San Diego police rushed to a community north of downtown Wednesday for what they described as an active shooter inside an apartment building using a high-powered rifle.
The threat to the community prompted officials to shut down traffic on the ground and in the air as San Diego International Airport is located less than two miles away.
SDPD were called to 2445 Brant Street in the Bankers Hill area just after 9 a.m. for a domestic violence call. When they arrived, they immediately came under fire, officials said.
"They were able to use a K9 to try and clear the apartment. At some point when they were inside the apartment, rounds began to come out of a door, an interior door, nearly hitting the officers," Lt. Scott Wahl said.
So far there is no reports of deaths or injuries, and hopefully is stays that way.
Just another day of the 2nd Amendment keeping Americans safe.
(P.S. I will provide updates to this post as they become available.)
Update: There are also reports that all flights to and from the San Diego airport are being diverted or are on hold, and a local elementary school is on lock down, until this situation is resolved.
Update 2: The gunman has been taken into custody.
No fatalities, which is undoubtedly the best possible outcome for an incident like this one.
This sucks! :(

When we are all armed, even all the criminals will have guns. The situation seethes with the persuit of happiness.
ReplyDeleteYikes! That's not exactly a slum either; apartments in Bankers' Hill go for thousands a month. Just shows that guns aren't a ghetto issue, it's everywhere.
ReplyDeleteCalm down folks ...it is just a member of the local well regulated Militia practicing his marksmanship.

Ah! American exceptionalism. Isn't it beautiful. There is no other peaceful country on earth where this type of carnage happens weekly. It is shameful. If this is allowed to continue the USA will cease to exist. I'd rather leave our children and grandchildren in debt than have them wonder every time they need to leave their homes if they will come back again.

We got an "emergency text" from my daughter's college, a four hour drive. It seemed like ages, and none of the news stations had anything on them...... then we got an "oops, we were doing a drill because of what happened in California and mistakenly alarmed the parents BUT it shows our system works. WTFuckity fuck fuck fuck?????? Her phone was off, and we couldn't get in touch with her for hours. Of course we made the trip and had to see for ourselves she was alive and well.
ReplyDeleteGood thing the shooter wasn't a black man giving the police funny looks. Then they might have had no choice but to shoot to kill.
ReplyDeleteSan Diego is not L.A.
DeleteIn so many ways.
He surrendered around 2:35 pm.
ReplyDeleteThat would probably be Washington Elementary as it is Downtown.
San Diego International is unique in that the airport is almost downtown being on the bay. (It will flood when Climate Change raises the ocean.) The flight path goes right over this area. In fact the flight path on approach crosses much of San Diego from the east and the flight path on take-off crosses pricey Point Loma to the west. Residents have learned to live with the flight paths and every time moving the airport has come up it has been voted down as we know it is a commercial advantage for San Diego to have an airport so centrally located close to the downtown area.
