Just in time for the holidays.

Courtesy of the Freedom From Religion Foundation:

The Freedom From Religion Foundation's Winter Solstice sign has just returned to the Illinois State Capitol for its seventh display.

"This sign is a reminder of the real reason for the season, the Winter Solstice," says Annie Laurie Gaylor, FFRF co-president, which is the shortest and darkest day of the year, and takes place on Dec. 22 this year. The natural holiday heralds the rebirth of the sun and the natural new year, and has been celebrated for millennia in the Northern Hemisphere with festivals of light, evergreens, feasts and gift exchanges.

"We nonbelievers don't mind sharing the season with Christians," Gaylor adds, "we just don't like the pretense that it's about a supernatural birth of a god."

An engraved sign with the same wording has been erected by the Foundation for 20 Decembers in a row at the Wisconsin State Capitol in Madison, Wis.

Should fit quite nicely next to the Christian Nativity, the Jewish Menorah, and the Kwanzaa Bendera ya Taifa

My favorite ad on TV concludes with Ron Reagan saying I'm Ron Reagan. Not afraid of going to hell.

  4. You really must stop posting things like this. It's so upsetting to believers who would have absolutely nothing to live for if they suddenly discovered there was no God.

Who could take pleasure in the Earth's beauty without a belief in God? How could love, companionship, and children possibly be appreciated without a belief in God? What possible satisfaction could one take from work, sports, and art in a world not created a by God? And what would become of hatred of other religions?

Absent God, what would be the point of living?

    1. A lot of people are finding living impossible WITH a god. It sure would be a better world without the notion of the Big Daddy in the Sky Who Does All My Thinking and Justifies Murder.

I'm pretty sure 4:17 is sarcasm.

@6:33: Yes, the sentence "what would become of hatred of other religions" is the giveaway!
But sadly, there are millions who listen to that very claptrap every Sunday in their place of worship.

What, indeed? How could life go on without membership in the granfalloon one is assigned to at birth? :-)

Ya know what is really depressing? I don't know anyone I could send that to without losing an important human connection.

Can't even publicly say I'm an atheist, for fear of retribution. So have decided 'secular humanist' is the way to go.

    1. Was it last year some guy got his Festivus pole made of beer cans displayed with all the other stuff at City Hall or the State Capitol or something?

Atheists are no different than another cult. They seek monetary donations from their growing group to spread their word. They attack others beliefs and try to convert people to their beliefs. And of course, if you don't agree with their beliefs, you are an idiot.

    1. Funny.

I've never received any solicitation to donate to Atheism.

Nor have any Atheists shown up at my front door, wearing shirts and ties or not, to try to convert me to Atheism. Or even Agnosticism.

Then again, neither do the Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims or Jews.

Only the Christians seem to be fighting each other for recruits and converts.

I love it! My place of employment only allows decorations in the break room, and by decorations, I mean any and every faith, but nothing on our desks, business clothes, key chains, handbags, earrings etc. If the customer needs a pat on the back or a hug, that's fine, but the most you can wish them is "happy holidays'.
We haven't had any protests in the over 25 years I've worked there. Our boss is a Christian with a big "C", and believes religion should be a private matter.

OT. Trump is yapping about closing the country to muslims blasted Obama and Christie. What an ass!!
