probably because that is out of their control and area of authority.

They want them punished right here and now in this life, so they can watch them suffer.

Apparently they skipped the lest ye be judged part of the Bible. They especially missed the casting the first stone part.

Christianity, at least the right wing Puritan kind that seems to be enjoying such a resurgence the last few decades, seems to me to be a very masochistic and sadistic version of Christianity. For some reason they feel since they are going to be rewarded in the next life, they need to pay for it by suffering in this life. They need to deprive themselves of food, or money, of sex, anything pleasant and enjoyable, like dancing or movies. If it feels good it must be a sin.

I'm surprised flagellation isn't coming back in mainstream Southern Baptist churches.

And don't forget to fill that collection plate. You don't deserve a house, a car, a winter coat or a nice steak. The Minister will enjoy it for you while heading to his ski vacation first class during the holidays while you are still working two jobs. You just shut up and eat your gruel in your cold water flat. Stick some newspapers in your shoes; that will be good enough.
