Courtesy of HuffPo:
Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah), chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, said Thursday that the GOP's investigation into Planned Parenthood's use of federal funds hasn't turned up anything.
"Did I look at the finances and have a hearing specifically as to the revenue portion and how they spend? Yes. Was there any wrongdoing? I didn't find any," he said during a Judiciary Committee hearing on the family planning provider.
Chaffetz, a candidate for House speaker, grilled Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards during a five-hour hearing last week. He questioned her salary, asked about the organization's expenses and revenues, and pressed Richards on why the group had revenue of $127 million last year if it's a nonprofit. (Nonprofits put their revenues back into their programs.)
But after all that, he concluded that Planned Parenthood isn't doing anything sketchy with its money. "Did we find any wrongdoing? The answer was no," Chaffetz said.
You are you now thinking, "Well good now that they have failed to find anything they will stop harassing Cecile Richards and trying to shut down Planned Parenthood clinics."
You are so cute.
No this is political catnip to the conservatives and there is no way that they are going to drop this thing until they have squeezed every bit of unmitigated rage and opportunism out of it.
I hate what the Republican Party has become.
ReplyDeleteI'm watching the American Experience episode titled "1964." I gotta tell you, they've been the same since at least then.
DeleteYou're right. If over 50 wasteful and useless attempts to gut and destroy the Affordable Care Act showed them nothing, they're not going give up any sooner on Planned Parenthood. It's organized insanity now, plain and simple.
ReplyDeleteThere oughta be a law they gotta spend their own dough, these oh-so prudent "fiscal conservatives."
ReplyDeleteThe new inquisition.
ReplyDeleteIs he going to admit that he was a disrespectful asshole? No, of course not.
ReplyDeleteI'm just glad per your previous post, that so many people witnessed what misogynistic jerks these guys are, and maybe they'll now get more involved.
Also, as a female, I don't think the younger generations of women have ANY clue how hard women have had to work to get reproductive rights in this country. They've been taking it for granted.

Believe me, as a 30-something female who has needed HBC for medical reasons since my teens, I appreciate having it covered without a co-pay under the ACA. Letting people take THAT away, let alone other reproductive rights, is not something I'd be willing to do without a fight. But I agree that my generation, let alone younger women, doesn't/don't understand-which scares me. And I can't find the words to describe how I feel about those few women I know in my generation who are actively working to make abortion illegal.
DeleteAfter noting that they found no evidence of any wrongdoing, Chaffetz continued as follows:
ReplyDelete"Yet, regardless of the evidence before him, Chaffetz would like to continue using taxpayer funding to dig into Planned Parenthood’s activities. Chaffetz said: “I think there will continue to be investigations.”"
I wonder why Gryphen didn't mention that part. That's what pissed me off the most.
DeleteYes, 5:49, I agree, it is not just well-founded speculation on the part of Democrats and liberals that they will most likely continue setting up expensive and wasteful investigations.
DeleteChaffetz himself came right out and said there will continue to be investigations, regardless of there being no reason for them.
That annoyed me the most also.
There have to be continued investigations. Just like Benghazi was to pillory Clinton they'll keep the heat on Planned Parenthood to appease the 'bagger m0r0ns and pillory the Democrats.
DeleteNever let the facts get in the way.
ReplyDeletePerhaps PP will be on the backburner longer than we think. That pack of wingnut morons is about to have a bloodletting. Pull up a chair, folks.
Chaffetz is trying to be a teeny bit reasonable since he sees a chance to become the next speaker or at least get another wingnut in there. He'll get back to his crazy talk soon enough. I hope they're in for a bloodletting!
DeleteWhy is she shaking hands with that piece of trash? I don't understand that. You don't have to attack him, but there's no reason to shake hands and be cordial to someone whose trying to destroy you, either.
ReplyDeleteI hope that photo was before the hearing where he browbeat her about her salary! He was such an asshole and his smarmy shit eating grin when another member chastised him for it was disgusting...another misogynist mormon!
DeleteShaking hands shows that there was at least l adult in the room.

DeleteIt is all about catering to the people who elected them. People who hate everything, just to hate, insecure troglodytes. Those repugs have no decency, no standards, no integrity; it's all about catering to the sickest elements in our society - for votes.

Ywc2 - every time I see him (chaffetz) "pissant" keeps running thru my head.
ReplyDeleteWell, he's just shot himself in the foot. No way he'll be speaker.
ReplyDeleteDamn, it's looking more and more like Darrell Issa.
