President Obama places African lions on the Endangered Species List. This ones for you Cecil.

Five months after a lion named Cecil was shot and killed in Zimbabwe by a Minnesota dentist, the Obama administration has decided to place lions in Africa under the protection of the Endangered Species Act, an action that will set a higher bar for hunters who want to bring lion trophies into the United States.

Lions in central and West Africa will be listed as endangered, according to the Fish and Wildlife Service, which announced the change on Monday. Lions in southern and East Africa will be classified as threatened, with a special rule that prods countries to regulate sport hunting of lions in ways that promote conservation.

Both designations, the agency said, will result in stricter criteria for the import of live lions and lion parts, like heads, paws or skins.

Trophies from countries where lions are endangered will be “generally prohibited,” except in very limited circumstances, the agency said.

I guess Walter Palmer's careless murder of a magnificent and noble creature had at least ONE positive outcome.

Hopefully this will help stem the tide of pathetically hung man children from slaughtering these animals in order to impress their friends and try to get laid.

Stop the slaughter of the elephants and the rhinos, Mr. President, they need your help desperately. Thank you ever so much for everything you do to make this world a better place for man and precious wildlife.

In 2015, there is no need for ANYONE To be shooting animals, except for food or to control over population.

FYI Grypen, the article title should read "Endangered" not engedered.

    1. No one "needs" to hunt for food.

And there wouldn't be a population problem if the wolves and coyotes weren't being killed right and left. Nature can balance itself just find without our interference.

But there is no profit or "fun" in butting out of nature's business.

I am SO glad President Obama did this. One more reason for me to love the man.

I'd love to shoot that fucker Palmer with a bow and arrow and leave him to bleed.

I'm not usually prone to violent thoughts, but this "man" brings it out in me.

Nothing is going to help Walter Palmer get laid. Have you seen Walter?

    1. He's married. Wife is rich. What she sees in him I have no clue. Perhaps she's more unattractive than he is and he was her one and only chance. I understand she likes to kill things too. Decorates with dead things in both all her houses.

  7. That is a good thing.

HOWEVER, after the US government spent millions to reintroduce wolves to Yellowstone, the wolves have been removed from the Endangered Species List, and they are once again trophy material for all those poor ranchers who lose a cow/sheep here and there while grazing them on PUBLIC LAND.

    Kind of ironic, don'tcha think?

  9. There is a wonderful place in Tenn. The Elephants Sanctuary/Elephants.com. They put up photos and have a running commentary about the elephants in their care. Truly a great undertaking and so much fun to visit their site. I imagine it would be much fun also to visit the actual location. Hope some day to be able to do so.

Go Lions!!!! I'm beyond disgusted by trophy hunters and poachers. While he's at it, maybe put humans on the endangered species act and stop all these gun "accidents" from killing innocent children?

  11. Next up: Elephants, rhinos, tigers, leopards, exotic birds. It's a step. But we can do more.

Some asshat in Michigan just poached Bow Tie, a 12 point buck that lived around a park in the area. I suspect he was familiar with people and so showed no fear when this doofus walked up to him with a crossbow and shot him dead. Said doofus wasn't wearing proper hunting attire (bright colored vest or something?), didn't have a license, tags, didn't report it, you know, the regular poacher stuff.

So what's his punishment? $1,500 fine, loss of his cross bow and suspended from hunting for a year.

    Big phuking deal.

This is why hunters, ALL hunters, are becoming pariahs in this country. I no longer want to hear about subsistence or sport. All I can think of is Cheney's canned hunts and Palin's moose chili. There are very few places in this country where you cannot buy cheap food. There is no reason to kill a beloved community animal because you can't feed your family. (BTW the guy is not using this as an excuse. YET.)

Fuck Palmer. Fuck the NRA. Fuck them all.
