Virginia lawmaker introduces legislation that would force public schools to check a students genitalia before allowing them to use the bathroom.

Courtesy of Raw Story:

A bill filed by a Virginia lawmaker this week would require schools to be certain that children are using the restroom corresponding to their “correct anatomical sex.”

The legislation, which would prohibit transgender students from using the bathroom matching their gender, is being sponsored by Republican Del. Mark Cole.

House Bill 663 defines “anatomical sex” as “the physical condition of being male or female, which is determined by a person’s anatomy.”

“Local school boards shall develop and implement policies that require every school restroom, locker room, or shower room that is designated for use by a specific gender to solely be used by individuals whose anatomical sex matches such gender designation,” the measure states.

Civil rights advocate Tim Peacock noted that “adults would be required to inspect children’s genitals before they use the bathroom” for the legislation to be enforceable.

“This is what the conservative movement has devolved into: forcing children to allow adults to examine their genitals out of misplaced fear that transgender kids and adults might commit a hypothetical never-before-seen act of violence or sexual aggression (that would still be against the law with or without transgender protections),” Peacock wrote.

I can tell you right now that if this bill were actually to pass, and let's just assume that even Virginia is not that homophobic, that public school parents would lose their shit at the idea of adults making their children drop trou and prove their gender before taking a piss.

Not only that but schools have a strict set of guidelines they must follow while interacting with children, and looking at their genitals is most certainly on the "do not EVER do" list.

Right? At this point they might as well write a law requiring school restrooms to provide a designated area for the bullying and beat downs of transgender kids when they try to use the facilities.

You have to wonder what exactly is going on in the mind of someone who feels this issue is SO important they must write a LAW...

Indeed. What is it that causes them to spend so much time thinking about, worrying about, dwelling on, studying, researching, pondering, imagining, and oh yeah! I said researching, didn't I? Yeah, that's what I'm doing, honeybunch, research! That's why that stuff is on my computer. Yeah, that's why. Shut up. I have legislation I have to write and I have to concentrate very hard to make sure it is drawn up perfectly. I must think about every possible scenario...

The Republicans are saving the children from being molested by transgender children...by pre-molesting them?!?!

You know, reminds me of all those cops who used to patrol the Lover's Looks, Leaps and Lanes (parking/necking spots) of our youth. They'd sneak around, headlights off, then jump up to shine a flashlight in the steamed up windows to see teens in heavy petting jump apart. They obviously knew what the teens were doing, but when asked - "why?" - they'd say, to protect you kids form weirdos, of course. We knew it was b.s even then.

So when a parent comes to the school for a function with babies and preschoolers in tow, will they be fined for taking their opposite gender child into the restroom with them ?

A little OT but since you mentioned Duggar, it's being reported that his wife Anna is pregnant again, she got knocked up during a conjugal visit with him at the sex rehab facility.

Is Mr. Cole perhaps preparing to volunteer to be an inspector? Sounds like he's got problems that need psychiatric attention, or even a jail term.

"“adults would be required to inspect children’s genitals"

This is Tim Peacock's (gotta love the name) interpretation/warning, not something written in the law. It sounds a bit hyperbolic. Why couldn't they determine gender based on birth certificates?

No matter, the proposed law is ridiculous government intrusion and overreach. The bathroom paranoia is insane.

These guys are most worried about people with penises getting in to girl's bathrooms.

The only sure fire way to ensure that doesn't happen is to look for penises. People can lie on birth certificates or school registration. These things can be faked. What can't be faked is a penis naturally attached to a person's body.

The bottom line is that some responsible adult is going to have to look down the pants of some children.

    2. "Why couldn't they determine gender based on birth certificates?"
      --------------------
So all the kids would have to carry their birth certificate at all times?

And how does the Genital Inspector know that the birth certificate is genuine? Now we also need picture ID for kindergarteners to match the information on the birth certificates to the little tot standing there squirming just needing to pee?

And staff would be needed at every restroom.

There is no interpretation that can get the lipstick straight on this pig of a law.

Small government, and by small government, they mean small to fit in your pants and inspect your naughty bits.

Nefer - They could be given some kind of gender ID badge based on the BC. Even better, every child could have an implanted computer chip that unlocks the appropriate bathroom door. ;-)

Just for shits and giggles I'd suggest that you read the actual law. There is absolutely nothing in it requiring anyone to look at anyone's genitalia. It's homophobic nonsense, but Raw Story's slanted reporting is equally moronic.

meghan - birth certificates, presented when a child enters public school, identifies gender and should be sufficient.

  20. One more reason why, when people ask where I live, I quickly follow with an apologetic-sounding, "because this is where the work took us." Our choice in 1983 was Virginia or Pascagoula, MS. :O So we had an almost-elected Oliver North, George 'Macaca' Allen, attorney general Ken Cuccinelli, and greedy felon Gov. Bob McDonnell, but we missed Katrina and the BP oil spill.
