NBC releases trailer to promote Law and Order episode inspired by the Duggar family sex scandal.

Courtesy of Raw Story:

NBC released a teaser trailer Wednesday for an upcoming episode of their popular long-running crime show Law & Order: Special Victims Unit that is loosely based upon the real-life molestation scandal involving the Duggar family.

Keeping with their history of stories “ripped from the headlines, ” the Duggar family tale was inevitable for the Law & Order franchise devoted to sex crimes.

With the Duggar’s 19 Kids And Counting TV show off the air after it was revealed that eldest son Josh had admitted to molesting several of his sisters when he was a teen, the Law & Order episode comes on the heels of a TLC special on childhood sexual abuse that starred two of the Duggar daughters.

Introduced as a “reality TV family’s shocking scandal,” the clip shows a squeaky-clean and very large all-American family as Det. Amanda Rollins explains, “One of their virgin daughters is knocked up, so there goes their TV show….”

You know I would think that once you are featured on a show like Law & Order due to a terrible incident such as sexual abuse among family members, that you are essentially finished an example of a "squeaky clean" Christian American family.

My daughter freaking loves Law & Order, and watches it over and over again in reruns, but personally I never watch it.

I might just tune in for this episode however.

  1. I gave it up when they lost hunky Chris Meloni, but even when they had him, I always preferred the mothership series, which was far longer on the courtroom procedural. Jay Leno killed that version of the show when NBC gave him five nights a week at 10, and Law And Order got kicked to 8p.m. on Friday, a death spot for a drama series, where nobody would go looking for one, or remembered often enough to seek it.

Criminal Intent seemed to exist for Vince D'Onofrio's showboating ego, and Victims Unit for the sensational. But as you say, this one might be worth catching.

I'm waiting for them to do one about an ambitious but stupid woman who fakes a pregnancy and runs for national office.

How about a hero guy who raped 50+ women? And for the victims only to be denied for years? He really lived in that fake world of TV, make a show about that.
      FUCK OFF BILL COSBY.

Or an even stupider woman who gets knocked up at 17, goes on an abstinence only speaking tour, starts a brawl at a birthday party, then gets knocked up again and tries to trick a MOH winner into marrying her.

I wasn't into the show for awhile, but once I watched a few, I was hooked! Added bonus, Marishka Hargitay - my husband has a huge crush on her, but give me the older Chris Meloni ones anyday,

Hubby watched the original for a year before I ever got interested. Then for awhile I watched all three faithfully. However. I watch very little TV any longer, as it just makes me angry. But Mariska is a wonderful actress, and I might just have to catch this one.

    1. I watched the original for Sam Waterston. Loved Jerry Orbach and Steven Hill.

I stopped when they brought on Dennis Farina. After he left, I just never started watching again.

I watched a some of the spin offs for a while. Criminal Intent and SUV. But as the casts changed I lost interest and finally stopped watching.

  6. It's spackle tv. There's a hole in the schedule, spackle in some L&O.

Just in fairness, I think the Duggars lost their show not because Josh molested his sisters (and at least one other- who really knows?), but because the parents did nothing about it when it happened. If they had notified the police, gotten the kid into counseling, and gotten the girls into counseling, and actually resolved some issues, they could be admired for going through a challenging phase. The fact is, their only concern was to protect their reputation and grift for money.

    1. Isn't that what the Gothard School of Bible and Molestation teaches? Cover it up and deny, deny, deny.

I do not want this story to die, that man and his wife deserve to be hung high for their hideous behavior and gross abuse of power, in the state house and in thief fundy ou locally funded preschool.
