The Arizona Democrats know an opportunity when they see one.

I think that taco truck gaffe may be one of the greatest things that has happened this election cycle.

And Arizona Democrats are not the only ones taking advantage of it.

Gotta admit that pretty brilliant.

Somebody might want to tell Jeb Bush that it is NOT a good idea to nickname someone after the disaster that helped to destroy his brother's reputation as President.

State Sen. Katrina Shealy introduced Bush before his town hall at the iconic Hudson's Smokehouse here, just outside of Columbia. 

When Bush took the stage, he attempted to praise Shealy, the only woman in the state senate for the previous three years. 

"In fact, when I was governor, in 16 months we had eight hurricanes and four tropical storms. One of them was called Katrina," he said as some in the audience laughed.

As I'm sure most of you remember that 2005's Hurricane Katrina killed over 1,000 Americans and did an estimated 108 billion dollars worth of damage.

Not only that but George W's response to the disaster, or better yet lack of response, caused immense damage to his presidency and destroyed whatever confidence the American people had left in his ability to govern the country.

You know you kind of have to admire just how far Jeb! can shove his foot into his own mouth.

Rep. Kevin McCarthy admits that the point of the Benghazi hearings was to damage Hillary Clinton politically. Well there goes that Speaker of the House job.

House Republicans are in the midst of a coronation of California Congressman Kevin McCarthy as the next Speaker of the House. McCarthy's comments about the motives of the House select committee investigating the attacks in Benghazi, Libya, on Tuesday night, however, should give the party pause about whether he's totally ready for the big job.

Prodded repeatedly by conservative Fox News Channel host Sean Hannity to name an accomplishment for the Republican-led Congress, McCarthy seized on the Benghazi committee and its investigation into Hillary Clinton's role (or lack thereof) in the handling of the incident during her time as secretary of state. 

"Everybody thought Hillary Clinton was unbeatable, right?" McCarthy told Hannity. "But we put together a Benghazi special committee, a select committee. What are her numbers today? Her numbers are dropping. Why? Because she's untrustable. But no one would have known any of that had happened, had we not fought." 

Whoops!

And that my friends is how political careers blow right up in your face. 

Of course it's not like this was really any secret.

But in order to represent Republicans in the House rule number one is "Don't tell the truth about our bullshit politically motivated investigations!"

Well this is certainly an early Christmas present for the Clinton campaign.

Arianna Huffington believes that Donald Trump has had his "Sarah Palin Moment."

There are few things as absolute in damning a candidate as a refusal to acknowledge simple reality -- especially a candidate who says he'll be tough with our enemies but refuses to even stand up to his own supporters. Refusing to acknowledge that Obama was born in this country is the equivalent of refusing to say that the earth is round. Even Trump's own supporters are embarrassed. Mark Cuban on Real Time with Bill Maher last Friday had to scramble for cover by categorically stating that the candidate he's supporting for president "is not gonna win. He's got no chance... none." 

So when will the media be embarrassed enough to refuse to continue to give Trump the large megaphone they are giving him? Not because he's the front-runner -- come on, let's stop pretending that's the reason -- but because of the ratings he fuels as the entertainer he undoubtedly is. 

As Sarah Palin demonstrated, even the ratings-crazed media are capable of falling out of love with a big-ratings stunt candidate. With Trump, you can already see it happening. The cracks are beginning to show. And when the media fall out of love they fall out of love very quickly.

I actually do not agree with Arianna Huffington very often, and this is one of those times.

For one thing the statement "And when the media fall out of love they fall out of love very quickly" concerning Sarah Palin is patently false.

In fact the media gave Palin a pass for several more years than was warranted, because she was good click bait.

Just like Donald Trump.

As for Trump having his "Sarah Palin moment," he has had NOTHING BUT SARAH PALIN MOMENTS.

And yet there he sits at the top of the polls.

Donald Trump is a gaffe machine, easily rising to the level of Sarah Palinesque heights with nearly every one. But since he does not care about making them, nobody in the Republican party, aside from the other candidates of course, seems to care either.

For instance currently Palin is rushing to agree with the Donald at every opportunity, and constantly working to get his attention like a groupie at a Motley Crue concert. (Or whoever is popular right now, I really don't listen to the radio anymore.)

Usually that would be the kiss of death for a political candidate, but it barely ruffles an alien hair on Donald Trump's head.

No Trump will not be defeated by a Sarah Palin moment.

When he goes down it will be because of a "Donald Trump Moment."

And that moment will be incredible, amazing, the biggest one yet. It will be UGE I tell ya!

One thing you have to say about Chris Christie, when he makes a gaffe, it is a humdinger.

I love how certain he is that he would never say what the young lady completely accurately quotes him as saying.

This is right up there with Rick Perry's "Oops" moment during the 2012 debate.

Jeb Bush clarifies that when he uses the term "anchor babies" he's not referring to Mexicans, who he loves, he's referring to those slanted eyed rice eating bastards.

"What? Asians vote too? Oh well I meant to say the Swiss. They're the ones ruining the country!"

During his obligatory visit to the U.S.-Mexico border as one of 17 Republicans vying for the GOP presidential nomination, Bush once again found himself at the center of a controversy surrounding his use of the derogatory reference to the U.S. born children of undocumented immigrants. Bush attempted to clarify that when he said “anchor babies” during a radio interview last week, he meant Asians who come in and “take advantage” of birthright citizenship not Hispanics. 

Bush blamed Hillary Clinton’s campaign for suggesting the term is derogatory, calling the controversy “ludicrous.” Bush, who’s wife is a Mexican immigrant, claimed that “frankly, it’s more related to Asian people coming into our country, having children, in that organized effort taking advantage of a noble concept, which is birthright citizenship” and said he wasn’t worried that his use of the term would impact his relationship with Hispanic voters: 

"What I was talking about was the specific case of fraud being committed where there’s organized efforts—and frankly it’s more related to Asian people—coming into our country, having children, in that organized efforts, taking advantage of a noble concept, which is birthright citizenship. I support the 14th amendment. Nothing I’ve said should be viewed as derogatory toward immigrants at all."

Yeah hell why only insult the Hispanics in this country when you can also make the Asians hate you as well?

I guess in the Bush family the bar for being the smart brother is just incredibly, incredibly low.

Megyn Kelly offers perhaps the best, and most accurate, Fox News gaffe ever.

Fox News host Megyn Kelly welcomed former Governor of Arkansas and current right wing propaganda artist, Mike Huckabee, to her November 10 show in a hilarious way. 

Huckabee currently hosts his own show on Fox News, which is named after himself. 

When Kelly attempted to introduce him as ‘the host of Huckabee on Fox’, well, things didn’t come out quite right . . . 

She welcomed Mike Huckabee, host of “F*uckabee,” which is actually pretty hilarious.

I like how Huckabee's face pruned up after the gaffe. 

Well I don't know about everybody else, but I know what I am going to be calling his show from now on.

Well you knew this was inevitable right?

You know I am still tickled every time a pundit or news reporter, from anywhere in the world, uses Sarah Palin as the yardstick to measure how poorly Mitt Romney is doing.

Do you even remember the time when we actually thought we were in danger of having her as the presidential nominee?

Just seems like a bad dream now doesn't it?

The DNC just released a video enveloping the U.S. and British coverage of Mitt Romney’s visit to London, called #RomneyShambles — the hashtag on twitter was trending — and it’s still going strong — after the awkward Republican candidate, uttered gaffe after gaffe. Another hashtag #AmericanBorat is a firestorm of hilarity.

Romney campaign continues struggling with fourth grade level spelling words. Update!

Apparently this comes from a slideshow put together by a Romney pollster and sent out to top campaign fundraisers to demonstrate that Obama's low poll numbers indicate he will not be reelected.

Of course it comes on the heels of the Romney campaign's various other spelling gaffes like "Amercia" and "offical," which is never a good thing for a candidate whose education plan is already catching flak.

You know the President may indeed have low poll numbers but at least he can spell "Ronald Reagan," now can't he?

I think that Romney better get his shit together if he is counting on support from the rabid Right Wingers in this country.  After all it is one thing to spell "America" wrong but spelling "Reagan" wrong?  That's sacrilege!

Update: I watched this segment on Lawrence O'Donnell yesterday with my jaw somewhat slackened in amazement.  Just when you thought Mittens could not be any stranger, now we have the Romney cop fetishist story.

Nothing says "Presidential" like dressing up in a cop uniform and using a flashing light to pull over vehicles, don't you agree?

President Obama's "hot mic" incident with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev encourages the Right Wing to go on the attack, and coaxes the Whiny Wendigo of Wasilla to emerge from the shadows with claws at the ready.

I am sure that many of you have already heard of this incident from earlier today, but here is what the Chicago Sun-times had to report, just to bring you up to speed.

President Barack Obama told Russia’s leader Monday that he would have more flexibility after the November election to deal with the contentious issue of missile defense, a candid assessment of political reality that was picked up by a microphone without either leader apparently knowing. 

“This is my last election,” Obama is heard telling outgoing Russian President Dmitry Medvedev. “After my election, I have more flexibility.” 

Medvedev replied in English, according to a tape by ABC News: “I understand. I will transmit this information to Vladimir,” an apparent reference to incoming President Vladmir Putin. 

Obama and Medvedev did not intend for their comments, made during a meeting in Seoul, South Korea, to be made public. 

Once they were, the White House said Obama’s words reflected the reality that domestic political concerns in both the U.S. and Russia this year would make it difficult to fully address their long-standing differences over the contentious issue of missile defense. 

Obama, should he win re-election, would not have to face voters again. 

“Since 2012 is an election year in both countries, with an election and leadership transition in Russia and an election in the United States, it is clearly not a year in which we are going to achieve a breakthrough,” White House deputy national security adviser Ben Rhodes said.

It seems pretty cut and dried right? It is difficult to give the issue of the planned U.S. missile defense shield in Europe the attention necessary during an election year, not to mention that the constant attacks and scrutiny from the Right make it virtually impossible for Obama to make delicate policy decisions in such a divisive climate, so of course this is something that will be postponed until a later time.

I doubt that too many people would find that kind of candid talk shocking, or even particularly newsworthy.

Unless of course it was caught by a hot mic during an election year, at which time it becomes a highly exploitable political opportunity.

Already Romney and Gingrich have started to lob stones at the President from behind their thin glass walls.

 "That is an alarming and troubling development," said Romney, calling the president's comment "revealing" for what he called Obama's unwillingness to provide more details about missile defense. 

"This is no time for our president to be pulling his punches with the American people," Romney said while campaigning in San Diego. "I will make it very clear that the relationship we have around the world is one where America will be strong, that America's strength and commitment to our friends and allies will be unshakable and unwavering."

Yeah you keep rattling that saber Mitt, after all you have that magic underwear to protect YOU.

Gingrich called the exchange with Medvedev an "extraordinary moment caught on tape where the president basically said to a Russian leader, 'Please wait until after the election so I can sell out.' 

"If you read what he said, it is the most blatant comment about selling out American defenses I think any American president's ever made and I don't see how any American could trust him ever again after that comment," Gingrich said. "I mean, he thinks it's in private and he's saying to the Russians, please quote 'give me some space' so I can be re-elected and then I'll be free to do anything I want to. Well, that just told you how radically left-wing Obama's going to be in the second term."

Of course there is NO indication that the President is planning to sell out America defenses (And isn't this the same President who has been picking off Al Qaeda leaders like tin cans on a fencepost?), though of course he has gone on record as wanting to dramatically reduce the number of nuclear weapons we have stockpiled. (Which by the way is the exact same goal that both Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush fought for during THEIR Presidencies as well.)

Personally I would trust this President's plan for defending this nation over Newt "Fly me to the moon" Gingrich's any day of the week.  I mean can you imagine anybody LESS trustworthy on this topic?

Update: Apparently this picture was photoshopped by somebody on Democratic underground. Which I just found out about today.  However I was not the only one fooled:

Influential conservative blogger Erick Erickson of Red State retweeted a link of the picture that said, “why oh why did Mitt Romney pose for this picture.” 

Shortly after, Erickson tweeted: 

“The Romney photo was photo-shopped but it speaks volumes that so many on the right weren’t surprised assuming it was real.”

Okay, I'm sorry, but somehow that makes this whole thing even funnier.

And I said to them, I said let me tell you something - I spent a year and a half getting healthcare passed. I had to take that issue across the country and I paid significant political costs to get it done. The notion that I'm going to let you guys undo that in a 6 months spending bill, you want to repeal healthcare, go at it, we'll have that debate. But you won't be able to do that by nickel and dimming me in the budget. You think we're stupid?"

"When Paul Ryan says his priority is to make sure, you know, he's just being America's accountant, and you know trying to be responsible," the president pondered with his allegedly private audience, "This is the same guy who voted for two wars that were unpaid for, voted for the Bush tax cuts that were unpaid for, voted for the prescription drug bill that cost as much as my healthcare bill, but wasn't paid for."


You know I would not be at all surprised to learn that the President knew full well that his mike was on. And knowing that he still he said the above because he knew it would fire up his base, which it did, and piss off the Republicans, which no doubt it will, while still giving him the excuse of saying that he did not mean for that to be released to the media.  Which I bet, he actually did.
