I told you I got this. |
Josh Earnest said the closure of the Cuban detention camp was a national security interest.
Mr Earnest said the administration was "in the final stages of drafting a plan to safely and responsibly (close) the prison at Guantanamo Bay and to present that to Congress".
He added: "That has been something that our national security officials have been working on for quite some time, primarily because it is a priority of the president."
So if this is correct it would mean that the promise that Obama made at the very beginning of his presidency, and the one that the Republicans have blocked at ever opportunity, will finally come to fruition.
This will of course be great news going forward as Gitmo is often used by terrorists as proof of America's hypocrisy and confirmation of their evil.
Besides it costs the country 2.7 million dollars per year to house prisoners in Guantanamo, so you would think that so-called fiscal conservative Republicans would be totally behind this closure.
You misspelled "Bucket." :-)
ReplyDeleteYou GO, my president!
ReplyDeleteBut, wait! If the Republicans want to bomb Iran, they might need all the prisons they can get.
ReplyDeleteIf we release all the young men in prison for having an ounce of marijuana, we might have enough room for all the traitorous Congressmen in the GOP, and STILL close Gitmo.
DeleteGood point, SallyinMI!
DeleteObama has been making history since he was elected
ReplyDeleteNext record breaking event? Debunking the myths of the "lame duck".
Look at what he is accomplishing both in the final years of his last term and with a Republican controlled house and senate (and Supreme Court if you want to go that far.)
He is going to continue to work and make history until his final days in office.
It's like giving a big middle finger to Ms. Quittypants.
Iran nuclear deal, Guantanamo.
What can top these? Is he going to try for peace in the middle east between Israel and Palestine?
Sarah Palin's topic for tomorrow will be Guantanamo Bay facility, which she will recall as a battleground where brave Americans fought somebody-or-other and she will accuse the President of helping terrorists.

She wouldn't dare. Remember the shocking pics of their treatment? Oh wait......I forgot water boarding is how "we" baptize. OH do I loathe her.
DeletePresident Barack Obama opened up about the "greatest frustration" of his time in the White House, telling the BBC he'd like to do more to pass common-sense gun safety laws.

Well, things are moving forward on Cuba, so it is all lining up for our lovely president.
ReplyDeleteA U.S. Senate committee on Thursday approved amendments that would end restrictions on travel by Americans to Cuba and ease some trade barriers, advancing efforts to implement President Barack Obama’s rapprochement with the communist island.
By an 18-12 vote, the Republican-controlled Appropriations Committee backed a measure that would ease travel limits, making it the first legislation to pass any congressional committee to facilitate normalization of relations.
Four Republicans joined 14 Democrats to approve the amendment.
The committee later passed other amendments, by voice vote without objections, to a Financial Services appropriations bill to allow private financing for U.S. agricultural sales and lift restrictions on ships that call at Cuban ports.
Attaching the amendments to the appropriations bill boosts the likelihood they will come up for a vote in the full Senate. To become law, a version of the bill with the amendments must pass the House of Representatives.
“This is a first step by the Senate to dismantle a failed, discredited and counterproductive policy that in 54 years has failed to achieve any of its objectives,’ said Democratic Senator Patrick Leahy, a long-time opponent of Cuba sanctions.
“These votes were not about the repugnant policies of the Castro regime, but about doing away with unwarranted impediments to travel and commerce imposed on Americans by our own government,” he said.
Obama and Cuban President Raul Castro announced on Dec. 17 that they would move toward normal relations between the former Cold War foes for the first time in half a century. Cuba opened its embassy in Washington on Monday.

Marco Rubio’s Coded Racism
ReplyDelete...Now, there are some people who have a knee-jerk aversion to the r-word, unless there’s a burning cross made of n-words to back it up, so before we proceed, let’s put Rubio’s statement to the RAF™ Test. The attack itself, “no class,” is a popular variation on the “know your place” variety of racism, and is a companion to the “uppity” attack. When you’re uppity, you don’t know your place, and when you have no class, you don’t know how to act while you’re being uppity and not knowing your place. Think “ghetto,” an attack that has been lobbed at President and Mrs. Obama by many conservatives, and others.
As any good racist who doesn’t think he’s a racist (which is all of them) will tell you, though, it isn’t racist if it’s true. Simply calling a black president classless isn’t necessarily racist, since a president of any color obviously has the potential to be classy or not. However, if you’re going to make a criticism that is also a popular racial attack, the burden of proof is on you to prove that what you’re saying is actually true, and not just an appeal to racists who hate Obama, yet just can’t seem to say why.

$2.9 million per prisoner. $453 million in 2014
ReplyDeleteCan someone tell me again, what exactly is it that a lame duck President does?
ReplyDeleteBecause this President is making it look too easy. If this is what others call "leading from behind", I'm all for it.
Este lugar es horrible.
ReplyDeleteGuantanamo? Si lo es.
