Shooting on Oregon campus. At least ten dead and more than twenty injured. Update!

Courtesy of KTLA:

Preliminary information indicates 10 people were killed and more than 20 others injured in a shooting at Oregon’s Umpqua Community College in Oregon on Thursday morning, said Oregon State Police spokesman Bill Fugate. The reports indicate that the shooter has been detained, Fugate said.

This is yet another breaking story. Will update as more information becomes available.

Update: There are reports that the shooter may have posted his intentions on social media last night.

It also appears the President has been briefed.

How many times has our President had to address a senseless mass shooting like this now?

I think this makes it fifteen.

Update 2: MSNBC is now reporting the number killed at thirteen.

Update 3: Just learned that the gunman is also deceased.

Update 4: The shooter's name was Chris Harper Mercer, he was a 26 year old student at the college.

He is of course deceased.

Sarah Palin was responsible for that shooting in which Gabby Giffords was injured, others were wounded, and yes, some even dead including a child.
So no, this IS the time for everyone to bring up every mass shooting.

U Betcha. She's the rill dill when it comes to sharp shooting. She's been victimized by her snarky wit, her botoxed ageless beauty her ability to quit in the middle of her term. She is the leader of the survey crew that targets and maps out a new world order. She is the mother of all mothers protecting the fetuses kicking to be free. She is the inspiration to all teenage girls that don't want a higher education and just love the smell of a stinky diaper in the morning. She's the little blue pill for all the old guys that want her to empower them. Her hero had a wooden leg or something like that.

11:07 You brought Sarah into this convo,,,,guns don't kill students at JUCO, But the NRA etc allow weapons in the hands of people that do.

12:04, Jared Loughner, a paranoid schizophrenic who was obsessed with Gifford's, is the responsible party for that particular shooting. If we were lucky enough for Sarah Palin to be killed by some mentally ill but, is Gryphen or any of her other haters responsible?

I hate Sarah Palin with a passion, but I also know right from wrong. Am I responsible for someone else trying to kill her?

There are a couple of ex-military commentators on CNN blaming the school for the shooting since it is a gun free zone? Jesus Christ! You can't wait for the bodies to get cold before you start spewing the NRA party line? Hello assholes! A good guy with a gun intervened in a truck jacking in Texas and shot the truck owner. Give everyone guns. That will work. And if I come around the corner and see someone shooting someone else, I will shoot them. Even though the person I see shooting could b a plain clothes cop taking down an armed suspect.

That's right when the NRA instructed the gotp to screech about their constituency's right to bear arms it was obvious nothing would ever be done about the gun violence in this country.I suppose it will take a bunch of republican kids blown away at summer camp for those fools to even think about a solution.

    6. Fact. The Oregon State Police have an office within 1/2 mile from the center of the college. So tell me again how a lack of security could let this happen.
How about the county sheriff who made it his job to lobby against a background check bill that DID pass. Name is John Hanlin. The same ass
wipe that refused to reissue concealed handgun permits to medical marijuana card holders. He had his ass handed to him by the courts but only after wasting tons of county money for a baseless personal cause.
Also, this is the same county that wanted to recall a legislator because he voted for the new background check law.
Now the county can be just so proud.

Why? Because the rich white men who have ruled this nation for 200 years see their power slipping away. So they are instilling the idiots with fear and loathing, just like Hitler did in Germany. They think they are clever by supporting Bibi and therefore, Jews. In reality, they despise and distrust anyone not exactly like them, including Jews and the Pope. So when Obama won, they were beyond shocked. They were shaking in their boots, thus the secret meeting to agree NOT to support a damn thing, blame everything on him, and make up as many lies as their base will swallow, which is a lot. Meanwhile, the NRA capitalizes on the fear and hate by making sure there are NO gun laws passed, and that everyone is afraid of their neighbor and suddenly needs 'protection' from our own government. Now they are using the police against our sanity as well. They have convinced them that everyone they look at hates them, has a gun, and will kill them if they don't kill first. So we have our own SS going on. I do not know what is going to turn us around. It is very very sad.

Shut up 2:10. It's not paranoia it's an observation. There's a difference between pointing out "fear and loathing" and fomenting it.

Learn a little history. Then you might be able to understand to what 12:27 is referring. The very symptoms of discord that led up to the atrocities in the late 1930's were hate, fear and blame of the "other." Tell me you don't see that insidious illness creeping into our society?

Also read up about Ronnie Raygun and you will learn how he stripped away the foundations of mental health care in America and how it's led to this sad "perfect storm" of fear, ignorance and the disturbed acting out in the worst possible way.

And the blame lies square on the shoulders of the GOP who will not pass any gun legislation because they are beholden to the likes of the NRA and Grover Norquist.

Well, guess what?! This will become more every-day type of situation now that the NRA has been able to get their wishes that guns be allowed on college campuses - as well as in churches, and even in bars!
That said: I am very, VERY glad that the shooter is dead, too. Otherwise he probably would have been paroled sooner rather than later (and maybe even had been treated by the cops like that Roof guy who shot and killed those (black) parishioners he was praying with - the guy who was 'hungry' and got treated to a Burger King meal before being booked...)

  17. I can see only two ways for sane gun control laws to come into effect.

First, there are at least three men who have recently shot their own dicks off or lodged bullets in their scrotum. There are probably many many more. Testimony in Congress *with graphic pictures and x-rays* ought to dispell the idea that guns are for self-defense, and help restrict concealed-carry permits to owners who can pass a basic test.

It would be great if the self-castrators were of the same age/economic class as male congress-critters, but I suspect that, being male, they'll identify readily enough once their own gonads have crawled up into the body politic. These guys think so highly of their dicks that they email pictures to all and sundry (Weiner), they compare them in the locker room (G H W Bush is dinky, and his son used both socks for padding), they get photographed wet and clingy and post it online (Schock)... yeah, they regard their masculinity to the exclusion of common sense. A threat to it is more REAL than religious or economic terrorism.

Either they'll restrict ownership or someone will make a killing selling bullet-proof cod-pieces. I hope they chafe until saner laws are enacted.

The second route is what popularized gun control in the first place. Black Panthers and other such groups frightened white law-makers just standing around obviously armed and assertive. Given the militarized police and too many of them on steroids, I fret that this concept would lead to civil war in the streets. There are too many oath-keeping assholes desperate for a chance to shoot someone. What worked in the sixties might not work now.

Hmmmm.... another thought. The opposite approach.

Congress-critters work within a gun-free zone of safety. THEY don't have to fret about too many guns in the hands of too many nutters. So, how about lifting those restrictions? Check people for bombs and explosives, but let them carry all the weaponry they want. We get exposed to swaggering gun-nuts while getting a hamburger or going to the hardware store, congress-critters ought to feel just as vulnerable.

    Equal protections under the laws.

I like your last idea, hauksdottir.

      Delete
    2. hauksdottir, Umpqua college is a gun free zone. Oregon passed a universal background check law thaat took effect in Aug. The reality is, Congress (and the White House) aren't really gun free zones. They are guarded by heavily armed security agents. And people who enter are screened. That is why there have been no attacks inside the Congressional Halls or inside the White House. That makes the narrative of a "gun free zone" keeping Congress safe look silly.

Anti gunners don't want armed guards in schools. They want to believe that anti gun laws will keep people safe. It wont happen that way. Every mass shooting has happened in gun free zones that aren't guarded by people with means to take out an active shooter, including the Ft Hood killings of US servicemen. They just prove that if you have to wait for local law enforcement to show up and respond, it will be too late. Laws don't protect you. They just make it possible to prosecute the violator after the fact.

If you feel that laws can protect you and your family and no one will violate them, feel free. Myself, I'm not so trusting.
