Arianna Huffington believes that Donald Trump has had his "Sarah Palin Moment."

Courtesy of HuffPo:

There are few things as absolute in damning a candidate as a refusal to acknowledge simple reality -- especially a candidate who says he'll be tough with our enemies but refuses to even stand up to his own supporters. Refusing to acknowledge that Obama was born in this country is the equivalent of refusing to say that the earth is round. Even Trump's own supporters are embarrassed. Mark Cuban on Real Time with Bill Maher last Friday had to scramble for cover by categorically stating that the candidate he's supporting for president "is not gonna win. He's got no chance... none."

So when will the media be embarrassed enough to refuse to continue to give Trump the large megaphone they are giving him? Not because he's the front-runner -- come on, let's stop pretending that's the reason -- but because of the ratings he fuels as the entertainer he undoubtedly is.

As Sarah Palin demonstrated, even the ratings-crazed media are capable of falling out of love with a big-ratings stunt candidate. With Trump, you can already see it happening. The cracks are beginning to show. And when the media fall out of love they fall out of love very quickly.

I actually do not agree with Arianna Huffington very often, and this is one of those times.

For one thing the statement "And when the media fall out of love they fall out of love very quickly" concerning Sarah Palin is patently false.

In fact the media gave Palin a pass for several more years than was warranted, because she was good click bait.

Just like Donald Trump.

As for Trump having his "Sarah Palin moment," he has had NOTHING BUT SARAH PALIN MOMENTS.

And yet there he sits at the top of the polls.

Donald Trump is a gaffe machine, easily rising to the level of Sarah Palinesque heights with nearly every one. But since he does not care about making them, nobody in the Republican party, aside from the other candidates of course, seems to care either.

For instance currently Palin is rushing to agree with the Donald at every opportunity, and constantly working to get his attention like a groupie at a Motley Crue concert. (Or whoever is popular right now, I really don't listen to the radio anymore.)

Usually that would be the kiss of death for a political candidate, but it barely ruffles an alien hair on Donald Trump's head.

No Trump will not be defeated by a Sarah Palin moment.

When he goes down it will be because of a "Donald Trump Moment."

And that moment will be incredible, amazing, the biggest one yet. It will be UGE I tell ya!

The Pope is at the White House talking about Climate Change

Sarah Palin is in Wasilla and says there's no such thing as Climate Change.

Does this make Sarah Palin the Anti-Christ?

    6. The term "anti Christ" is mentioned only once by the Apostle John; 1John 2: 18, 19, 22. It is NOT one person but many. It is anyone who denies that Jesus was the Messiah. (Yes, that would also include the Jews)
People who falsely claims to be a Christian while practicing lawlessness or deception. Matthew 7:22,23, 2Corinthians 11:13
Matthew 24:24 For false Christs and false prophets will arise and will perform great signs and wonders so as to mislead, if possible, even the chosen ones.
Pretend Christians like Huckabee, Pat Robertson, Kim Davis, Nancy French, and Sarah Palin, are the anti Christs. They can neither produce any Scriptures that support their hate, their greed, their bearing false witness, and they don’t even come close to imitating Jesus.
Then you have Huckabee who says he was going to have God send fireballs if gay marriage stands. Wow, talk about “Christ complex”.

Bringing a bible onstage to a Christian event was very Palinesque, wait until he asks his audience if they "love their freedom?!" Wearing a cap has been a self-defense mechanism in response to the public reaction to what he calls his hair, but when he brings out props like the bible or a Slurpie, we can call the game.

The real Sarah Palin moment was when she announced the fake pregnancy. From that point on, gradually more and more people were able to control Sarah Palin. The GOP and the Democratic Party power people all know how to damage Sarah Palin into silence. She isn't worth the trouble while she piddles about in Facebook, but she can never emerge in the forefront of American politics.

Has Trump had his "moment" yet? No. But the longer it's put off the HUGER it will be.

I beg to differ with you, most people outside AK did not even know who S. Palin was b/f McCain chose her and were not really paying attention to the fact Trig was an "extra large" 4 month old for a pre-meanie.

I think she was giving everyone the F.U. by raising him up to facing the crowd at the convention, her clever way of "getting away" with it, but that came with hind sight.

I watched Colbert's interview with Trump last evening (actually, I had to switch away to another channel more than a few times for sanity's sake). He talked about building a wall between Mexico and the U.S., and how "easy" it would be and how "impenetrable" it would be, and then he talked about sending all undocumented immigrants back home and how easy that would be. I can understand why the uneducated and the wilfully ignorant would buy that crap. I do not understand how people like Mark Cuban could possibly buy into it, nor that Trump actually believes what he's saying. This is all getting curiouser and curiouser.....

Colbert did a better interview with Ted Cruz the night before. Colbert didn't ask how Trump was going to get Mexico to pay for the wall. But, to be fair to Colbert, Trump's style is to keep talking and talking so the person can't ask a followup question.

      Delete
    2. The National Memo published an article by an engineer who actually put some thought into Trump's claims about his Great Wall.

      http://www.nationalmemo.com/an-engineer-explains-why-trumps-wall-is-so-implausible/

"Twelve million, six hundred thousand cubic yards. In other words, this wall would contain over three times the amount of concrete used to build the Hoover Dam — a project that, unlike Trump’s wall, has qualitative, verifiable economic benefits.

Such a wall would be greater in volume than all six pyramids of the Giza Necropolis — and it is unlikely that a concrete slab in the town of Dead Dog Valley, Texas would inspire the same timeless sense of wonder.

That quantity of concrete could pave a one-lane road from New York to Los Angeles, going the long way around the Earth, which would probably be just as useful.

Concrete, of course, requires reinforcing steel (or rebar). A reasonable estimate for the amount of rebar would be about 3 percent of the total wall size, resulting in a steel volume of 10,190,000 cubic feet, or about 5 billion pounds. We could melt down 4 of our Nimitz-class aircraft carriers and would probably be a few cruisers short of having enough steel."

And, of course, the people required to work on the Wall, and the logistics. Feeding them, living/sleeping quarters, maybe even PAYING them???

I watched the interview too. Felt Colbert was pretty easy on The Donald. My take away was because he has a new show and didn't want to lose viewers/ratings that support Trump.

He did a much better job w/Cruz knowing the man didn't have the support - as does Trump.

Bingo, 8:07 AM, and why I can't abide watching him. The only worthy opinion is his own. He announced today that he'll be on 60 Minutes this Sunday. Gryph will have to take another one for the team! :)

He can't claim he didn't hear that question loud and clear. He had a chance to answer and that is the answer he gave.

Trump will NOT be getting a Colbert Bump. He'll be getting the exact opposite.

      ------------
Don't forget the Donald said there would be a door in the wall also too.

As for paying for it, Trump said Mexico has a trade deficit with the USA, implying they would "tack on" the price of the wall.

He gave the same memorized answer as he gave on the Sundays shows about Obama's citizenship-Mr. Chicken Little, like the bully he is runs when confronted with the truth.

I guess his job plan, is putting all those illegal aliens his subcontractors hire to build the wall !!

He's much more comfortable in the business world and has done very well by being there.

I'll bet he thinks politics is a total pain in the ass where you have little control of others and the media when campaigning. He's not use to having others dig up dirt on him either. Who does for that matter?

Still don't understand why anyone would want to be in politics!

President Obama has gone through the worst as to the Republican party! And, the media has joined in spreading the crap that they've thrown at him. He's had it the very worst I've ever seen and I'm a senior and in my 70's!

I think he has so much hubris and confidence that when the GOP puts someone else on the ticket he will backtrack on his promise (with suitable excuses) and run an independent campaign. I'm sure he thinks he'll succeed where Ross Perot failed because he has more money and he's sure he has the votes to win and be the first third party President.

Perhaps after all this fails he will just shut up and go away.

I'm sure with an excuse that he's going back to business because it's more "honest and hard working" or some such drivel.

In other words he will likely announce that he has had months to get to know his fellow candidates and feels that it's his duty as a responsible citizen to throw his support and war chest behind 'x' who has proven themselves to be the right person for the right time. Guarantees that he still stays in the limelight but in a different context.

For The Donald its all about dominating the news cycle. Once his candidacy is over he has the freedom to continue to be as outrageous as he wants without having to dodge those pesky policy questions.

But, it's Sarah Palin who stands for the moment that people realize that there is no there there.

Sarah's remarkable dumbness and the resultant 'clickbaitability' kept the media glued. Donald isn't as entertaining even though he tries to be outrageous. You know he doesn't believe most of what he spews (although I do believe he is a bigot). Sarah, on the other hand, is so dumb she believes the regurgitated nonsensical pap she has been fed. Folks (a dwindling number) still tune in to see what enormously idiotic crap she is going to fling at the world (with an excruciating dose of vitriol thrown in). I don't think Trump will be able to maintain enough absurdity to keep the media attracted. With Sarah it comes naturally. That a person as limited as Sarah obtained a position second in line to the potential President of the United States still has folks flummoxed and some still drive by for a lookie lou. Trump doesn't have 'dumbest VP candidate ever' in his resume.

Trump said a while back that if he doesn't win then it will have all been a waste of his time.

That comment should have gotten more attention--if he thinks that the participating and reaching millions of Americans and being part of the ritual we have every four years, demonstrating what a democracy involves is not in itself worthwhile, then he really ought not to be a candidate.

But that aside, yeah, I agree with another poster that he'll withdraw and throw his weight behind someone and he'll take full credit for opening America's eyes to that candidate and propelling that person forward and getting people to stop and listen to that person.

But he has reached the Sarah Palin level now with his idiocy. If he were anyone but the billionaire entertainer Trump, he'd be gone very, very soon.

Regarding Huffpo: Huffpo was not one of the media who went for years under the Palin spell. That accusation is so not true. Speaking of, what I love watching is Chris Matthews on hardball talking about Palin now--the comparison of this to how he used to say he could listen to her voice forever (he really said that--he was so taken by it) is amazing.

HuffPo ran numerous articles about Palin. Absolutely. Of course. I've read HuffPo since its inception and it was never in love with Palin the way many of the other media were. It reported on her objectively and it also offered opinion. There were many early pieces that didn’t simply trash her but were about looking into her and being factual and also analytical without just tearing her to shreds. Unlike many other news outlets, too, it was much more interested in the female aspect of the VEEP nomination. Any longtime reader of HuffPo KNOWS that there were many statements about Palin’s weaknesses and peculiarities and what made her frightening (and what HuffPo said about Palin’s mama grizzly appeal was spot on), and there were many things said about her as a female who did not serve the cause of women as a whole and after so many years of fighting for our rights. Huffpo covered Palin plenty, of course, and even had a Sarah Palin “Big News Page,” which I read all the time and I never once believed HuffPo to be under the Palin spell.

The thing about "libruls" is, we have a brain. We don't swallow the pablum they dish out at the pulpit or Faux News, but pay attention and draw our own conclusions. Sometimes those conclusions differ. Those of us in California in 2003 had an opportunity to watch Huffington in action as a candidate for governor in the infamous recall election that gave us the Governator. I very quickly pegged her as a world class narcissist: she'd practically pee in her pants around Schwarzenegger, very much as Palin later did around Obama. And as someone who knows a lot of writers, it's further been clear that she made a bundle from HuffPo while royally screwing over their writers. I don't really care what her politics are; that's immaterial as far as my opinion of her goes.
