Planned Parenthood releases 5 facts about those doctored videos that we all need to know. Update!

Courtesy of Planned Parenthood:

1. Nowhere does anyone from Planned Parenthood discuss "selling" fetal tissue.

Even the heavily edited video from extreme anti-abortion activists doesn't show this or make this accusation. It simply doesn't happen.

On the video, the Planned Parenthood staff member talks about standard reimbursement fees for costs associated with tissue donation programs, which every health care provider has and which the federal law provides for.

2. Planned Parenthood helps patients who wish to donate fetal tissue, just like other health care providers do.

Some Planned Parenthood affiliates have programs for women and families who want to donate tissue to leading research institutions that will use it to help find treatment and cures for diseases like Parkinson's and Alzheimer's.

These programs are just like any other high-quality health care provider's — they follow all ethics and laws, patients consent fully, and nobody benefits financially.

3. The people who launched this campaign have a track record of making totally false claims.

The person leading this campaign used to be a senior staff member at Live Action, which for seven years has made false claims that have been widely discredited by journalists and independent organizations; Forbes Magazine noted that their claims about Planned Parenthood "fall apart upon close inspection."

4. The fact that far-right, anti-abortion politicians are latching onto this doesn't make it any more credible or real.

GOP politicians remain in a race to prove who can be the worst on women's health, and this story is no exception.

Whether it's Carly Fiorina's social media page or Bobby Jindal's sham "investigation," none of the partisan attempts to make this a real story change the fact that it's a highly edited video from anti-abortion activists who have made false charges for years, now making claims with no basis in reality and no evidence to back them up.

 5. The full, 2.5-hour video shows selective editing that twists and distorts what was said on the tape.

Late in the day, the Live Action-offshoot group released a longer video. It shows that the Planned Parenthood staffer was talking in the context of stem cell research, and was talking about standard reimbursement rates for costs associated with tissue donation — all of which was edited to change the meaning.

The 2.5-hour video also shows that the Planned Parenthood staffer's discussion of brain stem tissue that can help researchers study brain tumors and spinal chord injuries was distorted by editing to make it appear that she was talking about trafficking body parts, which she clearly wasn't.

Not to be a Debbie Downer, but there is a problem with all of this.

They are facts. And as we know the conservatives are driven by faith, in this case faith that Planned Parenthood is an abortion providing fetal parts mill, and not facts.

As much as I hate to say it, this video and the response by conservative politicians to it, will have dire consequences for Planned Parenthood.

Don't believe me? Well then tell me, when was the last time you visited the offices of ACORN?

Update: Cecile Richards, President of Planned Parenthood, now has a video response

  1. Caroll Thompson4:44 PM

One of the unintended consequences of this will be that Planned Parenthood will cease to exist and then the abortion rate will skyrocket.

Planned Parenthood is the Number 1 provider of contraception to low income women in the United States.

But I agree with you G; things don't look good for Planned Parenthood.

  2. Anonymous4:46 PM

I think it is time for Planned Parenthood to set up a GoFundMe account. The kristian right wing has been trying to end abortions since Roe V Wade passed decades ago. If progressive voters don't start showing up in mid-year elections, we can say goodbye to any common sense legislation in the U.S.

    1. Anonymous6:29 PM

I think the time is for POTUS to totally Federally fund Planned Parenthood under the ACA.

    2. Anonymous8:29 PM

      6:29, brilliant!

    3. Anonymous9:12 PM

correction; the proper spelling of "kristian" is; KKKrystian, our very own domestic Taliban ...

    4. Anonymous9:34 PM

Kristian. I like that. I'll take it, if you don't mind.

  3. Anonymous4:52 PM

Where is all of the fetal tissue from these 2010 photos?

  4. I hope that your pessimism isn't prophetic. I used this bullshit story as a stimulus for a donation to Planned Parenthood.

I hope others will join me.

    1. Anonymous5:48 PM

      I did too.

FACTS are a foreign concept for the Cristo-Fascists in our country. So, not sure if this will help at all. They will just double-down on their insistence that PP is all about abortions, and abortions ONLY.

    2. Anonymous9:51 AM

      Same here

  5. Anonymous5:04 PM

It is just so sad that an organization that does nothing but good for women must publicly defend itself from baseless allegations.

Fuck you right wingers; you don't use Planned Parenthood, you have a thousand babies out of wedlock and henceforth make ME pay for them with MY tax dollars to fund YOUR welfare and food stamps, yet an organization that tries to prevent your mistakes which you birth and then raise on a diet of hamburger helper using my tax dollars is an organization of bad intent?

Fuck all you red state welfare moms, I hope we start to drug test you and cut most of you off due to your drug abuse and the abuse of the system. I know that you can only be on welfare for 5 years now, which is wonderful, but for 99% of you it is 5 years to many.

Birth control bitches, learn it use it because soon we are going to cut you off.

    1. Anonymous9:53 PM

      Lol. Liberals cutting off welfare!....Hahahahahaaaa!

      Good one!

    2. Anonymous10:21 PM

Now why would you assume I'm a liberal? Did that statement sound liberal to you at all? We are not all liberals over here ya know, some of us are just good old lifelong Republicans. My family would absolutely disown me if I were to register as a Democrat!

    3. Anonymous10:25 PM

And yes, I called people "right wingers" and referred to "red states" but I don't consider the far right "base" as true republicans, not old school republicans, just a bunch of uneducated takers who are bringing down the level of discourse. Just wanted to clarify my previous comments as I did seem like a Dem in my original comment but I'm anything but.

    4. Anonymous11:00 AM

Welcome to the IM discussion. We need all kinds of opinions as long as they are thoughtful and fact based. That makes good discussion and healthy debate.

  6. Anonymous5:05 PM

PP's fate really concerns me too. I think it is much more influential than Acorn, and Democrats will stand up for it in a way they wouldn't stand up for Acorn (to their shame), but this is still going to hurt them big time.

    1. Anonymous9:08 PM

The democratic party (no caps, fucking weasels) won't do $h*t for PP.

  7. Agree, Anon 5:05. PP needs to fight back agressively; I hope they sue the shit out of James O'Keefe and that gang.

    1. Anonymous6:53 PM

If you go to the bogus website you can't get any info on them at all. No contact. Just a big banner page to investigate PP. It seems they posed as biotech and took the woman out to lunch or dinner gave her wine and then secretly filmed it. That little fucker James Okeefe! Why aren't everyone on the left wary or his ass? He did go to jail doing this shit before? Or something. This could be a violation of his parole? I think its absolutely disgusting and even my local news jumped on it. I tweeted them IM b/c G had put up a very comprehensive post about it.

  8. Anonymous5:27 PM

Has anyone watched this video? I haven't the stomach. I am pro-choice, and a pro-choice friend of mine did watch it. She was horrified by the women's language and attitude, said she was a crass human being. If this is true, one would hope that most folks would separate the person from all the good PP has done as an organization. She sounds like a poor representative for PP.

    1. Anonymous8:15 PM

And that's the likely reason they chose her for this manipulated video.

    2. Anonymous9:33 PM

If you're a grown woman who's afraid to watch the video because you fear it's crass then perhaps you could get a big man to watch it with you, honey.

    3. Anonymous10:17 PM

Hello! In case you hadn't noticed PP deals with the most basic, animalistic instincts within humans, sex and reproduction. Their chosen field is crassness and "base" personified.

    4. Anonymous10:19 PM

Hmmm, if you are such a prissy pants I have a hard time believing you spend very much time here at IM. If the woman on the video offends you, you must really be clasping those pearls each time someone calls Bristol Palin a "sperm burpin' retard".

    5. Anonymous5:50 AM

5:27 I know exactly what you mean. Ignore the mean vicious answers you received from some here. They act just like c4p.

    6. Anonymous8:29 AM

(CNN)Planned Parenthood's president apologized Thursday for a top official's tone in a controversial video, but she also denied the clip's allegation that her organization profits from tissue donation.

"Our top priority is the compassionate care that we provide. In the video, one of our staff members speaks in a way that does not reflect that compassion. This is unacceptable, and I personally apologize for the staff member's tone and statements," said Cecile Richards, the group's president, in a video out Thursday. "As always, if there is any aspect of our work that can be strengthened, we want to know about it, and we take swift action to address it."

    7. Anonymous2:35 PM

That's how doctors -- especially surgeons -- talk when they believe they're among other medical professionals. They're not sentimental about organs and tissue and the things they cut into and cut out. Personally, I wouldn't want a surgeon who was sentimental about bodily tissue; I'd like one with the necessary clinical detachment that would allow him or her to focus on the job that needs to be done.

  9. Anonymous5:36 PM

Incredible it is 2015 and the Republicans/Christians are still spend our tax money turning the USA into a third world country.

    1. Anonymous9:17 PM

      exfuckinzactly !!

  10. Rep. Tim Murphy [R], a member of the House Pro-Life Caucus and chairman of the Energy and Commerce subcommittee looking into the video, said at a Wednesday news conference he’d seen the clip weeks before. Asked afterward why he and others waited until this week to take action, Murphy struggled for an answer before abruptly ending the interview with CQ Roll Call, saying he should not be quoted and remarking, “This interview didn’t happen.”

Here’s an excerpt from CQ Roll Call’s hallway chat with Murphy:

CQ Roll Call: “So, what I wondered was, what’s happened in those few weeks? Why is it coming out now and not earlier?”

Murphy: “Um, I don’t know why. All I know is I saw it and he said he was going to post it eventually, so that’s all I know.”

Another Pro-Life Caucus and Judiciary committee member, GOP Rep. Trent Franks of Arizona, said Wednesday he had also seen the video about a month ago.
The video, shot a year ago by the anti-abortion group Center for Medical Progress, shows an interview with a Planned Parenthood executive who discusses, between bites of salad and sips of red wine, the costs charged to researchers for organs taken from fetuses.

Officials at Planned Parenthood contend the video was edited to create the appearance of the start of a financial transaction. Planned Parenthood also said it only donates fetal organs and tissue when the mother has explicitly given consent, in accordance with the law.

The Center for Medical Progress did not respond to repeated requests for comment.

  11. Hugh G. Rection5:59 PM

Donation has been sent to PP.

    1. Thank you. I hope more and more people respond to this bogus story in the way you just did.

  12. Anonymous6:17 PM

Planned Parenthood can issues all the clarifications and facts they want: too late. The highly doctored video is out there, especially on Fox. Fox News doesn't deal in 'after the fact' truths. Just like Benghazi. Nitwit numb nuts like Palin will run with doctored videos and turn them into fund raising propaganda.

    1. Fox Noise doesn't deal with facts or truth. A judge gave them permission to lie and make stuff up.

  13. Grrrr !6:38 PM

A possible #6: if the video DOES reveal that PP committed such heinous crimes, why was it merely posted online rather than instantly given to the appropriate law enforcement entity?

  14. Anonymous6:53 PM

Ok magazine says barstool reveals Darkota as pappa daddy...unless that's old news...

    1. Anonymous7:08 PM

I think it must be an older story where a "friend close to Palin" said it was Dohkotas. Even Bristle isn't stoopid enough to give out an outright lie on the paternity of Cletus the Fetus.

    2. LOL.

And she'll name the baby TRAPP.

  15. Anonymous7:28 PM

O/T Meghan Mccain suppose to be commentating on faux noos, wonder if she did this to get under $arah skin.:)

    1. Anonymous9:28 PM

I doubt Meghan McCain would bother herself with Sarah Palin's skin. Close up, it's not very nice skin at all. Neither is Bristol's but Bristol knows which filters to use to conceal her blemishes for all those ego-driven selfies.

  16. Anonymous8:00 PM

yoo hoo...Medicaid Expansion is a BFD. Here in TN the legislature has voted it down several times. We are still dominated by those who have hatred for the president and a total disregard for our citizens.
Congratulations to the Governor of Alaska for doing the right thing for his state despite the republican legislatures unwillingness to put people before politics.

  17. Anonymous8:24 PM

Tomorrow I am speaking with my lawyer about a legacy donation for Planned Parenthood. The idea my children and grandchildren will have no obvious advocate for their reproductive needs makes me sick. And knowing there are people like the Palins who are dumb as bricks making baseless claims about Planned Parenthood and getting away with it is simply outrageous.

    1. Anonymous8:33 PM

      Thank you 8:24

    2. That's a wonderful action you're taking. I hope others are inspired by what you're doing and follow suit.

I still believe the truth is stronger than lies and that American people are changing. Look at the massive support for marriage equality, surveys done eight years ago didn't show a majority supporting it, that change was rapid. Planned Parenthood is not down for the count, far from it.

    3. Anonymous10:03 PM

    4. Anonymous10:14 PM

If my parents did something like that with their money I'd be more than a little pissed, but to each their own.

    5. Anonymous10:27 PM

      Exactly 10:54.

Frankly I wasn't aware that society had dumbed down so much that apparently the only place people can get any knowledge or wisdom regarding reproduction, and condoms, is planned parenthood!

    6. 10:27, where do you think women without a lot of disposable income go for Pap smears, to be fitted for a diaphragm, to be treated for a UTI, to get a prescription for birth control pills? They go to Planned Parenthood. They go there because it's affordable, it's accessible, and has some of the finest medical staff working there that you'd ever encounter anywhere. It has nothing to do with "dumbing down" society.

    7. Anonymous6:17 AM

Barbara, aren't all those procedures and treatments available to everyone with insurance? Is not everyone required to be insured by the ACA? Frankly, anyone who can't afford birth control, should have bigger concerns in life than getting outfitted for a diaphram. Don't you?

    8. Do you understand that despite the ACA there are still co-pays and prescription costs that lower income women cannot afford? Do you understand accessibility? Low income and poor women don't have cars, that's why the Planned Parenthood facility in my city is on the bus line. And it has extended weekday and weekend hours so that the working poor are able to go to the clinic without having to take time off from what is already a low paying job.

And I guess you think poor people shouldn't be allowed to have sex? That they "should have bigger concerns in life than getting outfitted for a diaphram

    9. Anonymous10:49 AM

"Frankly, anyone who can't afford birth control, should have bigger concerns in life than getting outfitted for a diaphram."

This may be the dumbest thing I've read all day.

Fox Guest Pummels Planned Parenthood Edited Video: ‘This Is Right-Wing Pornography’ (VIDEO)

...Robert Zimmerman then cuts in with a whole boatload of knowledge:

“What infuriates me Megyn — is the fraud behind this video. Let’s call it what it is. This is right-wing pornography. The same individuals who produced this video have been called out by the press repeatedly, mainstream and even conservative press, for the same individuals producing this film that you featured tonight have been nailed for producing films that have been misleading? Have been misleading, have been editing…”

Kelly keeps going on and on trying to say that the video is accurate and hadn’t been deceptively edited, and that all of Planned Parenthood’s responses are that they have sold baby body parts, only responding that it’s not illegal.

Zimmerman then shuts her down, telling her she is just flat-out wrong. Later in the broadcast he says:

“Megyn, do you have any concern about how misleading and false this film is? How it creates false impressions and there’s nothing more than a scam.”

    1. A rare moment of truth on Fox News! Impressive.

Operation Jade Helm 15: Brave tweeter valiantly documents life in Obama-occupied Texas

Operation Jade Helm 15 began yesterday, and beards weren’t the only thing that caught Obama’s thugs’ attention. Shit got real serious real quick, according to Devin Pike and other embedded operatives on the ground:

  21. Placenta.... has anyone ever asked the hospital what they do with this organ after the baby is born? Think of what this life sustaining organ did for the 9 months the baby was in a woman's body. Give it a google.

    1. And from Be the Match;
Donate your baby’s umbilical cord blood to a public cord blood bank. The cord blood unit will be listed on the Be The Match Registry® and will be available to anyone in need.
Store your baby’s cord blood in a family cord blood bank, where it is reserved for your own family for a fee.
Save your baby’s cord blood for a biological sibling who has a medical need.
Choose to do nothing; the umbilical cord will be discarded after birth.

  22. What else is new?

This is just another smoke and mirrors attempt by the king of edit it into a lie. Typical O'Keefe. When are they going to finally nail him and send him to prison?

  23. OOooo. The plot thickens.

The makers of this video are in trouble with the IRS and may be prosecuted for fraud.

Seems they lied when filing for tax exempt status and also lied when soliciting donations.

"But as Slate reports, the Center for Medical Progress appears to be nothing more than a front organization for the anti-abortion group Live Action. That is not how the IRS understood it when considering the group's application for tax-exempt status, and not how the group originally presented itself to the public in soliciting donations.

According to new research by the Bridge Project, the policy arm of the progressive group American Bridge, the IRS granted the Center for Medical Progress tax-exempt status as a 501(c)3 nonprofit in 2013 under the classification code G92, which applies to biomedicine charities. In the National Taxonomy of Exempt Entities, which is used by the IRS, that classification covers "Diseases, Disorders, Medical Disciplines: Biomedicine, Bioengineering." So-called "right to life" groups, defined as groups that "support the passage of legislation which assigns legal rights to the unborn and seeks to criminalize the termination of unwanted pregnancies," have their own classification code with the IRS.

The IRS likely mistook the Center for Medical Progress as a biomedicine charity if the group described itself on its application much as it described itself on its original website: "a non-profit organization dedicated to informing and educating both the lay public and the scientific community about the latest advances in regenerative medicine, cell-based therapies, and related disciplines. We take a special interest in the lab-to-clinic translational dynamic and tracking its implications for academics, advocacy, private sector players, and the individual patient.”

While it was describing itself that way, the organization had a donate button on its website that asked the public to help it "continue to operate." "

"But the only thing the Center for Medical Progress appears to have done in the past two years is produce this undercover video investigation into Planned Parenthood. David Daleiden, a longtime anti-abortion activist and the center's founder, previously served as director of research for Live Action, the group that has released several sensational sting videos of Planned Parenthood over the past few years and appears to be solely dedicated to destroying the family planning provider."

And it didn't file it's tax forms. That's naughty. I know because I did the research and paperwork for our school PTA to become a 501(c)3 non profit.

"The Center for Medical Progress carried out the Planned Parenthood sting by creating a shell company, Biomax, which then sought a lunch meeting with Dr. Deborah Nucatola, the family planning provider's senior director of medical services."

You do not mess with the IRS. I hope everyone involves gets their asses handed to them, right before the huge fines and prison time.

Don't feed the trolls!
It just goes directly to their thighs.
