I think you have something there Gryphen. Bristol Palin has no identity beyond being the unwed and pregnant daughter of Sarah Palin. It is pretty sad when you really think about it. ReplyDeleteThat was a very astute observation and I believe it probably sums up the whole skewed viewpoint of both mom and daughter.
Reinforces my own belief that they clinically "suffer" from Borderline Personality Disorder. it's a real thing. I've known a few and they are irredeemable. There is lots of speculation on what specific cause is (nature or nurture), but the basic assumption is that people who suffer from this lack a genuine sense of self and will spend the rest of their life blaming others for EVERYTHING. Probably begins in babyhood when a senses of self fails to develop.....can be caused by REAL abandonment or some imagined sense of it.
This is what I tell myself: if literally everyone is calling me a ________ then there is probably at least some truth to it. Brissy needs to realize that. She wouldn't be criticized so much if she was making good decisions, or at the very least owning up to her bad ones and not criticizing others.

She learned the wrong lessons at Mama's knee, that's for sure. I knew a young woman who grew up with a mother who embodied many of the very worst stereotypes about civil servants. She grew up, got a similar job in the private sector, pulled the same stunts she'd watched her mother get away with all those years, and guess what, it didn't fly. Bristol's biggest problem isn't as easy as finding a way to support herself, but finding the wherewithal to rise above her upbringing. At this point she clearly doesn't even recognize that she has a problem. At least Willow shows some signs of becoming her own person.
