Rep. Kevin McCarthy admits that the point of the Benghazi hearings was to damage Hillary Clinton politically. Well there goes that Speaker of the House job.

"Wait, what did I say?"
Courtesy of the Washington Post:

House Republicans are in the midst of a coronation of California Congressman Kevin McCarthy as the next Speaker of the House. McCarthy's comments about the motives of the House select committee investigating the attacks in Benghazi, Libya, on Tuesday night, however, should give the party pause about whether he's totally ready for the big job.

Prodded repeatedly by conservative Fox News Channel host Sean Hannity to name an accomplishment for the Republican-led Congress, McCarthy seized on the Benghazi committee and its investigation into Hillary Clinton's role (or lack thereof) in the handling of the incident during her time as secretary of state.

"Everybody thought Hillary Clinton was unbeatable, right?" McCarthy told Hannity. "But we put together a Benghazi special committee, a select committee. What are her numbers today? Her numbers are dropping. Why? Because she's untrustable. But no one would have known any of that had happened, had we not fought."

Whoops!

And that my friends is how political careers blow right up in your face.

Of course it's not like this was really any secret.

But in order to represent Republicans in the House rule number one is "Don't tell the truth about our bullshit politically motivated investigations!"

Well this is certainly an early Christmas present for the Clinton campaign.

Is it? I thought the whole point of Benghazi was to retrieve all that was owed to the THE KID. Not so, you say?

Wow, 12:33, 5 hours and still nobody biting on your THE KID comment. I felt sorry for you so I thought I would come to your rescue. I just need to go find my Johnny Quest decoder ring to understand what you're saying. Take your "secrets" somewhere else. Nobody cares.

Yep, and this time how they roll has come back to bite them in the butt. They wanted to get rid of Boehner so they could go on ahead with their shenanigans and look what they got, lol. Couldn't of happened to a more deserving bunch...of hooligans!

This reminds me of the Republican Pennsylvania legislator back in 2012 who while giving a speech stated that they had passed a voter ID law to help Romney win that state.

"Untrustable?" Is he taking diction lessons from Palinsky? I think Pelosi should throw her name in the hat. There is no rule that says the Speaker has to come from the majority party, and the GOP has no one that plans to get a damn thing done except whine, grift dollars for lies, and throw tantrums.

Sally, Rachel Maddow just did a segment on this potential SPEAKER's inability to SPEAK--clip after clip after clip of misused and made up words and lack of syntax which just confuses further the total gibberish already coming out of his mouth as he READS a prepared speech. I would post a clip of her segment but it's not available yet. It is absolutely damning and the most incredible part is that he doesn't even realize he makes no sense.

Gryphen, you've got to post this when you can.

First I want to see what BS they come up with to back track his statement.

Second, I want a special investigation into all the republican members of all the Benghazi committees, starting with Issa.

Next, I want them all censured and forced to resign with no benefits or pensions. or they can have their wages garnished until the $4.6 million is paid back.

Lastly I want a sincere apology (not those fake rethug kind) to the American public, Hillary and the families of the victims for disgracing our country.

Finally, I want the Democrats to beat this like a dead horse everyday until the results of the next election are in.

Sound like I am angry, yes I am. Enough of this teabagger crap.

    9. Former R Congressman Bob Ney was on Thom Hartmann today. He said what needs to happen is a Democrat with some balls needs to file an ethics complaint. It has to be someone with a squeaky clean record because it will make them a target of retaliation. But if a complaint is made, the Ethics Committee is required to investigate it. Then they could subpoena all of THEIR emails. We just had a member of the Michigan house expelled for less.

      No shit, 2:12 PM?

1:52 PM simply stated Americans need to get out and vote in upcoming elections!

I would go further saying the fucking Republicans need to be voted out of office wherever and whenever possible. In all levels across the country which would include the national, state and community levels.

Many of them are mentally ill, religious freaks showing themselves to be anti women and pro war! They are the last of human kind that should be in elective office anywhere.

No. Only Republcans can vote who they want to be their speaker. Same goes for the other party.

    2. Anonymous7:12 PM

@ 4:06 you are incorrect, all the reps vote

The Clerk of the House of Representatives requests nominations: there are normally two, one from each major party (each party having previously met to decide on its nominee).

The Clerk then calls the roll of the Representatives-elect, each Representative-elect indicating the surname of the candidate he or she is supporting.

Representatives-elect are not restricted to voting for one of the nominated candidates and may vote for any person, even for someone who is not a member (or member-elect) of the House at all. They may also abstain by voting "present".[4]

To be elected as Speaker, a candidate must receive an absolute majority of all votes cast for individuals, i.e. excluding those who abstain.

If no candidate wins such a majority, then the roll call is repeated until a Speaker is elected.

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speaker_of_the_United_States_House_of_Representatives

Therefore Nancy Pelosi or another Democrat could become speaker if they get the majority of the votes.

Thank you for the facts. @4:06 - why so eager to spread false information you obviously know nothing about?

I had heard that McCarthy would be a shoe-in because the democrats would only vote for a moderate republican for speaker. I would hope now no democrat in the House will vote for McCarthy.

I wonder if the more sensible and sane Republicans (and yes, I realize that bar is set pretty damn low) are starting to worry about the coming implosion of the GOP, thanks to the tea party members.

Perhaps they will make a wise decision for their own sake and choose a Speaker who is NOT completely batshit crazy. They would certainly not do it for the benefit of the country and the citizens they are paid to represent, but they just might do it for the preservation of their own cushy and lucrative jobs.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Duh.

They also said their entire agenda for the last 8 years was to block everything Obama tries to do. Oh, and to prevent a second term.

So far their success rate is pretty dismal. Why should Benghazi be any different.

This is actually encouraging as they'll probably fail to kill Planned Parenthood with a track record like that.

    ReplyDelete
  21. No one is surprised by this. What makes this admission especially pornographic is how the GOP pretends to show sympathy for the fallen, when in fact their deaths are just a means to influence an election. In the GOP's world, dead heroes are far more useful than the wounded, because the wounded are an ongoing expense.

Boehner worked with Gowdy in the same way that ruined any pretense he made to be a leader of factions for the good of "the institution." Gowdy is mean, downright evil, as he showed in his ugly attempts to belittle Cecile Richards in the sleazy Republicans efforts to belittle Richards and Planned Parenthood with their lies, even to the point of presenting false documents, asserting they were Planned Parenthood's own corporate documents. Boehner failed because of his own duplicity, not becuase of his sick tears. And Gowdy would fail also because, thankfully, there aren't enough ugly people in the House of Representatives to support him no matter what he does.

Gowdy is every bit as bad and nasty as Jason Chaffetz, the other Republican scoundrel who chaired the committed that tried to resort to nastiness and lies in their sick presumption that is the way to govern. The Republicans only bring disgrace to themselves. However, voters, both those who vote and those who do not vote, are even more disgraceful because they have hired such scoundrels to become our government. Shame on "We the people."

Don't let anyone claim our government is any form of democracy. Democracy does not elect such incompetence, such meanness to do their governing. Democracy does not allow gerrymandering and call it democracy. Democracy does not include a senate with equal representation for states of extremely unequal populations. Democracy does not allow filibustering. Democracy does not allow super-majorities for any legislative activity. Democracy does not allow life terms for any officials, not even federal judges. And democracy would demand term limits on the same legislature that initiated term limits of the executive branch in Republican retaliation for a president who had been elected four times--Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

Republicans never cease their efforts to drown any semblance of democracy. They needn't try with their Jim Crow tactics, their voter suppression tactics or any of the dirty behavior of Chaffetz and Gowdy, because our government has never been democratic. Read your original Constitution. Slavery, yet slave owners were allowed to partially count their slaves in order to enhance their presence in our government. Women, more than half of the pupulation, could not vote for over 100 years and outrageous fights for their rights. Study the ugly behavior of Republicans ever since the crook Richard Nixon took the party South because it had nothing left in common with whatever respectability remains in the North. And Jason Chaffetz and Trey Gowdy are perfect examples of the evil ugliness that has come of the Republican Party. But whom can we blame? Why do "We the people" put up with them?

Rise up and revolt! First, get off your lazy butts and study and learn politics, governmenbt, issues, and candidates. Then really rise up and vote intelligently to rid this sick society of the whoring thugs, both male and female, who sell themselves to the highest bidders--those with the most money--to destroy any semblance of decency or respect. No, loudly and clearly, ours has never been a democracy, and that is our own fault.
