Yet another mass shooting. This time in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Courtesy of CBS News:

Four people are dead, including a suspected gunman, following a shooting spree in Colorado Springs on Saturday.

Lt. Catherine Buckley says officers were responding to a report of shots being fired when they spotted a suspect matching the description of the person they were trying to find. Buckley says the suspect opened fire, and police fired back.

CBS affiliate KKTV reported police were originally called to North Prospect Street at 8:45 a.m. on reports of gunshots. They found a deceased man sprawled on the side of the street, his backpack still on his back.

Multiple witnesses told KKTV the suspect went on a shooting rampage in the minutes leading up to the gun battle with police outside a Wendy's.

"I looked out my kitchen window and I saw a man in a green jacket firing an AR-15...waited a few seconds, went out my house, looked to my left and saw a man down the street, probably 50 feet. I started calling him and I called the cops," witness Matt Abshire told The Colorado Springs Gazette.

Mr. Abshire followed the suspect, reporting his location to the police and watching helplessly as he shot and killed two more victims.

Ultimately the police caught up with the suspect and he died in a hail of gunfire:

Alisha Jaynes told KKTV she was at an ATM when she saw a man with a gun walking calmly down the street.

"They yelled, 'Put the gun down,' and he turned around, and that's when they shot at him a good 20 times," she said. "There was a lot of gunfire.

Police say that there were three people shot and killed by the man, and then of course he lost his own life when he failed to respond to police commands to drop his weapon.

Just another day, and another senseless shooting, in the "greatest nation on earth."

The "greatest nation on earth" is on an increasing streak of crazy IMHO.What caused it or what to do about it, well, I don't have an answer. Apparently no one else does either.

Uh, not the "greatest nation on earth", Gryph. The United States of America is exceptional, don't you know? The Republicans keep telling us so.

I've lived in Denver for 40 years. Colorado Springs is somewhat famous, or infamous, in Colorado. It is not only home to the Air Force Academy, but it is also uber, uber-conservative on politics and social issues (Focus on the Family is headquartered there, for example.)
Reddest of the red GOP, for the most part.

It has to be one of the most Second-Amendment worshipping, blanketly armed cities in the U.S. Chock full of good guys with guns, and yet?

Maybe it's time for a SWAT team on every corner. (Privately owned and operated, of course. A whole new revenue stream for the NRA.)

While it is true and unbelievably tragic the three innocent people died, it's also true that a good guy with a cell phone prevented a bad guy with an AR-15 from killing more people.

The guy with the cell phone -- Abshire -- followed the shooter, at great risk to himself, giving the cops updates on where the guy was. Otherwise, the cops would have been chasing him all over hell and back while he killed more people.

Wow, she's a piece of work. Shilling for the NRA, even giving out the phone number and membership price.

I've visited Colorado Springs and friends. They are very, very religious and extreme right! Interesting to observe that is for sure! All I can say is thank god I live on the west coast!

Colorado Springs is home to many retired US Air Force. There is a strong military presence in the town. What happened to a good guy with a gun theory? Our retired Air Force friend who lives there is armed to the teeth.

And Army. It's a military town & wages are kept low because many retire young from the military and with their retirement income can work for a lower wage. Thus it's very hard for young people to find jobs that pay a living wage.

This is type stuff is becoming so commonplace that it gets little reaction anymore. Sad, but true!

America is a screwed up mess! Any of us can now watch someone else be killed and know what the exact routine will be. Little is done except for the fact the shooter is killed!

Guns - oh yea - we should all own one and learn how to use it because who knows what the Hell you'll run into on the streets of America!

Another member "of a well-regulated militia" gone rogue. The gun nutters will say, "Now if the cell phone guy had had a gun, two lives would have been saved." Yes, they always want to believe that it's an aberration and not the Amerigun norm whenever there's a mass shooting.

I used my cellphone in a similar fashion and was called a "Snitch", a title I'd proudly wear again and again, but no one can get me to go out of my house during an active shooter situation.

If you see something, say something. It's going on with so much frequency, the shock factor seems to have diminished.

Not to worry.... Jeb Bush just announced his new slogan, "Jeb Will Fix It". I guess if we all vote for Jeb he will take care of this problem....

As someone who already had to deal with loosing a friend in the theatre shooting, allow me a moment to voice once again just how freaking pissed off I am that nothing has been done. Greatest country on Earth my ass.

20+ 6 year olds being mowed down in school did it for me. If that didn't change things nothing will.
