Just a reminder that the tenets of the Satanic Temple are far more instructive and moral than the Ten Commandments.

There are seven fundamental tenets.

  • One should strive to act with compassion and empathy towards all creatures in accordance with reason.
  • The struggle for justice is an ongoing and necessary pursuit that should prevail over laws and institutions.
  • One’s body is inviolable, subject to one’s own will alone.
  • The freedoms of others should be respected, including the freedom to offend. To willfully and unjustly encroach upon the freedoms of another is to forgo your own.
  • Beliefs should conform to our best scientific understanding of the world. We should take care never to distort scientific facts to fit our beliefs.
  • People are fallible. If we make a mistake, we should do our best to rectify it and resolve any harm that may have been caused.
  • Every tenet is a guiding principle designed to inspire nobility in action and thought. The spirit of compassion, wisdom, and justice should always prevail over the written or spoken word

By now I'm sure that most of you realize that the Satanic Temple really has very little to do with Satan, and actually exists mostly to troll Christians.

I actually enjoy much of their work, and I might think about joining them if I were not already dedicated to repairing the reputation of Atheists instead.

The Atheists' creed: You don't have to believe in nonsense to be a good person.

Yesterday, Maria Litman posted a piece about how Numbers 31:17-18 is Bristol's least favorite Bible verse. In all fairness, that verse is disgusting & abhorrent to any person with a conscience. It talks of killing all women who are not virgins and keeping the virgin women as sex slaves. What person would like this verse, other than a hateful misogynist?

Oh, Donald, your "Cruising" days are about thirty years behind you. Have you though of pimping your older sons? They're kind of hot.

  4. Satanism played for laughs. It doesn't stand up, because of self-described Satanic serial killers like Richard Ramirez.

Sunny modern tenets of satanism don't square with the principles set out in Anton LaVey's satanic bible, which focused on selfishness.

Crowley summed up satanism like this: Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law. Charming.

  5. I didn't know that about the Satanic Temple.

I was reading those and thinking, in what way does this have anything to do with the original concept of Satan, Hell, etc.

But it makes sense that it's to give the right wing fundies hissy fits.

Those are the tenets of probably any faith when it first started. Then they were corrupted by those who decided to twist that religion to their own agenda, control, power.

Gee, I'd say I'm becoming a Satanist, but I think people would take it the wrong way.
