In his efforts to court the Evangelical vote Ted Cruz calls on over 100,000 pastors to join him in his fight to defund Planned Parenthood.

Courtesy of Raw Story:

U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, who has assiduously courted evangelicals throughout his presidential run, will take a lead role in the launch this week of an ambitious 50-state campaign to end taxpayer support for Planned Parenthood — a move that is likely to give the GOP candidate a major primary-season boost in the fierce battle for social-conservative and evangelical voters.

More than 100,000 pastors received e-mail invitations over the weekend to participate in conference calls with Cruz on Tuesday in which they will learn details of the plan to mobilize churchgoers in every congressional district beginning Aug. 30. The requests were sent on the heels of the Texas Republican’s “Rally for Religious Liberty,” which drew 2,500 people to a Des Moines ballroom Friday.

“The recent exposure of Planned Parenthood’s barbaric practices . . . has brought about a pressing need to end taxpayer support of this institution,” Cruz said in the e-mail call to action distributed by the American Renewal Project, an organization of conservative pastors.

The push comes as Cruz seeks to grab a decisive edge in a crowded primary-within-a-primary, with half a dozen GOP contenders battling for what he has referred to as “the evangelical bracket.”

You know it is a fallacy to suggest that pro-choice advocates are pro-abortion. There are virtually none of us that fit that label.

However in the case Ted Cruz as a fetus, I think I might personally have made an exception.

This guy is a complete waste of oxygen, and I seriously doubt there are very many positive results that have occurred due to his existence.

No GOP presidential political campaign is ever free from the bogeyman approach: fear, fear and more fear. And always for absolutely no rational reason.

  2. In order to maintain tax exempt status, churches ought to be required to sign a document each year swearing the church was not used to promote political activities.

They actually are...but they lie. All 501-Cs have to submit tax forms every year. And since the GOP has defunded the IRS (what's the first agency they want to eliminate?) there are not nearly enough people to even read the forms, let alone follow up..and heaven forbid they question a CHURCH!
Teddy is religious..Daddy is a pastor who has been telling him his whole life that he's been chosen by GAWD to lead America out of the darkness and into prosperity ...for their church. They plan to take the wealth from the ungodly and keep it for themselves..no kidding. Read up on the Seven Mountains...they make Hitler look sane.

How The Christian Right Ended Up Transforming American Politics

Nowadays, the power of the Christian Right is a given. But that wasn’t always the case. In the last 35 years, it’s gone from burgeoning movement to the GOP’s bread and butter. And although its power has waned in the past few years, the last three and a half decades have been remarkably successful.

On August 22, 1980, a massive National Affairs Briefing organized by preacher James Robison brought 15,000 evangelicals to Dallas to demonstrate their newfound political clout. Robison, who had been forced off the airwaves after he claimed that gays recruit children for sex, announced that day, “I’m sick and tired of hearing about all of the radicals and the perverts and the liberals and the leftists and the Communists coming out of the closet. It’s time for God’s people to come out of the closet.”

The next speaker was Republican presidential nominee Ronald Reagan, who told the crowd, “I know you can’t endorse me. But...I want you to know that I endorse you.”

This alliance between the Christian Right and the Republican Party has done nothing less than reshape American politics. Here are a few ways it did that.

I always forget Cruz is on the God Squad. Nothing in his looks or his demeanor or the way he talks makes me think he is remotely religious, let alone a die hard evangelical. Maybe that's because he's actually a snake-oil salesman, heavy on the "oil."

Let's not forget his blue chip corporate wife. Cruz doesn't give a damn about PP- like Sarah Palin, he thinks it might be a good horse to whip for a bit of attention.

I had to laugh when I heard that he was against birthright citizenship. How the fuck else did he get his US citizenship except by birthright?

Not by being born on US soil, which is what the current "birthright" thing is all about. He was born in Calgary—not to be confused with Calvary. For the geographically confused, Calgary is in Canada's province of Alberta. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ted_Cruz

Ted Powell, you are not talking to idiots. Birthright has nothing to do with geography.

If you want to talk about Republican controversies then say so, but do not try to redefine words to hit other people with them.

I repeat, you are not talking to idiots.

8:06 I don't think his mother would have relinquished her citizenship because there was no need. I think around the time that Cruz was hatched there were a number of hijackings and US citizens were singled out, but Cruz's mother never went anywhere or did anything so she wouldn't have had to worry about her citizenship being a negative.

Sir Smarmalot would best serve this country by leaving it. The alternative would be for him to simply drop dead. I'm OK with either.

If he is the "chosen one" why did God make him so very unattractive? Durely SHE knows that looks matter. Ordinary is fine, but butt-ugly is a no-no. Sloppy mouth, pathetic look on his face.

The lazy megalomaniac should have followed his father into preaching if he wanted wealth and power without working.

I laughed when I first read it. That's how the GOP operates, have a temper tantrum, when they don't get their way, bring up the specter of a government shut down.

Piyush Jindal and Rafael Cruz are both religious fanatics who have no business in politics. Both are ashamed of their family names and have adopted an Americanized name to garner votes. Republicans will not vote for a candidate with a foreign name.
