John Boehner to quit as Speaker of the House at the end of October.

Courtesy of AOL News:

In a stunning move, House Speaker John Boehner informed Republicans on Friday that he would step down at the end of October, giving up his coveted leadership post and his seat in Congress in the face of hardline conservative opposition.

The 13-term Ohio Republican shocked his GOP caucus early Friday morning when he informed them of his decision in a closed-door session. It came one day after the high point of Boehner's congressional career, a historic speech by Pope Francis to Congress at Boehner's request.

Rep. John Mica, R-Fla., said Boehner "just does not want to become the issue. Some people have tried to make him the issue both in Congress and outside."

Yeah I think that Boehner realizes that the writing is on the wall concerning his chances for be elected Speaker again, and its getting out while the getting is good.

The Right Wing has been gunning for him for years now and it was only a matter of time before they wore his old orange ass out.

I cannot begin to imagine what kind of yahoo the Republicans might elect to take his place, but I imagine that the partisanship in the House is only going to get much worse going forward.

But hey, maybe at least this time maybe they will elect a guy who does not cry every time the wind blows.

In front to the Pope and everything. That is just pathetic.

What about Nancy Pelosi? She is Minority leader? If they can't elect someone or what not, does she take over? That would be nice? Maybe he did it this way to keep the nuts from ousting him?

Nancy could become Speaker of the House again if she were to be elected by a majority of the members of the House. Personally, I wouldn't rule it out, if the "crazies" get too bad and make it impossible to elect any Republican.

I must say I think a little of this may be adrenalin high. He may regret the decision when he comes down but too late now.

He can join all the other quitters.

But....he's also approaching 70 so good that he's retiring before he just dies in office.

It was either resign or get ousted in putsch lead by Cruz and his right wing extremist ilk. Boehner is a good catholic boy, I figure post-Pope speech he's done dealing with what a sick, twisted thing the GOP has become. That being said...Boehner declaring presidential run in 3,2,1....????

6:29-- Nah, I don't think so. I think he's just had it. I actually believe he's a guy with some modicum of political common sense, therefore a dinosaur in the GOP.

You can see that President Obama kind of likes the guy, judging from Obama's expression in their photographs together. The President is really pretty obvious in that way--check out his visual responses to Putin or Netanyahu vs. the Pope or Hillary, for example.

I'm sure the Pope has seen many people cry before, maybe even shed a tear or two, himself.

I think the Pope dressed him down and told him he was leading a party that was the opposite of what jesus would do and Boehner said, you know, Pope? You're right. Fuck those guys. They're even too shitty for the likes of me. I'm outa here.

6:33- The pope can barely speak english phonetically, let alone well enough to 'dress down' someone. In no case would anything like that ever happen via translators. The pope also likely has no idea who/what Boehner is anyway. Cute idea, though.

      Delete
    2. Anonymous8:07 AM

The Pope didn't have to do it directly. All he had to say (through translators) is that the US has been getting it wrong and that the economic policies of the current legislative branch are unchristian.

The Pope is educated and knows what's going on in the world and certainly did his homework (or at least he was briefed) before coming to the US. I think he could manage to understand how our government works and who/what Boehner is when he was presented for their meeting.

      Delete
    3. Anonymous8:16 AM

7:35. Wow, that was quite the snotty little post. And ignorant, too....do you really think you can't communicate through translators? Even if it's just a not-likely scenario by the poster at 6:35, you don't need to be such an ass.

Are you conversant with the political structure of the Vatican?

The far right-wing were pushing to have him outed, guess they must have succeeded in some back room deals.

Of course, Boehner looks like he is a man with baggage; he wears it on his face. The reason for his resignation could be a mixed bag of pressure from the far-right and Cruz, plus the fact he doesn't look healthy. His bloodshot looking eyes tell he's been to the bar too long. And, possibly the Pope's visit might have been the straw on the camel's back, which forced him to look within and search his heart and conscience.

    I enjoyed this entertaining commentary:
"Like Walker, Boehner Leaves to Lead"

    ***
    (excerpt)
House Speaker John Boehner (R-Nowheresville) has announced his resignation from Congress as of the end of next month. Citing the “courage and far-sightedness of Scott Walker,” Boehner says he is stepping aside as Speaker of the House and resigning from Congress so as to lead it from a non-leadership position.

“Look, we’ve screwed this Republican Party thing up royally. The long path from Richard Nixon’s Silent Majority, through Ronald Reagan’s Moral Majority, to George Bush’s Gerrymandered Majority has led us here,” well-known political has-been Boehner said. “We took every crank, Jeebus freak, moron, nutjob, racist, sexist and ammosexual and told them that actually their pathologies were patriotism, just so that they would vote for us and against their economic self-interest.”

“Who knew that if you empowered the delinquents on the short-bus, eventually they were going to want to drive it,” well-known weeper Boehner said, a wistful tear in his eye. “The experiment has escaped the laboratory.”

In 2010 McCarthy signed a pledge sponsored by Americans for Prosperity promising to vote against any Global Warming legislation that would raise taxes on affected companies.[28]

McCarthy does not support renewing the charter of the Export-Import Bank of the U.S., as he expects the private sector to take over the role.[29]

McCarthy is pro-life and has received a 100% rating from the National Right to Life Committee. He has voted against the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, to ban abortions, to stop taxpayer funding of abortion and has also voted repeatedly to defund and repeal the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.[30]
