David Sweat, the second escaped fugitive, has been wounded and taken into custody.

Courtesy of the New York Daily News:

Escaped inmate David Sweat has been shot and is in custody, a source told the Daily News Sunday.

The fugitive's capture, which could not be immediately confirmed by authorities, signaled a possible end to the 23-day manhunt.

The source said that Sweat was seriously wounded but still alive. The news came as an autopsy on Clinton Correctional Facility escapee Richard Matt revealed he was shot in the head three times by a U.S. Customs agent, authorities announced Sunday.

As I am sure all of you know Sweat's partner, Richard W. Matt, was killed a few days ago by the authorities, so the good news for this guy at least is that he is going to live long enough to find himself back behind bars.

Just like his partner Sweat was also in prison for murder, so once again it is good news that both of these men are no longer free to commit more crimes, or perhaps take more lives.

How do you shoot someone in the head three times and not kill them?

      From KTLA:

"He was taken into custody in the town of Constable, in upstate New York, close to the Canadian border.

“At approximately 3:20 p.m. on June 28, Sergeant Jay Cook of the New York State Police spotted a suspicious man walking down a roadway,” state police said in a statement.

“Sergeant Cook shot and injured Clinton Correctional Facility escapee David Sweat. Sweat was taken into police custody alive, then taken to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries,” it read.

Sweat was transported to the Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone, an officer at the hospital told CNN. His condition was not immediately clear. A law enforcement source said Sweat was shot twice."

this guy was shot someplace else

Perhaps it was in the rotunda—a painful spot, for those who remember that far back. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rR_5h8CzRcI

CNN was hoping he was hiding in the fuselage of MH370 ... it would have been a ratings bonanza. OR

that David is a black guy living as a white guy.

Finally! MSNBC and CNN has been covering this escape incessantly and saying nothing. Do they actually have viewers?

I hope the woman who assisted in their escape, thereby endangering the public and law enforcement, spends the rest of her life incarcerated, as well. I read that she had arranged for these two to kill her husband.

It's encouraging to see good police work for a change.

How many cops did it take to get these guys? How much did it cost? Who paid the bill for the searchers/cops? State or Federal? Has an investigation been launched into this particular prison from which they escaped? How do these security people work within prisons? Sounds horribly messed up!

Plus, the TV coverage was never ending and ridiculous....I made myself watch one of the channels for a half hour and the same questions were asked of folks being interviewed, with no one knowing anything! Absolutely a waste of time by the networks and for viewers.

The twitter talk was far more coherent and accurate than the networks. Many local people living ordinary lives gave updates to twitter, not trying to make a big deal, just say what was happening around them.

I followed one guy's twitter that interspersed cop sightings with the progress of getting in the hay. The 2nd inmate was captured just a mile or so from his house. The twitter comments are a masterpiece of understated vignettes.

I am so sorry Gryph, but wanted to drop this most delicious comment re: Bristol's new screed. From LGF:

"She ‘chose life’ the way an alley cat does. It’s biology. Family planning is what she’s lacking."

    Oh lol. -SJP

Bet a movie of this escape is being pitched as the news breaks. Any guesses as to casting?

Sweat is en route to Albany trauma centre; condition: stable.

Sweat is apparently from my home town. Ugh.

    Glad they got him.

They're sending him to a hospital that has preperation for prisoners, and is a certified trauma center. For a bullet wound to the shoulder? Like someone else asked, I'd like to know how much this search cost us, because it was money well invested.
I hope Sweat sings like a bird and names names of those others who helped him plot, plan, and execute this escape. That woman was "in love", and apparently needs some serious help herself. They didn't get all the tools snuck in "in frozen meat".
So glad it's finally over and no innocent people got injured or killed.

A spokes person for the private for profit prison system. Mr Sweat. He can now write the book on "How I did it" and "WHO" helped. The guy just received a gift.
